Teaching and learning contents: Learning About Language—Building up your vocabulary
Comprehensive teaching and learning objectives:
By the end of this period, the students will have been able to:
1) Use some words in the reading text to complete the text summary;
2) Find collocations related to “habit” from the previous text and make sentence with them;
3) Practise using vocabulary in context to complete the exercises in the textbook and the workbook to consolidate the words and phrases learned in the previous text.

1. Review some of the language items learned in the previous period briefly.
2. Introduce the learning objectives of this period.
Step 2 Learning About Language—Building up your vocabulary
Activity 2 Vocabulary exercises in the textbook
1. Complete the summary using the words from the box, check the answers, and then read the summary to reconstruct the text.
Answers: appropriate, tobacco, alcohol, cycle, psychology, cue, negative, reward, pill, discipline
2. Find “verb + a habit” collocations from the previous text. Then make sentences with them.
Suggested answers:
form a habit—We often form a habit without realising it.
change a habit—The expert gave us some tips on how to change bad habits.
prevent a habit—Of course, it is better to prevent a bad habit than break one!
recognise a habit—To recognise a bad habit is the first step.
examine a habit—By examining our habits closely, we can start to understand them.

Learn about the language items:
