当主语是由all of、most of、some of、half of、a part of、the rest of等接名词或代词,或由“分数/百分数+名词或代词”构成的短语作主语时,谓语动词的单复数形式取决于名词或代词的单复数。
成双成套的复数名词如glasses、scissors、shoes、trousers、pants、gloves、stockings等作主语时,谓语动词通常用复数;但如果复数名词前面有a/the pair of、a/the suit of 等词语修饰时,谓语动词则用单数。

由第二句中的that和第一句中的so many可知,第二句中可用“so...that...” There are so many online tools。故填There are so many online tools。
7.The teacher is not content with the result. The students are not content with the result.
→ the result.
Neither the teacher nor the students are content with
连接并列主语,即neither the teacher nor the students,谓语部分遵循“就近原则”,和the students保持一致,句子是一般现在时,be动词使用are。故填Neither the teacher nor the students are content with。
8.Helen is not good at French, and John is not good at French either.(用neither..…nor...
Neither Helen nor John is good at French.
Neither Helen nor John is good at French.
9.If you are tired, you can sit on this end of the boat and you can also sit on the other end.(用either...or...
If you are tired, you can sit either on this end of the boat or on the other
【详解】either…or… 要么……”,是固定结构,表示选择关系,结合句意可知,是this end of the boat和on the other end这两个部分的选择,故改为If you are tired, you can sit either on this end of the boat or on the other.
10.Both his father and his mother are fond of light music.
Neither his father nor his mother is fond of light music.
结合句意可知,both…and… Neither his father nor his mother is fond of light music.

With the seasons changing, now is the perfect time to start planning summer experiences at outdoor theatres in parks, city squares, woodlands and even the side of a cliff! We’ve put together a list of the best ones to visit across the UK.
Grosvenor Park, Chester
Every summer, Storyhouse theatre packs up their items and builds an entire amphitheatre (圆形剧场) in Grosvenor Park. This year’s programme sees an eclectic trio:
The Gangs of New York, The I’m portance of Being Earnest and The Wizard of Oz. I’m most excited by the first: a new adaptation written by Kieran Lynn and directed by John Young. I don’t think this story has ever been staged before and it seems like a wild pick for a summer outdoor show.
Minack Theatre, Cornwall
Built into a cliff face in Porthcurno, you hardly need an excuse to visit this theatre. Seeing anything at all, backgrounded by the azure Cornish sea, will be an unforgettable experience. This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and the less-known works of Shakespeare.
Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Highland Perthshire
Throughout most of the year, the Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s indoor concert hall and studio serve as their regular performance spaces. But this summer, you can see equally lavish productions at the amphitheatre, located in the woods and overlooking Ben-Y-Vrackie mountain. This year they’ll be staging Dido and Aeneas.
Shakespeare in the Squares, London
Is there anything more luxuriously summery than lazing down to your local square for a bit of Shakespeare and a picnic? These guys do what they say on the tin, travelling across the squares of London with a new Shakespeare production every year. This year will be All’s Well That Ends Well.
1.Which play fascinates the author most?
A.The Gangs of New York. B.The Importance of Being Earnest.
C.The Wizard of Oz. D.Little Shop of Horrors.
2.Where can you enjoy a play in the Pitlochry Festival Theatre this summer?
A.On the cliff. B.In the woods. C.At a concert hall. D.On city squares.
3.What is a proper choice for a Shakespeare fan?
A.Grosvenor Park and Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
B.Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Minack Theatre.
C.Minack Theatre and Shakespeare in the Squares.
D.Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Shakespeare in the Squares.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C
根据“Grosvenor Park, Chester”部分第二段中“The Gangs of New York, The I’m portance of Being Earnest and The Wizard of Oz. I’m most excited by the first: a new adaptation written by Kieran Lynn and directed by John Young.”(《纽约黑帮》、《认真的重要性》和《绿野仙踪》。 可知,作者最感兴趣的剧目是“The Gangs of New York”。故选A。
根据“Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Highland Perthshire”部分中“But this summer, you can see equally lavish productions at the amphitheatre, located in the woods and overlooking Ben-Y-Vrackie mountain.”(但是今年夏天,你可以在位于森林中并且俯瞰Ben-Y-Vrackie山的圆形剧场看到同样豪华的制作。)
根据“Minack Theatre, Cornwall”部分中的“This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and the less-known works of Shakespeare.”(今年将上演巡回演出的“Little Shop of Horrors”和较少为人知的莎士比亚作品。)以及“Shakespeare in the Squares, London”部分中“These guys do what they say on the tin, travelling across the squares of London with a new Shakespeare production every year.”(这些人做到了他们所说的,每年都会带着新的莎士比亚作品在伦敦的广场上巡回演出。)可知,莎士比亚的粉丝可以选择Minack Theatre和Shakespeare in the Squares,故选C。

As we age, it becomes common to experience stiffness (僵硬) or discomfort during simple daily movements. However, if such problems occur frequently, it may indicate the need to focus on mobility exercises. According to sports medicine specialists, maintaining good mobility is essential for long-term health and can help reduce the risk of various diseases, including heart conditions and depression.
Mobility is often confused with flexibility, but the two are distinct concepts. Flexibility refers to how far a muscle can stretch, while mobility combines strength with the ability to move freely through a full range of motion. It involves the coordinated function of muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. Without adequate mobility, everyday tasks such as reaching overhead, bending down, or lifting objects can become challenging.
From around the age of 30, the body naturally begins to lose collagen (胶原蛋白), leading to weaker muscular support and increased stress on joints. Even active individuals may overlook certain muscle groups, such as those supporting the shoulders and spine. Two early signs may suggest the need for mobility training: first, general joint stiffness or aching without significant exertion; second, sharp pain or swelling after occasional physical activity, such as playing sports.
Experts warn against extreme self-tests popular on social media, which can easily cause injury without proper guidance. Instead, simple assessments like standing up from a chair without using hands or balancing on one foot can indicate current mobility levels. To maintain or improve mobility, regular low-impact exercises are recommended.
Walking daily is an accessible starting point, especially for those who are less active. Integrating short mobility sessions into existing routines—such as hip lifts, knee pulls, or spinal twists—can gradually enhance movement capacity. Exercises like Tai Chi and yoga are also beneficial as follow-up practices, as they promote strength, balance, and joint mobility.
For those seeking a structured workout plan, body-weight exercises like chair squats or wall push-ups can be done at home. As these become easier, resistance bands may be added to build further strength. Consistency is key; improvements in mobility may take several weeks to become noticeable, but regular, intentional practice leads to lasting and meaningful results.
In summary, focusing on mobility through safe, regular exercises helps preserve functional independence and supports overall well-being throughout aging.
4.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Tasks challenging for inactive people. B.Diseases caused by poor joint function.
C.How to improve muscle stretching ability. D.Differences between mobility and flexibility.
5.Which is a simple mobility assessment?
A.Balancing on one foot. B.Lifting heavy objects.
C.Trying extreme social media tests. D.Using hands to stand up from a chair.
6.What is a recommended starting exercise for less active people?
A.Practicing Tai Chi regularly. B.Walking daily.
C.Using resistance bands at home. D.Doing wall push-ups frequently.
7.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To warn against extreme self-tests.
B.To compare mobility and flexibility.
C.To introduce high-impact exercise types.
D.To stress the importance of mobility in aging.
【答案】4.D 5.A 6.B 7.D
根据文章第二段“Mobility is often confused with flexibility, but the two are distinct concepts. Flexibility refers to how far a muscle can stretch, while mobility combines strength with the ability to move freely through a full range of motion.(灵活性经常与柔韧性混淆,但两者是不同的概念。
根据文章第四段“Instead, simple assessments like standing up from a chair without using hands or balancing on one foot can indicate current mobility levels.(相反,一些简单的评估,比如不用手从椅子上站起来或单脚站立,就能反映出当前的灵活性水平)”可知,单脚站立是一种简单的灵活性评估方法。故选A。
根据文章第五段的“Walking daily is an accessible starting point, especially for those who are less active.(每天散步是一个容易实现的起点,尤其是对于那些不太活跃的人来说)”可知,对于不太活跃的人来说,推荐的入门锻炼是每天散步。故选B。

A. rushed匆忙;B. introduced介绍;C. sent送,寄出;D. carried搬运。根据前文“I was nine years old when she entered our home in rural Virginia.”后文“I would like you to meet the fellow”可知,作者的父亲是在把作者“介绍”给作者的继母。故选B项。
A. later迟于;B. sooner较早地;C. longer更长;D. earlier更早。根据前文“I would like you to meet the fellow who is distinguished for being the worst boy in this county”可知,此处父亲说作者是本地最坏的孩子,显然不会轻而易举地接受继母,不“迟于”明天早上就会向她扔石头。故选A项。
A. dragged拖拉;B. raised抬起;C. shook摇动;D. bent弯下。根据后文“my head slightly upward, and looked me right in the eye”以及“Then she looked at my father and replied, “You are wrong. This is not the worst boy at all, ______ the smartest one who hasn’t yet found a way of expressing his enthusiasm.””
A. so所以;B. but但是;C. or或者;D. and和。根据空后“the smartest one who hasn’t yet found a way of expressing his enthusiasm.” 本句是“not...but...”
A. agreement同意;B. gap间隙;C. friendship友谊;D. relationship关系。根据前文继母说的话““You are wrong. This is not the worst boy at all, ______ the smartest one who hasn’t yet found a way of expressing his enthusiasm.””和后文“No one had ever called me smart.”
A. opinion建议;B. image想象;C. mind头脑、思维方式;D. expectation期望。
A. persuaded劝说;B. begged祈求;C. ordered命令;D. invited邀请。 故选A项。
根据前文“She changed many things. She ______ my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with honors.”和下文“I saw how it had already improved our lives.”
A. treated对待;B. amused逗乐;C. respected尊重;D. educated教育。根据前文“She changed many things. She ______ my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with honors.”和下文“I saw how it had already improved our lives.”
A. considered考虑;B. appreciated感激;C. allowed允许;D. doubted怀疑。根据后文“I saw how it had already improved our lives. I accepted her ______ and began to write for local newspapers. I was doing the same kind of writing that great day when I went to interview Andrew Carnegie and received the task which became my life’s work later.”
A. blame责备;B. belief相信、看法;C. request请求;D. description描述。根据前文“When I turned fourteen, she bought me a secondhand typewriter and told me that she believed that I could become a writer.”
A. only唯一的;B. next下一个的;C. same相同的;D. real真的。根据下文“My father became the ______ man in town. My brothers and stepbrothers became a physician, a dentist, a lawyer, and a college president.” 故选A项。
根据上文“She ______ my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with honors.”
根据第一段“Another person’s enthusiasm was what set me moving toward the success I have achieved. That person was my stepmother.”
根据下文“it becomes a powerful force which poverty and defeat can never match”可知,当热情释放的能量来支撑一个人的目标,并且这一能量“不断地”被信仰强化时,它就会产生不可抗拒的力量。
With three little babies, I never took a break, completely ignoring any self-care. When I was too tired to make myself dinner, I’d just eat the kids’ leftover cereal (麦片粥). I thought this was a great plan to lose some weight and called it the “Cereal for Diet.” Back then,I knew nothing about nutrition. Of course, the Cereal for Diet failed, as did all my other attempts.
One day, after cleaning up all the mess my kids had made, I went out for a walk. I passed a gym. I looked away.Healthy people went there, but this was not me. While turning away,I saw an ad for a six-month fitness challenge. I continued my fast walk in the opposite direction, but that sign just stayed on my mind.
I still remember what finally motivated me to sign up for the challenge. It was a ten-minute period in which my son threw his spaghetti plate straight up, sending noodles and sauce flying everywhere. As soon as my husband got home,I said, “You’re in charge.”
I made a beeline for the gym, marched straight in and said, “Fix me.” And I was assigned a young and fit trainer, Emily. She asked what my goals were for the six-month challenge. At that moment, I was speechless. Noticing my embarrassment, Emily just handed me the heaviest weights I had in my life and said, “Okay, so in six months you will compete in a body-building show.” I tried explaining, “No, I don’t want to do a show. That sounds scary.” She ignored my fear, and we jumped into strict workouts and nutrition planning.
Over the next six months, Emily forced me to focus on myself — my wants and my needs. I learned to see food as strength and sweat as progress. I learned how to fuel my body instead of starving it, balancing proteins, carbs, and fats. Emily pushed me past my limits, correcting my form, timing my breaks, and cheering me on when I wanted to quit. I improved every day in the gym.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
One day, Emily handed me an application form.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Soon, I jumped into weeks of preparation.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
One day, Emily handed me an application form. “You’re ready,” she said with a confident smile. It was for a local body-building show, the very thing I’d once feared. My heart raced as I looked at the form, but then I thought of all the progress I'd made. I took a deep breath and filled it out, determined to face my fear. I knew this was a chance to prove to myself that I could achieve something I never thought possible.
Soon, I jumped into weeks of preparation. Every day, I spent hours in the gym, following Emily’s strict workout plan. I also paid close attention to my diet, making sure I got the right nutrients. As the show day drew near, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. But with Emily’s constant encouragement and support, I felt more and more confident. Finally, the big day arrived, and I stepped onto the stage, ready to show the world what I’d accomplished.

当主语是由all of、most of、some of、half of、a part of、the rest of等接名词或代词,或由“分数/百分数+名词或代词”构成的短语作主语时,谓语动词的单复数形式取决于名词或代词的单复数。
成双成套的复数名词如glasses、scissors、shoes、trousers、pants、gloves、stockings等作主语时,谓语动词通常用复数;但如果复数名词前面有a/the pair of、a/the suit of 等词语修饰时,谓语动词则用单数。

B.To compare mobility and flexibility.

Another person’s enthusiasm was what set me moving toward the success I have achieved. That person was my stepmother.
I was nine years old when she entered our home in rural Virginia. My father 1 me to her with these words: “I would like you to meet the fellow who is distinguished for being the worst boy in this county and will probably start throwing rocks at you no 2 than tomorrow morning.”
My stepmother walked over to me, 3 my head slightly upward, and looked me right in the eye. Then she looked at my father and replied, “You are wrong. This is not the worst boy at all, 4 the smartest one who hasn’t yet found a way of expressing his enthusiasm.”
That statement began a 5 between us. No one had ever called me smart. My family and neighbors had built me up in my 6 as a bad boy. My stepmother changed all that.
She changed many things. She 7 my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with honors. She moved our family into the country seat, where my father’s career could be more 8 and my brothers and I could be better 9 .

What power 14 has! When that power is freed to support the certainty of one’s purpose and is 15 strengthened by faith, it becomes a powerful force which poverty and defeat can never match.
You can communicate that power to anyone who needs it. This is probably the greatest work you can do with your enthusiasm.
