【回忆温故】
用合适的表达替换句中的引导词。

【观察知新】 观察下面的句子,黑体部分能用when,where,why替换吗?尝试说明理由。
1.The topic to which I am referring is very controversial.
2.The mountain of which the top is covered in snow is very beautiful.
3.The village in front of which extends a highway is very beautiful.
4.I met a friend with whom I went to school.
5.The method by which they solved the problem was quite creative.
不能。因为when在引导的定语从句中仅表示“在……期间/时刻”,where则表示“在……地方”,why表示“由于该原因”,而上面句子中的“介词+which/whom”所表达的意义和when,where,why差异较大,无法替代。
◎精讲语法
一、“介词+关系代词”中关系代词的确定
在部分定语从句中,当关系代词作介词的宾语时,可将介词提到关系代词之前,构成“介词+关系代词”引导定语从句的结构,此时关系代词用whom指人,用which指物;不能使用who或者that。
The conditions under which the experiment was conducted were quite challenging.
实验进行的条件非常具有挑战性。
This is the project for/on which we have been working hard.
这是我们一直为之努力的项目。
She is the student to whom the teacher spoke.
她就是老师和她说过话的那个学生。
二、“介词+关系代词”中介词的确定
1.根据定语从句修饰的先行词的习惯搭配来确定介词。
This is the time during which we need to focus on our project.
这是我们需要集中精力在项目上的时期。(during the time表示“在这段时间内”)

Do you still remember the day on which we met for the first time?你还记得我们第一次见面的那一天吗?(on the day表示在具体的一天)
2.根据定语从句中的动词或者某些短语的习惯搭配来确定介词。
He is the person to whom I owe my success.
我的成功归功于他。(owe...to...)
The city from which she comes is known for its ancient ruins.
她来自的那座城市以其古老的遗迹而闻名。(come from)
3.如果先行词或者从句动词有多个介词搭配时,要根据上下文表达的具体意思来确定介词。
This is the pilot with whom my brother has worked for ten years.
这就是和我弟弟一起工作了十年的那位飞行员。(work可用搭配for,with,on,in,at等介词,但此处表示“和某人一起工作”,只能用with。)
4.有时为了表达更为明确具体的意义,可用“含介词的短语+which/whom”的结构,如both of whom,in front of which等等。
I invited 50 people to the party,most of whom arrived before 8 pm.
我邀请了50个人来参加聚会,其中大多数人在晚上8点之前就到了。
The company has two main branches,both of which are located in different countries.
这家公司有两个主要分支机构,两者都位于不同的国家。
三、使用“介词+关系代词”的特别情况
1.定语从句中的谓语动词是不可拆分的固定动词短语时,其介词一般不提至关系代词前,如deal with,get through,hear from,listen to,look after,look at,send for,see to等。
The project,which she saw to personally,was completed on time.
她亲自负责的项目按时完成了。
The friend,whom she rarely hears from,surprised her with a phone call yesterday.
她很少收到其消息的那位朋友昨天突然给她打了个电话,让她惊喜不已。
2.关系副词when,where,why等引导定语从句时,一般可用“介词in/on/at/for+which”替代,但反之不一定可以,而且“其他介词或者介词短语+which/whom”也不能用关系副词替换。
The reason for which(=why) he refused the invitation is not clear.
他拒绝这个邀请的理由还不清楚。
Great changes have taken place in the city in which(=where) I was born.
我出生的那个城市已经发生了巨大的变化。
The meeting about which we had a heated discussion was finally canceled.
我们激烈讨论过的那次会议最终被取消了。(不能用关系副词替代)
3.the way后接定语从句时关系词的选择
the way(方式,方法)作先行词,后接定语从句时,若关系词在从句中作状语,则用in which或that,关系词也可省略;若关系词在从句中作主语、宾语等,关系词用which/that,且关系词在从句中作宾语时也可省略。
I like the way (that/in which) you handle difficult situations.
我喜欢你处理困难情况的方式。
She followed the way (that/which) he showed her.
她按照他指示的方式去做。

【巧学活用】
根据提示完成句子。
1.The way (that/in which) he treats children (他对待孩子们的方式;treat)is very good.
2.Is this the car for which you paid a high price (花高价买的;pay)?
3.She has two children,both of whom dream of being doctors (两人都梦想当医生;dream).
4.The book on which he based his research (他赖以进行研究的;base...on)is very famous.
5.The two things about/of which he was not sure (他不确定的;sure)were the grammar and some of the idioms.
6.The colleague,whom I often hear from (我经常从其那里得到消息的那位同事;hear from),always shares the latest updates about the project.
