The Person I Admire Most
When it comes to the person I admire most, the first
person appearing in my brain is my uncle.
My uncle,who is a doctor,is a middle-aged man
wearing a pair of glasses. Here are some reasons why I
admire him most.
To begin with,as a doctor, during the outbreak of
COVID-19,he was the first in his hospital to sign up to
go to Wuhan to save patients.I was deeply touched by
him.Secondly,being a strong-minded person,he never
gives in to difficulties.In addition,he is a warm-hearted
person, who does what he can to help those in need.
Such is my uncle. From the bottom of my heart,I
admire him most.

What next?I wondered. So tender were the pups
that it was impossible for them to resist danger without
mother's protection.Hence,I made up my mind to re-
lease her.But how?A good idea occurred to me.I went
back to my truck and fetched an iron bar.Using a rock
as the supporting point,I unlocked the chain and set the
wolf free.Realizing my rescue, the wolf kept still to co-
operate. After gaining freedom, she howled at me with
her head low, showing her gratitude. Then, the mother
wolf led her pups to go forward, disappearing in the for-
est.
Four years later,I returned to Coho Creek. The
previous gold searching spot had been transformed into a
natural wildlife reserve. As I paced, the sound of my
footsteps was accompanied only by the gracefully waving
leaves.All of a sudden,a beautiful mid-sized pool came
into my sight, with a group of wolves scattered around,
licking water or lying on the grass leisurely.Noticing my
approaching,the wolves gathered.I was seized by a
strong sense of horror,my palms sweating.Meanwhile,
a leading wolf came forwards, howling at me with her
head low.The memory crossed my mind.It was the wolf
that I saved years ago. Before long, she turned back,
leading her offspring to the forest. How amazing to see
them again!英

(Text 10)
Scientists have always wanted to explore the
vast and mysterious universe so as to have a clea-
rer picture of it.Years ago they knew many
things about the moon. They knew how big it
was and how far away it was from the earth. But
they wanted to know more about it.They thought
the best way was to send men to the moon.
8The moon is about 384,000 kilometers away
from the earth.19A plane cannot fly to the moon
because the air reaches only 240 kilometers away
from the earth. But something can fly even when
there is no air. That is a rocket.
How does a rocket fly?2There is gas in the
rocket. When the gas is made very hot inside the
rocket,it will rush out of the end of the rocket,so
it can make the rocket fly up into the sky.
Rockets can fly far out into space.Rockets
with men in them have visited the moon numer-
ous times.Several rockets without men in them
have flown to another planet much farther away
than the moon. One day rockets may be able to go
to any place in space.

UPS(联合包裹)driver Ryan Arens was
making his rounds near a pond in Bozeman,Mon-
tana,when he heard an unearthly sound."Like a
cry for help,"he told the Dodo.It was December
2019,and about 15 feet from the frozen banks
was the source of that cry-a half-submerged
brown-and-white wirehaired hound(猎犬),
struggling to hold to a thin layer of ice.How she
got there no one knows, but an elderly man was
already on the scene. He'd entered the pond in a
rowboat and was knocked at the ice with a rock
to create a path to the dog.It was slow going,
and Arens,44,thought he stood a better chance.
“Animals are my weakness,”he told the
Great Falls Tribune, explaining why he stripped
(拆开)down to his boxers and socks, even
though the temperature was freezing cold, and
commandeered the rowboat.
His heart thumping,Arens slid closer to the
dog and used the other man's rock to smash away
at the ice.He gave one strong knock and slipped
off the boat, crashing into 16 feet of freezing wa-
ter.
He resurfaced in time to see the dog going
under.Using nervous energy to keep warm,he
swam about five feet toward her, grabbed hold of
her collar, and pulled her to the ice.He then
boosted the dog into the boat and slid it back to
the shore, where anxious bystanders carried the
dog to the home of the rowboat owner,a retired
veterinarian.Once in the house himself,Arens
jumped into a warm shower with the dog until
they both defrosted(解冻).A few more minutes
in the pond, the vet told Arens, the dog would
have likely suffered cardiac arrest(心脏骤停).
The next day,Arens was back working the
same neighborhood when the dog's owner came
over to thank him for saving Sadie."Would you
like to meet her?"he asked.
He opened the door to his pickup(皮卡),
and Sadie rushed out.She made a beeline for
Arens, leaping on him and bathing him in wet
kisses.That special delivery,says Arens,"was
the highlight of my UPS career.

I have a special place in my heart for librar-
ies.I have for as long as I can remember.I was al-
ways an enthusiastic reader,sometimes reading
·6
up to three books a day as a child.Stories were
like air to me and while other kids played ball or
went to parties,I lived out adventures through
the books I checked out from the library.
My first job was working at the Ukiah Li-
brary when I was 16 years old.It was a dream job
and I did everything from shelving books to read-
ing to the children for story time.
As I grew older and became a mother, the li-
brary took on a new place and an added meaning
in my life.I had several children and books were
our main sourcet(来源)of entertainment.It was a
big deal for us to load up and go to the local li-
brary, where my kids could pick out books to
read or books they wanted me to read to them.
I always read using different voices,as
though I were acting out the stories with my
voice and they loved it It was a special time to
bond with my children and it filled them with the
wonderment of books.
Now,I see my children taking their children
to the library and I love that the excitement of
going to the library lives on form generation to
generation.
As a novelist,I've found a new relationship
with libraries.I encourage readers to go to their
local library when they can't afford to purchase a
book.I see libraries as a safe haven(风港)for
readers and writers,a bridge that helps put to-
gether a reader with a book.Libraries,in their
own way,help fight book piracy(盗版行为)and
I think all writers should support libraries in a
significant way when they can.Encourage readers
to use the library.Share library announcements
on your social media.Frequent them and talk a-
bout them when you can.

tionship with books as a child?

meaning”in paragraph3 refer to?

Lego is considering a brick rental scheme in
an attempt to cut down on plastic waste. The
Danish toymaker has promised to make all its
bricks from sustainable sources by 2030 and is
ploughing significant resources into finding alter-
natives.
Tim Brooks,vice-president responsible for
sustainability,said the company was "totally
open"to the idea of a product rental scheme but
acknowledged that lost pieces could cause a sig-
nificant problem. He said the rental scheme was
“possible'”but admitted there were some“techni-
cal barriers",one of which is the complexity of
some Lego kits(配套元件),many of which con-
tain thousands of pieces.
"What are the chances of giving them to an
eight-year-old child and getting them all back a-
gain?"Mr Brooks added. There is a lot of techni-
cal thinking that needs to be done.
“We are right at beginning of that.”Mr
Brooks said Lego was exploring several ideas
with a view to producing the highest value from
products while consuming the least amount of re-
sources. He said many would "probably never see
the light of day"and there was no current plan to
try a rental scheme.
Lego has come under increasing pressure to
reduce its carbon footprint amid growing interna-
tional alarm about the impact of plastic waste on
the environment. It manufactures 19 billion pieces
per year-36,000 a minute-that are made only
of plastic while much of the internal packaging is
also plastic.
So far,the only breakthrough has been the
development of a line of bricks made from plant-
based plastic sourced from sugarcane. The green
trees, plants and flowers were first included in
Lego sets late last year but account for only one
or two percent of the total amount of plastic ele-
ments produced.Henrik Ostergaard Nielson,a
production supervisor in Lego's factory in Bil-
lund, told the New York Times last year,"We
need to learn again how to do this.
32.How will Lego cut down on plastic waste?
A.By considering a brick rental scheme.
B.By producing a new kind of toys instead of
bricks.
C.By replacing common plastic with a renew-
able material.
D.By investing large amounts of money into
market.
6
33.What does Tim Brooks expect of the product
rental scheme?
A.It'll cause certain serious problems.
B.It'll be of great complexity.
C.It'll require more mature technical skills.
D.It'll involve much more kits of bricks.
34.What does the underlined word“many”in
paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Ideas.
B.Values.
C.Products.
D.Resources.
35.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Lego has to explore a new product to earn
a profit.
B.A brick rental scheme has been put into
mass production.
C.Plant-based plastic is environmentally friendly.
D.Lego is optimistic about the brick rental
scheme.

huge Alaskan timber wolf-caught in one of Trapper George's traps.
Old George had died the previous week of a heart attack,so the wolf was lucky.Confused
