As a child, Farhan often climbed trees whenever she had problems, staying there until she calmed down. Nature has always been there for her. This is why she has been trying to be there for nature when it needs her help. Farhan brought her love for nature to her college years. She took a master’s degree in environmental management at the University of Queensland in Australia. In 2009, while studying at the university, she had an opportunity to work with Carbon Capture and Storage Institute, an international think tank that focused on carbon capture and storage to cut down emissions (排放), and earned some money. In 2012, along with several of her coworkers, she formed the Forest, Nature, and Environment of Ace h Foundation (HAkA). In 2014, HAkA achieved one huge victory. making an oil company pay $30 million for the damage it caused to the ecosystem. Farhan said this landmark victory was historic because it was the first time that Indonesia had fined a company for burning forests. Besides, HAkA also stopped the construction of a dam that put an elephant habitat in Indonesia at risk. HAkA, now a 12-year-old institution, also has programs for women such as assistant lawyer and citizen journalism training and forest guard groups. Farhan said they saw a need to empower women as protectors of the environment because women are much more affected by the effects of environmental destruction and climate change. The conservationist said disasters such as crop failures could affect the financial status (财政状况) of families, making it more likely for them to force women to be in arranged marriages to get out of poverty or relocate to areas full of violence. Farhan has won several awards and she commented, “The work should include everyone from all walks of life. The recognition belongs to all fighting on the ground.” 24. What did nature mean to young Farhan? A. A mother of all things. B. A shelter for wildlife. C. A magical theme park. D. A comforting partner. 25. What drove Farhan to start HAkA? A. Her working pressure. B. Her economic condition. C. Her program in university. D. Her passion from childhood. 26. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about concerning HAkA? A. Its strict standards. B. Its business model. C. Its major successes. D. Its running system. 27. Why did Farhan call on women to be environmental fighters? A They are more subject to eco-crisis. B. C Smart driving, which has been a buzzword in China for quite some time, is gaining further attention, as the government and car companies have called for cautious use of the vague (模糊的) term. Vehicle automation is divided into six levels, from Level 0 to 5, according to the Society of Automotive Engineers. Functions available in passenger vehicles in China are Level 2, usually known as driving-assist functions, but many carmakers refer to them as smart driving in marketing campaigns, which sound more advanced than they actually are. A great number of car buyers tend to buy into the hype (炒作) as well, believing that their cars are capable of autonomous driving, which in fact belongs to Level 4 or 5. At a technology meeting on Wednesday, Voyah CEO Lu Fang said carmakers should let car buyers know the capabilities of the specific models they choose. “Safety is the baseline. They must know what their vehicles can do. Also, you shall never confuse them with those vague ideas,” said Lu. “The very purpose of tools of transport is to move things and people from point A to point B safely. So safety is a topic you can never avoid.” he said. In a previous interview, Lu said he sometimes got angry at the videos that went viral online, where some bragged about how smart their vehicles were. “Safety is the best policy.” said Yu Chengdong, a Huawei executive, when he introduced new models on Wednesday. On the same day, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized a meeting and told automakers that they must thoroughly test advanced driver assistance systems, clearly define system boundaries and safety response measures, and avoid misleading marketing. They must also fulfill their duty to inform users, and take full responsibility for product quality and safety. Since last year, the popularity of smart driving technologies have seen explosive growth. In 2024, 8.67 million passenger vehicles in the Chinese market were delivered with Level 2 systems, accounting for more than 41 percent of the total. 28. Which level should a car at least reach to have the ability to drive autonomously? A. Level 0. B. Level 3. C. Level 4. D. Level 5. 29. Why do carmakers call Level 2 functions smart driving in marketing? A. To accurately describe the functions of their vehicles. B. To follow the industry standards of smart driving vehicles. C. To make their products seem more advanced and attractive. D. To confirm Level 2 functions are actually equal to smart driving. 30. Which can replace the underlined phrase “bragged about” in paragraph 3? A. Showed off. B. Complained about. C. Reflected on. D. Commented on. 31. What can be learned from the passages? A. More car buyers will be misled by smart driving carmakers. B. The government’s measures will stop the hype of smart driving. C. The development of smart-driving technologies will slow down. D. Carmakers continuing misleading consumers might be punished. D Some songs might speak to your soul even if you don't know the words. The almost magical way that music reflects and influences our emotions led American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to declare it the “universal language of mankind”. But how universal is it really? A team of more than a dozen researchers and countless undergraduates set out to collect and interpret descriptions and recordings of musical performances around the world. Their first finding: Music is indeed universal. Or at least statistical modeling strongly suggests that more than 99% of societies have music. Then, they analyzed the song descriptions for sixty very different societies and looked at different qualities related to song performance. As they classified the songs, they found that three dimensions (方面) accounted for more than a quarter of the variability between songs. The first was how formal or informal a song was. Songs high in formality had large audiences and lots of instruments, often involved ceremonial events, and frequently had adult-only audiences. Informal events had smaller audiences, including children, or no audience at all. The second was how arousing a song was to its listeners. Lively events involving lots of dancing were high on this dimension, while a low value reflected a calmer event, like someone singing to themselves or a baby. The last was how religious song was. Songs used in ceremonies were high in religiosity, while those without a spiritual context scored low. The researchers applied their findings to four widespread categories of music: lullabies (摇篮), dance songs, love songs and healing songs, and found clear trend. Most dance was highly arousing and formal, but low in religiosity. Lullabies were mostly low in formality and low in arousal. And healing songs scored high in all dimensions while love songs were low in all dimensions. Even more interesting, the distribution of these behaviors was similar in all societies studied. Scholars say that their database could fuel future research into even more inspiring questions about music universals. And their method might be used to pick out patterns in other hard-to-analyze fields, like storytelling or visual art. 32. How was the research conducted? A. By making comparison and contrast. B. By finding similarities. C. By collecting and analyzing data. D. By illustrating examples. 33. Which kind of music may involve the most audiences and instruments? A. Lullabies. B. Dance songs. C. Love songs. D. Healing songs. 34. How is the future of their research findings according to the scholars? A. Promising. B. Unpredictable. C. Impractical. D. Limited. 35. What can be concluded from the passage? A. Songs can speak to your soul only if you know their words. B. Differences in formality lead to the variability between songs. C. Music is classified by the number of audience and instruments. D. Research on the universals of music can help explore other fields. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In a troubled world, a clever spy races against time to discover a dangerous plot. ____36____ Recently, this type of TV drama has been more popular in Western countries. Studies show that humor makes average-looking people appear more attractive and helps uninteresting individuals seem attractive. More importantly, humor boosts your energy, positively affecting school performance, work productivity, and personal relationships. This increased energy might even motivate you to exercise, creating a beneficial cycle. Additionally, humor acts as an escape from daily stress, helping you gain perspective and laugh through challenges. To use humor effectively, you don’t need to be a joke-teller. Simply guiding conversations toward lighthearted topics lets others contribute humor naturally, making you appear fun by association. Effort matters greatly in social humor — even unsuccessful attempts encourage others to participate, as people feel “permitted” to be funny when they see others trying. Interestingly, humorous quality matters less than your attitude; sincerity and enthusiasm often win over perfectly crafted jokes. However, balance is key — while humorous complaints about minor issues can be funny initially, overusing them becomes boring. Similarly, proper amount of self-deprecating (自贬的) humor works best. One playful comment shows confidence, but too much self-mockery risks making you seem insecure. The safest humor strategy combines variety and restraint (克制). Avoid leaning too heavily on complaint-based jokes or self-critical remarks. Instead, focus on creating a playful atmosphere where humor flows naturally. Remember that humor’s true power lies not in making people laugh constantly, but in lifting collective energy and strengthening connections. By using humor thoughtfully, you’ll enhance both your social interactions and personal resilience without needing to become a comedian. 77. 根据文章内容,用恰当的词完成下列表格,没空一词。 Humor Benefits of humor ● Humor is a form of entertainment. Humor can improve one’s ________ and personality. ● Humor can make one ________ in his work, study, and life. ● Humor has a positive psychological effect when we are in difficulties. ________ to follow ● ________ others for a conversation of fun is as good as telling a joke yourself when showing your sense of humor ● Quality counts ________ than attitude and effort; ● One humorous complaint makes funny person. But too many complaints will ________ your audience. ● Self-deprecating comments show one’s confidence, but too much deprecation will make a Chihuahua dog. ________ The combination of variety and restraint is the best policy. 78. 结合文章内容,回答下列问题,字数应为50词左右,不要用文中原句。 How can you improve your relationship with your classmates through appropriate humor? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2024~2025学年第二学期高一年级6月学情检测 英语试题 说明:1. 6. Today i'd like to tell you about my current research topic dynamic, or the practice of counting on one's fingers. Feel so natural that you might assume that everyone does IT the same way. However, people around the world actually have very different methods. If you're from the U. K, germany, france or many parts of europe, you probably start counting with your thumb and finish with your smallest finger. Meanwhile, some people in amErica start with the first finger and end with the thumb. In parts of the middle east, most people begin with the smallest finger, while the japanese start with open hand and gradually draw in each finger until they have a closed fist. Other countries have even more unique methods. Many bond speakers in tanzania use both hands equally where possible. For example, the number six is represented with three fingers on each hand. Indian children are taught to count using the lines between each finger joint. This allows for more advanced calculations, as each of the five fingers represents four numbers. Not only can finger counting reveal where in the world you come from, but IT can also reflect how we learned to understand numbers. Hi everyone.
