Dear Zhang Li,
You asked me how I learned English. I’m glad to share my story of English learning.
I started learning English when I was around 10. Every day, my teacher asked us to remember new words by writing them down ten times. I didn’t like English vocabulary or grammar. And I was quite afraid of communicating with others or asking questions in English. Then one day, my parents bought me a computer. With the computer, I could learn anything I wanted by myself.
I began to watch English shows on it. I still remember the first show I watched was Hannah Montana. The show was funny. I picked up a number of new words from the show. It was also at that time that I happened to fall in love with the language. I downloaded (下载) a lot of English songs and enjoyed them every day. I talked with people from all over the world. I made a lot of foreign friends as well.
Since then, my English has improved a lot. My journey of learning English is not always easy and I still have a long way to go. But I don’t give it up. If you are struggling (挣扎) with learning English, then change the way you treat it! Watch movies and laugh loudly; read books and think carefully; play games and relax. Maybe you will find a new world!
Yours,
Lily

Many students think that learning just means reading books again and again. However, effective (有效的) learning is not only about working hard but also about using the right ways.
Firstly, previewing (预习) a lesson before class is very useful. It helps you understand the main idea and find out what you might find difficult. When you preview, you are not trying to learn everything. Just spend about ten minutes looking through the new lesson. This small step can make a big difference in class.
Secondly, don’t just read your textbooks passively. Try to be an active learner. This means you should ask yourself questions while you study. You can also take notes in your own words or draw mind maps to connect ideas. Studies show that when you actively use knowledge, you remember it much longer. For example, explaining a science idea to a friend is a great way to check if you really understand it yourself.
Finally, review (复习) what you have learned to store information in your memory. A good way is to review your notes after class and then again a few days later. This is more effective than making all your studying into one long session (一段时间) before an exam.
So, don’t forget: Success comes from working hard little by little and finding your own way. When you discover how you learn best, you will become a great learner!
1.What is the main purpose (目的) of previewing a lesson?
A.To finish all the exercises before the class.

B.Focusing on the difficult parts during class.

4.What is the best title for the text?

If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages, this new way may help. On his blog (博客), Dr. Ludke wrote, “A listen-and-repeat singing way can help to learn foreign languages and open the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington D.C. likes using songs in teaching Chinese. She said “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids, we usually use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics. Not only does it work, but it is fun for children. Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better.”
Our brain likes music in learning languages, especially for remembering. If you are still having problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

Chemistry is usually thought to be more difficult than other subjects, at least for beginners. There are some reasons for this idea. For one thing, chemistry has a very specialized vocabulary. At first, studying chemistry is like learning a new language. Also, some concepts (概念) of chemistry are hard to understand. However, with hard work and careful study, you can finish this subject successfully—and even enjoy it. Here are some suggestions to help you develop good study habits and better understand the topics in the book.
Firstly, attend classes on time. Listen to your teacher and take careful notes in class. If possible, always review the topics you learn in class, and review your notes on the same day.
Secondly, think carefully whether you really understand the meaning of a term (术语) or the use of an equation (公式). A good way to test your understanding is to explain a concept to a classmate or someone else.
Thirdly, pay attention to things that have something to do with chemistry in life. Watch or do experiments in class carefully.
Fourthly, ask questions often and do not be afraid to ask your teacher or classmates for help. You will find that chemistry is much more than numbers, formulas (分子式) and equations. It’s often used in daily life just like math and physics. Once you fall in love with it, you’ll get lots of fun.

4.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.How students study chemistry.
B.Why chemistry is hard for beginners.
C.The importance of chemistry and physics.
D.Differences between chemistry and physics.
“Which fruit do you want to buy?” “This one costs 12 yuan for half a kilo.”
A woman from Chengdu who speaks English well while selling fruits became famous in a video. She talks easily with a foreigner and gets praised for her good English. Some people wonder if selling fruits now needs good English.

Her way was simple: using dictionaries to remember words. Talking with foreigners helped. If she didn’t understand a word, she guessed, then looked it up and remembered it. She tried using new words with other foreigners. Her English and vocabulary got larger.
“I’m brave. I’m not scared of mistakes or being laughed at. My spoken English improved fast. Sometimes foreigners correct me, and I fix it. ” She likes English now. She talks to foreigners whenever she can. If they buy fruits, great. If not, she still practices English and feels happy.

1.If you had a chemistry class this morning, when should you review your notes?
A.This evening. B.Tomorrow. C.This weekend. D.Next week.

“I’m brave. I’m not scared of mistakes or being laughed at. My spoken English improved fast. Sometimes foreigners correct me, and I fix it. ” She likes English now. She talks to foreigners whenever she can. If they buy fruits, great. If not, she still practices English and feels happy.
