The Last Autumn Fair
Mrs. Jennings stood by her window, watching the last leaves of autumn fall. For forty years, she had run the “Harvest Treasures” stall at the local autumn fair, selling handmade honey and telling stories. Now, the fair was to be replaced by a modern shopping center. This weekend would be the final event.
Her granddaughter, Lucy, was busy helping her pack jars of golden honey. “Grandma, are you sad?” Lucy asked, noticing her quietness.
“A little,” Mrs. Jennings smiled. “But change is part of life. The fair holds my best memories — your father running around these stalls, the laughter of friends, the community coming together. These cannot be replaced.”
On the final day, the fair was crowded. People came not just to buy, but to remember. As Mrs. Jennings shared her last jar of honey, the organizer announced a surprise. “To honor the history here, a corner of the new center will be named ‘Harvest Square,’ where Mrs. Jennings’ story and photos will be displayed.”
Mrs. Jennings felt a warmth spread through her. It wasn’t a victory against change, but a balance. The physical fair was ending, but its spirit would continue in a new form. She held Lucy’s hand, realizing that traditions could evolve, and memories could find new homes.
24. What is the main reason for this being the last autumn fair?
A. Mrs. Jennings is too old to run her stall.
B. The weather in autumn has become unsuitable.
C. The fairground will be replaced by a shopping center.
D. People are no longer interested in traditional fairs.
25. According to Mrs. Jennings, what is the most valuable thing about the fair?
A. The money she earned from selling honey. B. The high quality of the handmade products.
C. The fame it brought to her family. D. The precious memories and sense of community.
26. How does the community honor Mrs. Jennings and the fair’s history?
A. They decide to cancel the building of the shopping center.
B. They name the new shopping center after her.
C. They will display the fair’s story and photos in a part of the new center.
D. They promise to hold a secret fair every year.
27. What does Mrs. Jennings finally realize at the end of the story?
A. The fair’s spirit and memories can continue in new ways.
B. Old people should accept being forgotten by society.
C. Modern development is always harmful to traditions.
D. Young people like Lucy do not care about history.

Food is necessary for offering energy to our bodies, but sometimes we buy too much of it at the store. When your food starts to go bad, there are many other ways you can still make use of it instead of throwing it away.
Before throwing away old bananas, you can use the peels (皮) to shine up metals and leathers. Press the peel against the surface, move it backwards and forwards and then polish clean it with an old cloth. Banana meat is also good for reducing wrinkles. Put a bit on those trouble spots, let it sit for a while, and then wash it off, and your wrinkles will go away. Lemons are great for lightening skin and hair. If you have trouble with some skin diseases, like red spots on your face, put a bit of fresh lemon juice on them and leave it overnight. You’ll notice a difference in the morning. Apples will help ripen (使成熟) tomatoes quickly when they are placed together in a paper bag, and orange peels are great fire starters for your next backyard campfire party.
If your dog or cat brings home fleas, using salt is a great way to get rid of them around the house. Just pour salt into the vacuum cleaner Let it sit, then vacuum up the fleas. The salt can kill the fleas. Be sure to throw away the vacuum bag or empty the vacuum bin immediately, or some of the fleas can climb out
Beer is a great hair lightener. If you are out of lemons, try dipping your hair in beer before going outside. Just don’t forget to wash it out afterwards. Milk is great for removing dirty marks, especially if it is some type of ink.
As you can see, there are many other uses for everyday foods around the house. So next time, before throwing food away thinking it is of no use, stop for a moment and think about all their uses talked about here.
28. How many ways we make use fruit are talked about in the passage?
A. 3 B. 4
C. 5 D. 6
29. Which of the Allowing can be used to lighten your hair?
A. Lemons and beer. B. Bananas and lemon.
C. Oranges and beer D. Milk and lemon.
30. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph s refer to?
A. Apples B. Tomatoes
C. Apples tomatoes and a paper bag D. Apples and tomatoes.
31. What’s the writer attitude to surprising use of everyday food?
A. Negative B. Positive
C. Concerned D. Careful

Our Red Maple High School baseball team had never achieved significant results in the state championships. Every year we were eliminated (淘汰) early. Despite this, as the new team captain, I believed we could change that.
I am a creative girl. One autumn afternoon, I thought of a way to encourage my teammates. I decided to make a special card for each team member. The card read ”Red Maple High School Tigers — 2024 State Champions!” and included an encouraging message — “Believe in yourself, and move forward with courage!” I handed out these cards and told my teammates, “Place these cards in observable places and look at them every day to remember our goal.” My enthusiasm encouraged them, and they put the cards on their desks, in their lockers (锁柜) and even inside their baseball gloves.
As the season began, the Red Maple High School Tigers performed unexpectedly well. The players worked harder in practice and were more united in games, fighting for the common goal. My cards became their source of inspiration.
In the semifinals of the state championships, we played against a strong team, the Blue Ocean High School Sharks. The game was very exciting, with both teams taking turns to score. In the last part of the game, we lost by one point. At that moment, I walked to the pitcher’s mound and held up the card. My teammates saw the words on the card and felt a rush of determination. I told them, “We’ve come this far. We can’t give up! Believe in ourselves. We can do it!”
The teammates revived their spirit and worked together. On the final pitch, I swung with all my might and hit a home run, winning the game for our team. The cheers from the crowd were deafening, and we made it to the finals.
On the day of the finals, with relentless (坚决的) determination, we defeated our opponents and won the championship. The card that read “Red Maple High School Tigers — 2024 State Champions!” became a symbol of our victory and a source of pride for all the students and teachers at our school.

B. The weather in autumn has become unsuitable.
C. The fairground will be replaced by a shopping center.

C 25. D 26. C 27. A

Careful
C 29. A 30. D 31. B

Our Red Maple High School baseball team had never achieved significant results in the state championships. Every year, we were eliminated (淘汰) early.

根据上文“The key to getting better at running is to train frequently and consistently. Constant practice gives you time to perfect your form and commit it to muscle memory.(提高跑步水平的关键是经常且持续地训练。持续的练习能让你有时间完善动作,并将其转化为肌肉记忆)”以及下文“If you are experienced, try at least 5 days a week.(如果你有经验,尝试每周至少跑5天)”可知,此处应衔接上文的持续训练,给出具体的基础训练建议,B选项“Go on running 1 or 2 km every day.(每天坚持跑1到2公里)”既呼应了“持续训练”的核心,又为下文有经验者的训练频率做了铺垫,符合语境。故选B项。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Set a comfortable pace. If you run too fast, you’ll feel out of breath and you might want to finish your run. Instead, run slower than you need to. Pacing yourself can be one of the biggest challenges.(设定一个舒适的配速。如果你跑得太快,会感到喘不过气来,可能就想结束跑步了。相反,跑得比你需要的慢一些。控制配速可能是最大的挑战之一)”可知,此处应给出判断配速是否合适的方法,解决“控制配速”的难题,G选项“But you can judge your pace by whether you can easily say full sentences.(但你可以通过是否能轻松说出完整的句子来判断自己的配速)”提供了具体的判断方式,贴合“设定舒适配速”的主题,符合语境。故选G项。
【38题详解】
段落主题句“Warm up before and after you run.(跑步前后都要热身)”以及上文“Before you start your workout, walk or jog slowly for 3 to 5 minutes to allow your muscles to get used to the activity.
根据下文“Combine other activities with your running routine to improve muscle endurance, build up your strength and keep you injury-free. Weight training, yoga and swimming are all good choices.(将其他活动与你的跑步计划结合起来,以提高肌肉耐力、增强力量并避免受伤。力量训练、瑜伽和游泳都是不错的选择)”可知,本段核心是“将其他运动与跑步结合”,此处应填本段主旨句,C选项“Add other exercise forms to your running routine.(在你的跑步计划中加入其他运动形式)”直接点明主旨,与下文的具体建议相呼应,符合语境。故选C项。
【40题详解】
根据上文“Listen to your body and make adjustments (调整).(倾听你的身体并做出调整)”以及下文“Even small changes in your breathing can be a sign to slow down or speed up. Tightness, pain, and discomfort are all signs to slow down, change your form, or stop and recover.(即使是呼吸上的微小变化,也可能是放慢速度或加快速度的信号。紧绷、疼痛和不适都是放慢速度、改变动作或停下来恢复的信号)”可知,此处应衔接“倾听身体”与“身体信号”,D选项“Your body gives you important signs when you are running.(当你跑步时,你的身体会给你重要的信号)”既呼应了“倾听身体”的主题,又引出下文身体给出的具体信号,符合语境。故选D项。
