Each afternoon, the two girls sat side by side, diving into math together. Zoe never laughed at Lena’s slow progress or silly questions. Instead, she explained each problem patiently, drawing pictures to make difficult concepts easier to understand. When Lena got stuck, Zoe encouraged her to try again, breaking down steps until she got it right. Lena also worked hard, taking detailed notes and practicing extra problems every night. Gradually, the “foreign language” of math became familiar, and she even started to feel a little excited when solving a tough question. Jax’s sneers faded, replaced by his surprised glances at Lena’s growing confidence. The results of the final math exam came out. Lena’s hands shook as she picked up her paper, and a bright smile spread across her face when she saw a solid “B”. Tears of joy welled in her eyes — she had finally overcome her fear of math. She ran to thank Zoe, who hugged her happily, and then found Mr. Carter to share the good news. He patted her shoulder proudly, saying her hard work had paid off. Lena realized that with kindness, encouragement and perseverance, no difficulty was insurmountable. Who won the race? A deal school yesterday? B I first encountered the classics in university when I was pursuing a degree in English literature. But combining a lack of life experience with exams, deadlines and a desire for good grades, I didn’t get the chance to sit with them, take them apart and see how they really work. Some 40 years later, I became an editor. A colleague suggested I read some classics and break them down into simple parts. I was interested. We made a list and I chose to reread many books I had once loved. I was curious to see how they would land decades later. Would they still matter? Could my tech-broken attention handle a long novel like Middlemarch? Reading Middlemarch when you’re 19 is very different from reading it when you’re 60. So much of Eliot’s work on marriage, relationships, and expectations went unnoticed by my younger self. And so much of it is laugh-out-loud funny. The attention she pays to even secondary characters and the way she pairs people together who are surely to have intense interactions are masterful. I was so swept-away that I texted a friend who had also read Middlemarch in university: “You have to read it again. You won’t believe how good it is.” And how incredibly relevant, even though it was published in 1871. Maybe life has changed since then, but human nature hasn’t. That’s why rereading classics matters. These books have stood the test of time because their authors understood something about humanity that still touches us and makes us question our motives and choices. In a practical, byte-sized world, reading them helps save what is in danger of being lost: the enjoyment of mastery in language, of characters so alive we might imagine them walking into our living room and of the ability to stand in another person’s shoes and feel what they feel. 24.The author’s classics reading experience in university can be described as ________. A.shallow B.enjoyable C.complex D.rewarding 25.Why did the author reread the classics? A.To recall their plots and characters. B.To appreciate writers’ literary skills. C.To explore their appeal across decades. D.To prove her ability to read long novels. 26.What can be inferred about Middlemarch? A.It confuses young readers a lot. B.It lacks amusing content. C.It highlights secondary characters. D.It continues to affect life today. 27.What does the author’s experience show? A.It is never too late to learn. B.Like wine, books improve with age. C.A little learning is a dangerous thing. D.The more you know, the less you understand. C Who among us hasn’t weighed up the value of attending an event that required a long commute (通勤), or found themselves in a bad mood due to being stuck in traffic? But while it’s obvious that some activities will bring us joy and others only frustration, translating this understanding into data that can help guide policy decisions has historically proved difficult. It’s what Dr. Christian Krekel and Dr. George MacKerron have been exploring. They propose a new method for estimating the Value of Time (VOT) and calculate (计算), for the first time, VOTs for a wide range of common activities such as walking, commuting and socialising. Through an app called Mappiness, they can ask people about their happiness randomly throughout the day and record how they are actually feeling in that moment while doing something or being somewhere. With data from over 30,000 people around the UK, the researchers were able to identify how people felt when carrying out 42 daily activities and calculate a monetary (货币的) value for each activity. Interestingly, “waiting or queuing” was found to have a strong and significant negative impact on happiness, ranking as the third least enjoyable activity. The VOT shows that spending 60 minutes waiting is found to be worth £12.20 per hour; commuting £8.40 per hour; and waiting during commuting, a huge £17.20 per hour. These high costs suggest that respondents would be better off spending their time doing something else. Or, as Dr. Krekel says, “Someone who is waiting for 60 minutes would need to be paid £12.20 to achieve the same level of happiness if they were not waiting.” This new method of calculating VOT allows researchers to measure the benefits of funding time-saving facilities, helping policymakers to make informed decisions over where best to spend money. By showing how impactful waiting and commuting are on the population, the research makes a strong case for funding projects that would reduce the time people spend doing these activities and promote the wellbeing of all who stand to benefit. 28.Why does the author mention two situations in paragraph 1? A.To present a fact. B.To introduce the topic. C.To explain the issue. D.To compare the differences. 29.The researchers estimated the VOTs through ________. A.random surveys B.calculated case studies C.on-site observations D.face-to-face interviews 30.Which of the following might have the highest VOT according to the research? A.Commuting to school on a bus for thirty minutes. B.Waiting for a coffee for nearly one hour at a café. C.Spending two hours shopping with a friend at a mall. D.Being stuck in traffic for an hour on the way to work. 31.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? A.The appeal for future studies. B.The challenges of the project. C.The application of the research. D.The improvement of the method. D Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) set an ambitious goal in 2013 — to cut global physical inactivity by 10% by 2025 — the world has gone the other way. Recent data shows a worrying rise in people living inactive lives: nearly one-third of adults and a shocking 81% of teens don’t get enough exercise as recommended. It is clear that the target has not only been missed — the situation is worsening. For decades, public health messaging has consistently promoted the “exercise as medicine” concept, emphasizing its role in preventing serious diseases. “While scientifically accurate, this approach has proven insufficient in motivating long- term behavioral change,” said Benjamin Rigby, a public health researcher. He further explained, “This narrow focus ignores the emotional reasons that truly drive people to move — whether it’s the joy of play, the warmth of human connection, or the satisfaction of personal achievement.” Evidence from 123 studies is in line with his perspective, showing that messages highlighting immediate benefits — such as enjoyment, increased energy, and social interaction — prove more effective than health warnings. A great example is the popular game Pokémon GO: it made players walk thousands of extra steps every day. This shows clearly that fun and interest — not fear of getting sick — are better at getting people moving. As we look toward the next global health target in 2030, experts suggest it’s time to fundamentally rethink our approach. We must stop treating physical activity as a bitter pill and start presenting it as an invitation to joy, human connection, and personal achievement. By speaking to the heart rather than just to health concerns, we may finally inspire more people to embrace (欣然接受) active lifestyles. 32.What do we know about the WHO’s 2013 goal? A.It was successfully achieved ahead of schedule. B.It failed to bring about the desired improvement. C.It aimed to increase physical activity among teenagers. D.It failed to fully consider the needs of different age groups. 33.What does Benjamin Rigby think of the “exercise is medicine” approach? A.It is scientifically sound but has limited effects. B.It successfully addresses people’s health concerns. C.It fails to provide clear guidance for long- term exercise. D.It places too much emphasis on emotional factors. 34.Why does the author mention Pokémon GO!? A.To show the popularity of movement-based video games. B.To stress the role of technology in promoting exercise. C.To prove the advantage of enjoyment over health concerns. D.To describe the role of digital tools in encouraging exercise. 35.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Promoting Exercise as Medicine. B.Finding Emotion in Motion. C.Exploring Science behind Physical Activity. D.Engaging Teenagers in Outdoor Activity. A well-maintained, clean house prevents illnesses and allergies (过敏) and leads to living a healthier life with your family. 36 Therefore, it is a big issue how to maintain house cleanness. In her first math class, Mr. Carter wrote a series of expressions on the blackboard. While most of her classmates nodded and took notes, Lena felt as if she were listening to a “foreign language”. The symbols “x” and “y” danced before her eyes, and she couldn’t follow the steps Mr. Carter explained. The confusion only grew when she sat down to do her homework. For two hours she remained at her desk, staring at the textbook and the blank pages of her notebook. Every problem seemed unsolvable. She read the same question at least ten times, yet she still couldn’t work it out. Upset and ashamed, she never felt so stuck in a subject. Weeks passed, and Lena’s anxiety about math got worse. She was afraid to raise her hand in class, worried that her questions would sound stupid. One day, Mr. Carter randomly called on her to answer a question. Lena stood up, her face burning with embarrassment for she was totally clueless about the answer. “Even a primary student knows that!” a boy named Jax sneered (嘲讽) loudly. Lena bit her lip and sank back into her seat with her head hanging low. Soon the first math exam took place. It came as no surprise that Lena got a bright red “D” on her paper. Tears welled in her eyes as she balled up the paper and stuffed it into her bag. Seeing this, Mr. Carter asked Lena to stay after class. Instead of criticizing her, he said gently, “I notice you’ve been struggling, Lena. Math can be tough at first. Like learning to play a musical instrument, it requires the right method and consistent practice.” He told Lena that he had talked to Zoe, the top math student in the class, who agreed to help her. The next day, Mr. Carter rearranged the seats, and Zoe became Lena’s new deskmate. Each afternoon, the two girls sat side by side, diving into math together. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The results of the final math exam came out. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 / 15 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年高二英语下学期第一次月考卷(译林版) (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 全解全析 考生注意: 1. 1.Who won the race yesterday? C.A little learning is a dangerous thing. D.The more you know, the less you understand. 根据第一段中“But combining a lack of life experience with exams, deadlines and a desire for good grades, I didn’t get the chance to sit with them, take them apart and see how they really work. (但由于缺乏生活经验,加上考试、截止日期和渴望好成绩,我没有机会坐下来细细品味它们,剖析它们,看看它们到底是如何运作的)”可知,作者大学时的经典阅读只是为了应付考试和取得好成绩,没有深入理解,因此是肤浅的。故选A项。 25. 根据第二段中“I was curious to see how they would land decades later. Would they still matter? (我很好奇几十年后再读它们会是什么感受。它们还会重要吗?)”可知,作者重读经典是为了探究它们在几十年后的吸引力是否依然存在。故选C项。 26.推理判断题。根据第三段中“And how incredibly relevant, even though it was published in 1871. 故B项“Like wine, books improve with age. (如同美酒,书籍也随着岁月而醇厚)”能说明作者经历的意义。故选B项。 C Who among us hasn’t weighed up the value of attending an event that required a long commute (通勤), or found themselves in a bad mood due to being stuck in traffic? 根据第一段“Who among us hasn’t weighed up the value of attending an event that required a long commute (通勤), or found themselves in a bad mood due to being stuck in traffic? But while it’s obvious that some activities will bring us joy and others only frustration, translating this understanding into data that can help guide policy decisions has historically proved difficult. 根据第二段中“Through an app called Mappiness, they can ask people about their happiness randomly throughout the day and record how they are actually feeling in that moment while doing something or being somewhere. (通过一款名为Mappiness的应用程序,他们可以在一天中随机询问人们的快乐程度,并记录下他们在做某事或在某处时那一刻的真实感受)”可知,研究人员通过随机调查估算了时间价值。故选A项。 30. 根据第三段中“The VOT shows that spending 60 minutes waiting is found to be worth £12.20 per hour; commuting £8.40 per hour; and waiting during commuting, a huge £17.20 per hour. (VOT显示,花60分钟等待每小时价值12.20英镑;通勤每小时8.40英镑;在通勤途中等待,每小时17.20英镑)”可知,D项“在上班路上堵车一小时”属于通勤期间的等待,其时间价值最高。故选D项。 31.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“This new method of calculating VOT allows researchers to measure the benefits of funding time-saving facilities, helping policymakers to make informed decisions over where best to spend money. By showing how impactful waiting and commuting are on the population, the research makes a strong case for funding projects that would reduce the time people spend doing these activities and promote the wellbeing of all who stand to benefit. (这种计算VOT的新方法使研究人员能够衡量为节省时间的设施提供资金的好处,帮助决策者做出明智的决定,决定把钱花在哪里最好。通过展示等待和通勤对人们的影响,这项研究为资助一些项目提供了强有力的理由,这些项目将减少人们花在这些活动上的时间,并促进所有受益人群的福祉)”可知,本段围绕该研究在实际决策和项目资金支持方面的应用展开,介绍了研究成果在现实中的用途。故选C项。 D Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) set an ambitious goal in 2013 — to cut global physical inactivity by 10% by 2025 — the world has gone the other way. 根据第一段中的“Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) set an ambitious goal in 2013 — to cut global physical inactivity by 10% by 2025 — the world has gone the other way. He further explained, “This narrow focus ignores the emotional reasons that truly drive people to move — whether it’s the joy of play, the warmth of human connection, or the satisfaction of personal achievement.”(“虽然从科学角度来看是准确的,但这种方法在激励长期行为改变方面已被证明是不够的,”公共卫生研究员本杰明·里格比说。他进一步解释说,“这种狭隘的关注点忽略了真正促使人们运动的情感原因——无论是玩耍的乐趣、人际交往的温暖,还是个人成就的满足感。”)”可知,本杰明·里格比认为“运动即良药”的方法在科学上是合理的,但效果有限,故选A项。 34.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“A great example is the popular game Pokémon GO: it made players walk thousands of extra steps every day. This shows clearly that fun and interest — not fear of getting sick — are better at getting people moving.(一个很好的例子是流行游戏《精灵宝可梦GO》:它让玩家每天多走数千步。这清楚地表明,乐趣和兴趣——而不是对生病的恐惧——更能促使人们运动。)”可知,作者提到《精灵宝可梦GO》是为了证明乐趣相较于对健康的担忧更具优势,故选C项。 35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“We must stop treating physical activity as a bitter pill and start presenting it as an invitation to joy, human connection, and personal achievement. By speaking to the heart rather than just to health concerns, we may finally inspire more people to embrace A well-maintained, clean house prevents illnesses and allergies (过敏) and leads to living a healthier life with your family. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The results of the final math exam came out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】     Each afternoon, the two girls sat side by side, diving into math together. 解释:explain/clarify ②. 克服:overcome/conquer ③. 理解:understand/comprehend 情感类 ①. 自信:confidence/assurance ②. 喜悦:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1]. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The results of the final math exam came out. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试题 第11页(共12页) 试题 第12页(共12页) 试题 第9页(共12页) 试题 第10页(共12页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
