One afternoon, Martin Blake, a wheel chair user and travel writer, arrived at a small cruise dock expecting the familiar difficulties usually accompanying travel. Over the years, he ____1____ (learn) to allow extra time, anticipate confusion and prepare himself for unwanted attention. This time, however, the experience unfolded differently. The ship felt unlike the large liners Blake had long avoided. Smaller in scale, it offered wide passageways and open spaces ____4____ made movement easier. What struck him most, though, was not the design but the behaviour of the crew. They remained nearby but never rushed forward, ____5____ (step) in only when help was clearly needed. This restraint, rare in his experience, made the assistance feel respectful ____6____ disturbing. As the journey continued, the pattern held. Meals were served in spaces that ____7____ be reached independently, and daily activities allowed for flexibility. Short excursions were planned with multiple options, enabling passengers to decide how much support to accept. Blake gradually relaxed into routines that usually required constant adjustment, gaining insight ____8____ how thoughtful planning could reduce unnecessary stress. Looking back, he realized expectations had shifted. Accessibility was treated not as ____9____ added feature or favour, but as part of ordinary travel. Physical limits remained, yet explanation became less necessary, it no longer seemingly required ____10____ (repeat). On a ship shaped by careful choices, independence felt natural, dignity preserved through quiet details. 1. had learned##had learnt 2. proceeded 3. himself 4. that##which 5. stepping 6. rather than/ instead of 7. could 8. into 9. an 10. to be repeated##repeating 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 故填had learned/learnt。 故填that/which。 故填rather than/instead of。 故填could。 故填into。 故填an。 故填to be repeated/repeating。 Section B Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D, Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. A When you’re a teacher, a big part of your job is battling student misconceptions. Often students come to the classroom believing that learning can’t be fun and that what they learn isn’t relevant to the real world — much less to their personal interests. I’ve discovered that if I show students how what they learn is relevant to my hobbies, they’re much more willing to make connections to their personal interests and develop their own hobbies. No matter what subject I’m teaching, I find ways to bring my hobbies into the classroom. For example, I’m a car enthusiast, so when I teach physics, I contextualize concepts with my knowledge about cars. If we’re covering friction, for example, I bring different tires (轮胎) into my classroom so that my students can conduct lab experiments with them to see how friction works in real-life applications. When I first brought my hobbies to my classroom, I was focused on how doing so would build engagement and help my students understand concepts in science. But I quickly learned that the practice also helped me build stronger relationships with them. When I let them see an aspect of my life outside of school, some students who were also interested in cars connected with me more and became more engaged in my courses. Even those who didn’t share that interest with me seemed more engaged once I showed a different side of myself. What started as an experiment is now more of a philosophy. Even when I’m planning classes, I tend to think about how I can bring in my hobbies. I find that doing so energizes my instruction, engages my students, and demonstrates to them how abstract concepts play out in the real world. Best of all, my passion for my hobbies seems to inspire them to be passionate about finding their own. 36. What poses a challenge to teachers according to the author? A. Students’ misunderstandings about teachers. B. Students’ false assumptions about learning. C. The irrelevance of textbooks to students’ life. D. The gap between teachers’ and students’ hobbies. 37. Why does the author bring tires into the classroom? A. To teach an engineering skill. B. To explain the structure of a car. C. To share a real-life experience. D. To illustrate a scientific concept. 38. What was the unexpected outcome of the author’s teaching method? A. A higher class attendance rate. B. Better examination results. C. A closer teacher-student bond. D. More spare time for students. 39. Which of the following best describes the author as a teacher? A. Innovative. B. Humorous. C. Decisive. D. Sympathetic. B 37. D 38. C 39. 根据第一段“When you’re a teacher, a big part of your job is battling student misconceptions. Often students come to the classroom believing that learning can’t be fun and that what they learn isn’t relevant to the real world — much less to their personal interests (作为一名教师,工作的很大一部分是纠正学生的错误认知。学生们走进教室时,往往认为学习毫无乐趣,所学的知识与现实世界无关,更不用说和他们的个人兴趣相关了)”可知,教师面临的一大挑战是学生对于学习的错误设想,认为学习无趣且和现实、自身兴趣无关。故选B。 【37题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“I’m a car enthusiast, so when I teach physics, I contextualize concepts with my knowledge about cars. If we’re covering friction, for example, I bring different tires into my classroom so that my students can conduct lab experiments with them to see how friction works in real-life applications (我是一名汽车爱好者,所以教物理时,我会用汽车相关知识为物理概念创设情境。比如讲到摩擦力时,我会把不同的轮胎带到教室,让学生用它们做实验,看看摩擦力在现实生活中是如何起作用的)”可知,作者将轮胎带到教室,是为了借助实物实验,让学生理解摩擦力这一科学概念在现实中的应用,也就是阐释科学概念。故选D。 【38题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“When I first brought my hobbies to my classroom, I was focused on how doing so would build engagement and help my students understand concepts in science. But I quickly learned that the practice also helped me build stronger relationships with them (起初我把爱好带进课堂时,一心想着这样做能提高学生的课堂参与度,帮助他们理解科学概念,但我很快发现,这种做法还帮助我和学生建立了更紧密的关系)”可知,作者将爱好融入课堂的初衷是提升参与度、帮助学生理解概念,而意外的结果是师生之间的联系变得更加紧密。故选C。 【39题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其根据作者打破传统教学模式,主动将自己的汽车爱好融入物理课堂,通过第二段“If we’re covering friction, for example, I bring different tires into my classroom so that my students can conduct lab experiments with them to see how friction works in real-life applications (例如,如果我们要讨论摩擦,我会把不同的轮胎带到教室里,这样我的学生就可以用它们进行实验室实验,看看摩擦在现实生活中是如何工作的)”和最后一段“What started as an experiment is now more of a philosophy.Even when I'm planning classes,I tend to think about how I can bring in my hobbies.I find that doing so energizes my instruction, engages my students, and demonstrates to them how abstract concepts play out in the real world.Best of all,my passion for my hobbies seems to inspire them to be passionate about finding their own.(最初的尝试如今已演变成一种教学理念。即使在备课的时候,我也会思考如何把爱好融入教学。我发现这样做能让我的课堂更有活力,吸引学生的注意力,并向他们展示抽象概念在现实世界中的具体体现。最重要的是,我对爱好的热情似乎能激励他们满怀热情地去寻找属于自己的兴趣所在)”可知,作者作为教师,敢于创新教学方式,打破学生对学习的固有认知,是富有创新精神的。故选A。 B The City of Burlington public art program is presenting a series of temporary public art signs at the Beachway in conjunction with the Ontario Culture Days. They are even appearing inside humans. Now, new research suggests that a simple, cheap measure may significantly reduce the level of microplastics in water from your tap (水龙头): boiling and filtering (过滤) it. In a study published Wednesday in Environmental Science & Technology Letters, researchers from China found that boiling tap water for just five minutes — then filtering it after it cools — could remove at least 80 percent of its microplastics. Crucially, this process relies on the water containing enough calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) to trap the plastics. In the study, boiling hard water containing 300 milligrams of calcium carbonate led to an almost 90 percent drop in plastics. But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent. Additionally, the research didn’t include all types of plastics. The team focused only on three common types — polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene — and they didn’t study other chemicals previously found in water such as vinyl chloride. Still, the findings show a potential path forward for reducing microplastic exposure — a task that’s becoming increasingly difficult. Even bottled water, scientists found earlier this year, contains 10 to 1,000 times more microplastics than originally thought. Scientists are still trying to determine how harmful microplastics are — but what they do know has raised concerns. The new study suggests boiling tap water could be a tool to limit intake. “The way they demonstrated how microplastics were trapped through the boiling process was nice,” Caroline Gauchotte-Lindsay, an environmental engineer of the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved in the research, tells New Scientist. “We should be looking into upgrading drinking water treatment plants so they remove microplastics.” 43. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept. C. By giving examples. D. By providing statistics. 44. What determines the effectiveness of trapping microplastics in water? A. The hardness of water. B. The length of cooling time. C. The frequency of filtering. D. The type of plastic in water. 45. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning bottled water in paragraph 4? A. The importance of plastic recycling. B. The severity of the microplastic problem. C. The danger in overusing pure water. D. The difficulty in treating polluted water. 46. What is Gauchotte-Lindsay’s suggestion about? A. Choice of new research methods. B. Possible direction for further study. C. Need to involve more researchers. D. Potential application of the findings. 43. C 44. A 45. B 46. Portraits That Rewrite the Margins In Santa Ana, California, artist Brian Peterson often passed the same homeless individuals on his way to work. He realized he knew nothing about them except their silhouettes on the sidewalk. One evening, he stopped to greet a man seated near a bus stop and later painted a portrait based on the brief interaction. When he posted the painting online, people were struck by the expression on the man’s face and began asking about his story. ___47___ As Brian continued painting more people, he discovered that the process required more listening than skill. Many individuals shared chapters of their past that they had never told strangers before. He wrote down short versions of these stories and displayed them beside each portrait, hoping viewers would see the person rather than the stereotype. The more he painted, the more the project shifted from a hobby to a form of community work. buyers often asked how their payments could help the subject of the portrait. ___48___ Over time, this simple practice created trust, and several people who once avoided conversation began greeting Brian with ease when they saw him. Workshops were later added to involve students, who met and painted alongside Brian’s homeless neighbors. Some students admitted they had never spoken to a homeless person before and were surprised by how openly people described their hopes. The project also drew volunteers who offered to deliver meals or collect donations. ___49___ Today, Brian’s portraits appear in cafés, libraries and small exhibitions around the city. They remind residents that homelessness is not only an economic issue but also a human one. ___50___ A. One small portrait gradually grew into a citywide project involving more people. B. Early community support helped the project take shape locally. C. He considered raising prices so each sitter could receive a small share of earnings. D. He used each payment to buy the sitters basic items needed daily. E. At first he doubted whether the project could continue or matter to anyone. F. These experiences showed that empathy expressed through art can reshape public attitudes. 47. E 48. D 49. F 50. Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Why Gratitude Is Good for You? Gratitude is more than just saying ‘thank you’ to someone who has helped us or given us a gift. Gratitude is a deeper appreciation for someone or something that makes us feel a positive emotion. And this positive emotion can be good for our health -- our emotional and physical health, as well as the health of our relationships. Let’s start by looking at the emotional or mental health benefits of expressing gratitude. There have been many studies, as described in a 2018 paper from the Greater Good Science Center titled ‘The Science of Gratitude’, showing that writing a gratitude letter to another person or writing in a gratitude journal, if done regularly, improves mental health. It is because gratitude stops us from thinking about toxic, negative emotions, and writing a ‘thank you’ letter, for example, shifts our attention so that we focus on positive emotions. But even if we don’t share our writing with anyone, like in a journal, the act of completing the exercise alone makes us happier and more satisfied with life. And this gets better with time. So, the more we express gratitude, the more positive we feel. Gratitude can also make us feel good in our bodies. There are studies linking a gratitude practice to better sleep quality, better eating habits, and reduced inflammation in people who have had heart problems. So gratitude is clearly good for us, but is it also good for the people in our lives? The simple answer is ‘yes’. When shared — spoken or written — gratitude is about feeling valued and helping others feel valued too. Feeling valued can help build stronger relationships — be it with family, partners, friends or even colleagues. And that’s on top of all the other ways gratitude is clearly good for us. Maybe we should all stop counting sheep or counting calories and start counting our blessings instead. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Gratitude, which is a deeper appreciation for someone or something, is good for our emotional and physical health, as well as the health of our relationships. From my perspective, a robot is more suitable for the position of librarian. With regard to the range of service, a librarian needs not only to classify books, but also put and find them in the right order on the right shelf, while being a waiter involves serving the right dishes to the right table, doing some cleaning and so on. A robot can accomplish three or four librarians’ work of sorting and labeling books at the same time. In terms of working efficiency, a robot may be more efficient in doing the programmed mechanical and repetitive kind of work. Therefore, it is more advisable for the robot to undertake the duties of a librarian grouping countless books repeatedly. In a nutshell, it is the mechanical work of a librarian that the robot is more competent at. Hope that my advice will be of great help to your decision. Section B Directions: Fill in each blank with a proper word chosen from the box. A. C Microplastics have become a common source of pollution across the Earth — they have settled in the deep sea and on the Himalayas, stuck inside volcanic rocks, filled the stomachs of seabirds and even fallen in fresh Antarctic snow. Section C Directions: Read the passage carefully. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. Ⅳ.Summary Writing (10分) 51. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ⅴ.Translation (15分) Directions: Translate the following sentences into English, using the words given in the brackets. 52. (expose)(汉译英) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 53. (credit)(汉译英) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 54. (shape n.)(汉译英) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 55. (witness)(汉译英) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Ⅵ.Guided Writing(25分) 56.
