And what about police officers? They protect our families, our homes and important things. The police have helped so many families this past year, especially saving people and pets and protecting our houses and other things after the heavy rain.
Think about all the other service workers in this community. There are cleaners to collect rubbish and keep our community sanitary. We have road workers and they put up and repair traffic signs and fix holes in the streets to protect not just us, but our cars! And what would this community be without the teachers in our school and the doctors and nurses in our community hospitals?
Think again about what we eat every day and what we wear every day. We cannot produce (生产) them, but we use them all the time. These tireless workers keep our community running. 3.Repair Group: Mr. Carter, who works as a mechanic, will fix broken bicycles for free at the community center.
I’ve already invited my classmate Tom to join. He smiled and said, “I’ll bring extra gloves!” Our neighborhood committee will provide tools and snacks.

重难语篇练习
A good living environment is important for everyone. It includes clean air, safe streets, and comfortable homes. But what makes a place truly special is not just the buildings or parks—it’s the people and how they care for each other. People work hard to keep their living environment clean and beautiful. They sweep the floors, take out the trash, and plant flowers in their neighbourhoods. The clean living environment makes people feel happy and healthy.
In a friendly neighbourhood, people know their neighbours. They say hello, share food, and help when someone is in need. For example, if an old person has trouble carrying things, a younger neighbour might offer to help. If a family is new to the area, others might welcome them with smiles and small gifts. These kind actions make a warm and happy atmosphere (氛围).
Communities also work together to settle problems. They might clean the park, plant trees, or organize events like festivals or sports games. By doing these things, people build trust and friendship. They learn that helping others makes their own lives better, too.
A loving community is like a big family. When people respect and help each other, everyone feels safe and happy. No matter where we live—in a big city or a small village—kindness can make our environment a better place. So a beautiful home is not just about the house we live in, but also about the love and help we share with those around us.
1.According to the passage, what makes a living environment truly special?
A.Expensive buildings and big parks. B.Clean air and safe streets.
C.The people and how they care for each other. D.Modern shopping centers and restaurants.
2.What do people in a friendly neighbourhood usually do?
A.They avoid talking to their neighbors. B.They help each other and share kindness.

A.Fix. B.Cause. C.Add. D.Produce.
4.What is the best title for the passage?
A.How to Keep the Environment Clean B.The Importance of a Loving Environment
C.Building Beautiful Houses in Communities D.The Best Ways to Make Friends with Neighbors
Ariel Files, a teacher from the US, brings the Kindness Rocks Project to her community (社区). People paint hopeful messages or cheerful pictures on rocks, and then hide them for others to find. What happens when someone finds a kindness rock? Files says, “Keep it if you really love it. Or, hide it again to let somebody else find it.”
Files often hides these special rocks in public places like park benches (长凳) and library seats. “Seeing people’s surprised smiles when they find a rock makes it all worthwhile,” she says with joy.
Files thinks even the simplest designs can make a difference. She encourages everyone to join. “You don’t have to be a big artist,” Files adds. “Many people think they can’t do this because they’re not good at painting. But I believe anyone can make something with special meaning. If you want to get better, just keep trying!”
Several months ago, Files organised rock-painting activities in the city centre, offering rocks, paints and brushes for free. Many people came to paint their own rocks. After decorating (装饰) their rocks, some chose to hide them. Others gave their rocks to Files. Files would add them to a special community project.
The project is the growing “rock snake” in the local garden. Files painted a large green rock for the snake’s head. The snake will grow as more people add their painted rocks.“ Everyone is welcome to take part,” Files says. “Working together like this truly brings our community closer.”

A Special Weekend in Our Neighborhood
Living in Green Garden Neighborhood has always been wonderful. My neighbors are kind and helpful. Next Saturday, we’re going to do something special together to make our community even better.
Last week, Mrs. Wilson, our 70-year-old neighbor, fell while walking her dog. Many neighbors immediately volunteered to help. Some drove her to the hospital, others looked after her dog, and a few brought her meals. This event made me realize how important it is to care for each other.
Now, we’re planning a “Neighbor Help Day” this weekend. Here’s what we’ll do:
1.Teenagers’ Team: My friends and I will clean the small park near Block 3. We’ll collect rubbish and water the plants.
2.Shopping Helpers: Five adults will drive elderly neighbors to the supermarket. They’ll return before noon.
3.Repair Group: Mr. Carter, who works as a mechanic, will fix broken bicycles for free at the community center.
I’ve already invited my classmate Tom to join. He smiled and said, “I’ll bring extra gloves!” Our neighborhood committee will provide tools and snacks.
In the future, we plan to organize such events every season. Many neighbors say they’ll volunteer again because helping others makes everyone happy. As for me, I’m going to design colorful posters tonight to remind more people about this activity.
