When Rachel Crampton had to take a 23-hour flight from London to Sydney with her three young children, she had an idea. She made a post online. Crampton offered to pay around $650 for someone to fly with her and help her with the children.
She found Sarah Leonard, an Australian girl living in London. Leonard was missing home badly but couldn’t pay for the flight back. So she helped the family during the flight. It worked out so well for both of them that Crampton decided to turn the idea into a real service.
She created Juurnee, a website where people can look for someone to help them with air travel. People can post the details of their travel plans, the type of help they need—like carrying bags or helping with kids—and how much they can pay. People looking for companions (同伴) might be parents of small children like Crampton. Or they might be people with disabilities or injuries (损伤) . Or they could just be nervous passengers who don’t want to go alone. They can choose how much they want to pay and whether to ask for help one-way or on a return flight as well.
As for the companions, Crampton says, “You don’t need to be a nanny (保姆) or nurse—just a kind person willing (愿意) to lend a hand.”
Writing about that first trip, Leonard said helping take care of three kids might not have been too relaxing. But she also wrote, “______!”
8. Why did Rachel Crampton post online before she flew to Sydney?
A. To find a cheaper air ticket. B. To look for a travel companion for help.
C. To sell her extra plane ticket. D. To ask for advice about traveling with kids.
9. What do we know about Juurnee from the text?
A. A medical magazine. B. An airline company.
C. A woman from London. D. A website for travel help.
10. Who would most probably use the Juurnee service?
A. A businessman travelling abroad alone.
B. A driver who needs a rest during a flight.
C. A woman with a broken arm taking an air trip.
D. A student flying home for vacation with friends.
11. Which of the following sentences can be put back into ______?

One year skirts are long, and the next they’re short. Jeans are narrow one year, and baggy the next. The only certain thing about fashion is that it is always changing! It’s hard to keep up if you always want to wear the latest fashions. Who decides what is fashionable?
One big influence (影响) on fashion is advertising. The fashion industry spends a great deal of money advertising their products: online, in magazines, on screens and in outdoor advertisements. We often see images (形象) of “beautiful people” living exciting lives, dressed in expensive clothes. They are all around us, so they influence our thoughts about how we look. However, if you see the truth behind advertising, you will be careful when you spend money on fashion.
Popular culture also influences fashion. Famous people are often fashion pioneers. Film stars, sports stars, or even social media “influencers” are paid to wear fashionable clothes and jewellery (珠宝) , so they are always looking for new ways to attract (吸引) attention. Therefore, their fans follow their style.
These fans are so blind that they don’t realise how much this behaviour costs them in time and money. If we want to look good, do we really need to copy a beautiful model in a magazine or a social media influencer? Don’t forget that there’s a better way to think about how you dress. Having your own style can mean wearing clothes that are older, but wearing them with confidence. As long as you feel comfortable and relaxed in them, you are creating your own personal style.
12. Which of the following can influence fashion according to the text?
①Advertising ②Seasons ③Personal hobbies ④Popular culture
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ①④ D. ②④
13. What does the underlined word “blind” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. unable to see B. not thinking carefully
C excited and happy D. full of love
14. What does the writer suggest people do about dressing?
A. Always follow the latest clothes. B. Buy the most expensive clothes.
C. Copy the style of beautiful models. D. Create their own style with confidence.
15. What can be the best title of the text?
A. The Truth behind Fashion Changes B. The Cost of Following Fashion
C. The Power of Your Personal Style D. The Influence of Famous People
【答案】12. C 13. B 14. D 15. A
【解析】

【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句“These fans are so blind that they don’t realise how much this behaviour costs them in time and money.”可知,这些粉丝没有意识到这种行为在时间和金钱上的代价,说明他们缺乏思考,盲目跟风。因此blind在此意为“不加思考的”。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“Having your own style can mean wearing clothes that are older, but wearing them with confidence. As long as you feel comfortable and relaxed in them, you are creating your own personal style.”可知,作者建议人们自信地创造自己的个人风格,而不是盲目跟风。故选D。
【15题详解】

12 Which of the following can influence fashion according to the text?
①Advertising ②Seasons ③Personal hobbies ④Popular culture
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ①④ D. ②④
13. What does the underlined word “blind” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. unable to see B. not thinking carefully
C. excited and happy D. full of love
