C. Let me check my library card again to confirm my identity.

F. I’ll go to the art department to look for that book right now.

Sport has many wonderful moments, but the finish of a marathon is one of the most exciting. It is the longest and hardest race. The name “marathon” comes from a small village in Greece. A famous battle happened there in 490 B.C. When the Greeks beat the Persians, a soldier ran more than 40 kilometres from Marathon to Athens to tell everyone the good news. When the modern Olympic Games started in 1896, the organizers knew this story. Since then, the marathon has been part of the Olympics.
In ancient times, the Olympic Games were held every four years for 1000 years. They were an important part of life. In the modern Games, we try to follow the old ideas. The best sportsmen in the world come together, and at least they are called “amateurs”. An amateur is someone who does not get money from sport. But it is often hard to say who is really an amateur. Many Olympic athletes are students or teachers of sport. They spend a lot of time training. Their governments pay for their training, travel, and “pocket money” because they want them to win. Some people think this changes the Olympics. They feel the games are now like a political marathon.
21. Where does the name “marathon” come from?
A. A Greek god B. A famous athlete C. A battle in Athens D. A village in Greece
22. Why did the soldier run from Marathon to Athens in 490 B.C.?
A. To tell people the Greeks won the battle
B. To ask for more soldiers to fight
C. To run away from the Persians
D. To bring food to the people in Athens
23. How often were the ancient Olympic Games held?
A. Every 2 years B. Every 3 years C. Every 4 years D. Every 5 years
24. What is an “amateur” in sport?
A. Someone who is very good at sport
B. Someone who does not get paid for sport
C. Someone who only plays sport for fun
D. Someone who is a student or teacher
25. Why do some governments pay for their athletes’ training and travel?
A. To help them study at university
B. To help their country win in competitions
C. To make them become professional athletes
D. To save money for the Olympic Games
【答案】21.D 22.A 23.C 24.B 25.B

As people rely more and more on the Internet to store information, a question has come up: are we remembering less? If you know your computer will save the information for you, why bother to store it in your own brain? Experts are wondering whether the Internet is changing what we remember and how we remember it.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow and her research team did some experiments. They wanted to find out how the Internet is changing our memory. In the first experiment, they asked people to type 40 unimportant facts into a computer. The first group was told that the computer would save the information. The second group was told that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information much better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again later, so they did not make an effort to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people some facts to remember and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was kept in a specific computer folder. Surprisingly, people later remembered the location of the folder better than the facts themselves. When people use the Internet, they don’t remember the information itself. Instead, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory” (交互记忆).
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with bad memory because of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memory. That is to say, people are learning how to organize a lot of information so that they can get it later. This doesn’t mean we are becoming more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use our memory is changing.
26.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The Internet makes people remember less information.
B. Professor Betsy Sparrow did two important experiments.
C. The way people use memory is changing because of the Internet.
D. Transactive memory is a new idea from Sparrow.
27.Why did the second group remember the information better in the first experiment?
A. Because the information was more important to them.
B. Because they knew the computer would not save the information.
C. Because they were better at memorizing things than the first group.
D. Because the first group was distracted by the computer.
28.What surprising finding came from the second experiment?
A. People remembered the facts better than the folder location.
B. People remembered the folder location better than the facts.
C. People could not find the information on the Internet.
D. People forgot both the facts and the folder location.
29.What is “transactive memory” according to the passage?
A. The ability to remember a lot of information directly.
B. The ability to remember how to find information, not the information itself.
C. The memory that gets worse when using the Internet.
D. The memory that only computer users have.
30.What does Sparrow think about the Internet’s effect on people’s intelligence?
A. The Internet makes people more intelligent.
B. The Internet makes people less intelligent.
C. The Internet does not change people’s intelligence.
D. The Internet changes people’s intelligence in a good way.
【答案】26.C 27. B 28. B 29. B 30. C
文章依据:“Experts are wondering whether the Internet is changing what we remember and how we remember it.” “...there is no doubt that the way we use our memory is changing.”
文章依据:“The second group was told that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information much better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again later, so they did not make an effort to remember it.”
第二段明确提到 “Surprisingly, people later remembered the location of the folder better than the facts themselves.”,这是实验的意外发现。 文章依据:“Surprisingly, people later remembered the location of the folder better than the facts themselves.”
文中对 “transactive memory” 的解释是 “When people use the Internet, they don’t remember the information itself. Instead, they remember how to find it.”,也就是记住获取信息的方法,而不是信息本身。 文章依据:“When people use the Internet, they don’t remember the information itself. Instead, they remember how to find it. This is called ‘transactive memory’.”
根据最后一段,Sparrow 认为 “This doesn’t mean we are becoming more or less intelligent”,也就是互联网并没有改变人们的智力水平。 文章依据:“This doesn’t mean we are becoming more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use our memory is changing.”
D
Ralph Emerson once said that the purpose of life is not just to be happy, but to be useful and to make a difference. Although we all know this, it's not always easy to live by these words.
Most people prefer a life that feels good in the moment. They ignore their responsibilities to the world. This narrow way of living may bring short-term comfort, but it often leads to long-term pain and suffering. A life based on comfort and luxury can be empty. Instead, we should choose to live a life that is full of meaning, based on our principles, ideals, and relationships with others.
So, what does it mean to live a good life? A good life is a process, not a final state we reach one day. It's a destination we keep moving toward. We need to start by serving others without expecting anything in return. This is because true happiness comes from within, not from what others give us. More importantly, we must know ourselves deeply. Only when we look honestly at our own lives can we see our abilities, accept our limitations, and then work to make the world a better place.
The first step to a good life is having a loving heart. When we only think about ourselves, life can feel like a heavy burden, and we might get tired of it quickly. But when we do something for others, we don't just enjoy the work—we do it without feeling like it's a chore.
However, love alone isn't enough to live a good life. Sometimes, even with good intentions, our actions can lead to bad results. To make a real difference, we need to combine our love with knowledge. Those who want to do good must also learn to understand the world around them. Love is like the engine in a car, which gives it the power to move. Knowledge is the steering wheel, which controls the direction. If the engine is powerful but the steering wheel doesn't work, the car will be dangerous. Only with a loving heart and the right knowledge can we live a good life.
With love and knowledge, we try our best to create a better world by being kind to others. When we see the good we've done in the world, we give our lives meaning, and we can earn lasting joy and happiness.
31.According to the passage, what do most people tend to do?
A. Live a life full of meaning and ideals.
B. Prioritize short-term comfort and ignore long-term consequences.
C. Serve others selflessly without expecting rewards.
D. Focus on self-improvement and personal growth.
32.What does the author compare love to in the passage?
A. The steering wheel of a car. B. The engine of a car.
C. The driver of a car. D. The road a car travels on.
33.Why is love alone insufficient to live a good life?
A. Because love is not as important as knowledge.
B. Because good intentions can sometimes lead to bad results without proper knowledge.
C. Because people are naturally selfish and need knowledge to control themselves.
D. Because knowledge can bring more immediate happiness than love.
34.According to the passage, where does true happiness come from?
A. From the praise and rewards we receive from others.
B. From the comfort and luxury we enjoy in life.
C. From within ourselves when we live a meaningful life.
D. From the short-term pleasures we experience daily.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The purpose of life is to pursue happiness at all costs.
B. A good life is a process that requires both love and knowledge to serve others.
C. Most people are able to live a meaningful life easily.
D. Knowledge is more important than love in creating a better world.
文章第二段提到 “Most people prefer to live a life that makes themselves comfortable, ignoring their responsibilities for the world. This narrow perception of a good life may provide short-term benefits, but is sure to lead to long-term harm and suffering.”
32.文章倒数第二段明确指出 “If love is the engine of a car, knowledge is the steering wheel which directs it.”
33.文章倒数第二段提到 “However, love alone is insufficient to lead a good life. Love sometimes blinds us to reality. Consequently, our good intentions may not lead to good results.”
34.文章第三段提到 “More expectation in return because their happiness is the very source of our own happiness. More importantly, we must know ourselves inside out. Only when we examine ourselves deeply can we discover our abilities and recognize our limitations, and then work accordingly to create a better world.” 以及最后一段 “...we give meaning to our life and earn lasting joy and happiness.”
第三段 “A good life is a process, not a state of being; a direction, not a destination.” 和最后一段 “With love and knowledge, we go all out to create a better world by doing good to others.”

空格前有定冠词 the,后有范围 so far this winter(今年冬天迄今为止),表示 “最冷的”,故用 coldest。
动词 suggest 后的宾语从句用 (should) + 动词原形;clothes 与 wear 为被动关系,故填 (should) be worn。
句型 It is unknown whether…
