(广州三模)Group discussions are a regular part of our study life. Whether in a classroom during a literature class or in a study group preparing for a science project, we often find ourselves engaged in these group discussions. They are everywhere during our learning journey, yet, not everyone knows how to make the most of them.
Group discussions serve as a wonderful way for us to increase our knowledge. When we sit together to talk about a subject, we get to hear different ideas that we might not have thought of on our own. For example, during a history discussion, classmates might share unique stories about historical events, which can greatly enrich our understanding. Moreover, they help us improve our social skills. We learn how to communicate, work together, and build relationships with our classmates.
However, group discussions are not without their challenges. One common problem is that some students talk for a long time, not giving others a chance to speak. As a result, many students, especially the shy ones, may feel left out of the discussion. Another problem is that some students might not listen carefully to others. They are too busy thinking about what they want to say next, which leads to misunderstandings. Also, sometimes the group ends up talking about something completely unrelated to the topic.
To solve these problems, first, you should set clear rules at the start of the discussion. Decide how long each person can talk and make sure that everyone gets a turn. This will stop a few students from taking over the conversation and encourage more people to take part in the discussion. For example, you could set a time limit of two minutes for each person's comment.
Second, practise active listening. When someone is speaking, look at him or her and nod to show you're following. Taking notes can also help. By listening actively, you show respect for others, and you can also get more out of what they're saying, which can make your own ideas better.
Third, your group can choose a “monitor”—someone who watches the time and discussion. He or she can clearly write the main topic in a place where everyone can see it. If the group starts going off topic, the monitor should be brave enough to stop the conversation gently. For example, the monitor can say, “Let's get back to our main topic, which is…”

Teamwork Makes a Difference
(沈阳二模)During the summer vacation, I took part in a summer camp in Chengdu.
There I made many friends and had some extraordinary(非凡的)experiences. I saw lovely pandas, visited some museums, and had hot pot. However, the most impressive part for me was the teamwork.
One day, after watching the pandas, making differently shaped food for them to eat, and cutting bamboo leaves, the teacher asked us to create a mind map of what we had learned and experienced over those days. I worked on it with my three new friends. We came up with a lot of different ideas and we decided to work together. I was in charge of the writing part. We finished it as quickly as possible. When the four of us shared it with others, I felt proud.
It can be hard to do a task alone. But in some ways, teamwork is even more challenging. It needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. But the fruit of teamwork can be very sweet!
1.Did the author have hot pot?
____
2.When did the teacher ask the author to create a mind map?
_____________________________________________________________________
3.How did the author feel when the author's team shared the mind map?
______________________
4.According to the last paragraph, teamwork needs us to communicate well, set clear goals, play our own roles, and trust and respect each other. Well, which do you think is the most important? Why? Write 30 words or more.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I think communication is the most important. Without clear communication, team members may misunderstand goals, roles, or ideas, leading to conflicts and inefficiency. Effective communication ensures everyone works cohesively toward shared objectives.(开放性试题,答案不唯一)
