It shows a change in water management. Instead of only depending on the traditional gray system like pipes and drains (排水道), it makes cities function like sponges. These cities deal with rainwater naturally through a mix of gray, green (e.g. parks, wetlands), and blue (e.g. ponds, rivers) systems. The goal of China is to have 80 percent of cities across the country sponge-like by 2030. To reach this, 30 cities were chosen to test the program nationwide. Investments (投资) to develop sponge cities have come primarily from public funds, with costs expected at $15-22 million per square kilometer or higher in developed areas. The program provides a wide range of benefits, from direct flood control to important environmental and social co-benefits. These benefits make it a “no-regret” investment for further development. Here is a breakdown of its benefits. Developing Sponge Cities also faces many challenges, such as legal and management problems. But financial (财政) challenges have been identified as one of the main challenges. However, by addressing these, the program contributes to building more livable cities in China, working in harmony with nature. 1. What is the purpose of the Sponge City Program? A. To raise funds. B. To lower flooding risks. C To develop tourism. D. To change green practice. 2. Which of the following is the direct cobenefit? A. Increasing land values. B. Reducing flood losses. C. Improving natural habitat. D. Promoting business environment. 3. What is the key problem with the Sponge City Program? A. Old system. B. Public concern. C. Poor management. D. Economic difficulty. B My family was hosting an exchange student from the UK named Tom. To show him the charm (魅力) of Chinese culture, my mother decided we would make dumplings together on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I had told Tom many times that I was a “pro” at making dumplings, showing off hundreds of perfect ones I had made with my mother. Tom was curious and excited, his eyes shining as he watched my mother prepare the fresh dough (面团) and filling. We gathered around the kitchen table, which was covered with a thin layer of white flour (面粉). I picked up a piece of dough, rolled it into a circle, and started to explain the “art” of folding. “Watch carefully, Tom,” I said confidently. “The key is to create perfect pleats (褶皱) so the filling stays inside.” Tom followed my every move, his large hands struggling to handle the tiny, slippery piece of dough. He looked at me with great respect, waiting for my masterpiece to appear. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as I had imagined. Perhaps I was too nervous or had been away from my mother’s kitchen for too long. When I tried to close my first dumpling, the skin suddenly tore, and the filling flowed out. My “perfect” dumpling looked more like a flattened pancake. I tried again, but the more I rushed, the worse it became. My face turned red as I felt my “expert” identity slipping away. Tom stared at my messy hands, his earlier excitement replaced by a confused silence. Just then, my mother laughed gently and reminded me of old Chinese sayings: “Practice makes perfect, and mistakes are the best teachers”. She then turned to Tom and said, “In China, it’s not about how the dumpling looks, but the love we put into making it together.” This taught me that I had been so focused on boasting that I had forgotten to actually enjoy the moment with my friend. 4. How did the author feel about making dumplings at first? A. It was simple. B. It was impressive. C. It was graceful. D. It was challenging. 5. What was the author trying to do in Paragraph 2? A. Show his cooking skill. B. Teach Tom to make dumplings. C. Prepare the dumpling dough. D. Wait for Tom’s dumpling masterpiece. 6. What do we know about the author in Paragraph 3? A. He felt embarrassed about his work. B. He showed his “pro” to Tom skillfully. C. Tom was satisfied with his masterpiece. D. Making dumplings went smoothly as he expected. 7. What did the author think important about the experience of making dumplings? A. A perfect shape. B. The delicious filling. C. The shared moment. D. A lesson from failure. C The population of the desert tortoise (乌龟) — which is geographically specific to the Mojave Desert, US — has dropped to less than 10 percent of its historic numbers, mainly due to being hunted by ravens (渡鸦). Since 1990, the species has been listed as threatened by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The bad fortune of the desert tortoise came before the first raven discovered a transmission line tower transporting green energy. Since 1982, when the energy company Solar One built the first solar power plant in the Mojave, it has gradually destroyed the desert tortoise’s home, clearing the desert floor to hold ever more green energy installations (安装). The towers provide ravens with convenient homes, from where ravens can search the desert floor for hunting the desert tortoises. Man-made lakes, greens, and garbage along with human development now provide enough food and shelter for ravens, so that these birds now stay in these places year-round. As a result, the raven population in the Mojave has increased sharply. Understanding this threat, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has actively relocated tortoises from the places for green power installation to the ones where they can grow safely. But relocating desert tortoises causes half of them to lose their summer-long water supply and die. Only 25 percent of those moved survive. Meanwhile, conservationists (环保主义者) have long aimed to lift tortoise populations up by pushing raven numbers down. There are no easy fixes. One effective way is green light from lasers (激光). The laser doesn't harm the ravens, but it does drive them away. Tim Shields, a biologist and inventor, points green laser light at ravens to make them afraid of returning. This strategy, however, needs a lot of people and time to carry out, which is not cost-effective. We are left today with several unsatisfactory choices for fixing the eco-harm we created. We could conduct more research in the hope of finding more effective solutions. Or, we could accept that our green energy solutions come at a cost and allow nature to take its course. 8. What does the author mainly tell in Paragraph 1? A. The ravens. B. The tortoise habitats. C. The threatened species. D. The eco-friendly organization. 9. What is the main cause for the raven’s sharp increase? A. Lack of tortoises. B. Human activities. C. Climate changes. D. Setting up reserves. 10. What can we learn about the measures to protect tortoises? A. They are highly effective. B. They are well received. C. It takes ages to see their results. D. They need to be further improved. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Ravens: Why to Stay? B. Eco-harm: When to Stop? C. Green Energy: What’s the Next? D. Desert Tortoises: What’s the Future? D Minnesota, mid-winter. A snowstorm blows through the city, leaving 500,000 homes without power, drivers stuck on highways and flights put off. Meanwhile, forty feet up an electric pole (电线杆), a technician is trying to get the lights back on, but not knowing where to check the fix or how to call for support from the rescue centre. When disaster hits, frontline workers must mobilize. But, too often, they are going to work armed with last century’s tools. Rescue efforts are running on clipboards (记事板) and piles of paper. And there’s a price: longer power failure, and water supply shut off for longer. This is one of cases calling for Industrial AI. It is AI that is trained to fix specific problems in dangerous situations where, sometimes, life is on the line. And, AI has the power to change how we respond (回应) to disasters. Before a disaster hits, planners, with the help of an Industrial AI, predict where a heavy storm might move next — and maps a live view of what is at risk. Rescue workers are timely sent to the exact sites as the facts change. And, once technicians are on the job, they will know what’s gone wrong on an image or video and they will finish the fix quickly through AI guidance. “If we can cut recovery time by getting rescue workers to the right places with the right tools, before the event even hits, then hospitals stay powered, field teams work safely and families return to warm homes faster,” said Brian Burdette, head of the rescue team. These are AI technologies that are already being tested. But, if we’re to see a real influence, we need to enter into a spirit of openness and cooperation (合作). We need nations and companies to pull together at a system-wide level, not just organization by organization or area by area, catching the chance that industrial AI presents for intelligent responses. For technicians risking their life in a disaster, we owe them that much. 12. What does Paragraph 1 mainly tell us about the disaster? A. Its cause. B. Its type. C. Its influence. D. Its location. 13. What does the underlined “life is on the line” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Time is running out. B. AI is worth its value. C. People are waiting in line. D. People are risking their lives. 14. What is Brian Burdette’s attitude towards Industrial AI rescue work? A. Supportive B. Doubtful C. Uncertain D. Objective 15. What does the author suggest about the rescue work in the last paragraph? A. Cutting recovery time B. Encouraging cooperation. C. Training skilled technicians. D. Using advanced technology. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 As a researcher on communication, I’ve found that people’s ability to make new friends doesn’t come and go at random (随机的). When people find that they are having a hard time making new friends, they often blame themselves. ____16____ In a strong friendship market, a lot of people in a particular setting are interested in “buying” or “selling” friendship. For example, teenagers join a new high school. New connections come easily. ____17____ People are open to conversation, but not connection. A parent shows up at a parent-teacher meeting, and even if others are friendly, they keep their distance. Even trying your best to reach out to others doesn’t inspire reply. That shows a friendship market has closed. Open friendship markets become harder to find in adulthood. But there’s a key to finding new ones. ____18____ We rethink ourselves through our connections with friends. These connections help us to build our desired selves, who we are, and who we are becoming. Basketball lovers, for example, will look for friendships in basketball clubs — to find people who understand their experiences. To be clear, being aware of “friendship market” does not mean that those friendship are traded freely. ____19____ They are not always easy to get. Everyone needs to make sure to find them out, increasing the possibility of connection in our busy, sometimes lonely-feeling lives. I recommend a 2026 New Year’s resolution (决心): ____20____ Rather than waiting for new connections to find you. A. Friendships are not goods. B. We should change a sense of self. C. Do the work to find new friendship markets. D. Everyone already has fully formed friend groups. E. Friendships are found everywhere in our daily life. F. It shows what I call the “friendship market” they are in. G. But we spend much of our lives in a weaker friendship market. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 Jeff teaches senior English at Providence High School in Charlotte.
