二.阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Do you know what people used to count numbers in the old days? In China they used something called the abacus or “Suanpan”! It looks like a wooden frame (木制框架) with beads (珠子) and has over 2600 years of history!
An abacus has two groups of beads. Each bead in the top group (上组) counts as five, and each bead in the bottom group (下组) counts as one. For example, if you move one top bead and one bottom bead, the total is six.
In the old days in China, people used the abacus everywhere, even for big, important maths problems. But now, not many people use it. Some banks and shops still have them, but most people use calculators or computers. Even though it’s not used as much, the abacus is still special. It’s a symbol of wisdom (智慧). In 2008, China put it on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List (国家非物质文化遗产名录). Then, five years later, the world took notice (注意到) too—it was put on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Today, many people still believe using the abacus can help kids get smarter, so they teach kids to use it. The abacus is a special part of history that shows how smart and creative Chinese people were.
