Why would anyone go to Camp Green Lake? Camp Green Lake is a camp for bad boys. If you take a bad boy there and make him dig holes in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy. That was what some people thought.
Stanley Yelnats was given a choice. The judge said, “You may go to prison, or you may go to Camp Green Lake.”
Stanley was from a poor family. He couldn’t believe his terrible luck when a pair of expensive shoes hit him on the head. What’s worse, he was

caught by the police for stealing them—even though he did nothing wrong! Now, instead of going to prison, he found himself at Camp Green Lake. But as Stanley looked around, he saw no lake—just dry land everywhere in the hot sun.
On his first morning, Stanley was taught to use the shovel(铁锹) at once. By noon, Stanley’s hands were red and hurt badly. Just when he wanted to stop, his shovel hit something hard—a small old bone! His heart beat fast with joy as he showed it to Mr. Pendanski, the counselor(辅导员). But the man just didn’t care. “Not what we need. Keep digging,” he said. Stanley felt disappointed.
首页
That night, tired and in pain, Stanley lay on his bed looking at the stars through the tent. He thought about his family and how they must miss him. Then he understood one thing—at least he wasn’t locked up. Maybe, just maybe, he could get through this. For the first time since coming here, Stanley felt a little bit hopeful.

Zhao Xintong was born in Shenzhen, China. In 1997, he started to learn snooker(斯诺克) at the age of seven. Unlike most children who always play games, he spent hours practicing. His mother noticed his talent and allowed him to focus on snooker, even though many people doubted this. ①
In 2025, Zhao achieved something unbelievable. He won the World Snooker Championship by beating three-time champion Mark Williams 18-12. He was the first Chinese player to make it. Fans loved his fast, attacking style and calm attitude(态度) under pressure. ②
首页
However, his road to success was not always smooth. In 2023, Zhao was not allowed in the game for 20 months after a match-fixing scandal(假球丑闻). Before that, he had shown his great skills in many matches. It was a dark time, but he didn’t lose hope. He trained harder and returned in 2025. Surprisingly, he won four challenging matches before reaching the final. Over 150 million people watched his final match on TV, breaking the record before. ③
Young players like Bai Yulu, the women’s world champion, also look up to him. “He taught me to stay focused,” she said. “Never give up, even when
首页
things seem impossible,” Zhao told reporters. His words encourage children to follow their dreams. Zhao said he was proud of himself and hoped his win would give children in China confidence to try snooker. ④
Actually, the popularity of snooker has been growing in China since 2005, when Ding Junhui beat Stephen Hendry. There have been over 300,000 snooker clubs in China. Zhao’s win will likely push the sport to be even more successful. Some schools now add snooker to their programs, with some even building special training rooms.
Zhao is now a national hero. Many call him “the new pride of Chinese snooker”.

①Microplastics(微塑料) are one of the largest environmental problems we face. Most microplastics come from larger pieces of plastic as they break apart. They are really harmful to the environment as well as the health of animals and humans.
②However, it is really hard to clean up microplastics. They are small bits of plastic less than 5 mm long. Because of their size, they are difficult to clean up. This is especially true for microplastics in the ocean. Besides, they are nearly everywhere. They’ve been found in the ocean, on the top of
首页
mountains, in some of the food we eat and even in the stomachs of some ocean animals.
③What should we do with microplastics?
④The good news is that scientists at Sichuan University in southwestern China have made great progress in dealing with microplastics.
⑤A kind of small robotic fish has been invented to help deal with the microplastics in water. They are programmed to make their way through water collecting microplastics as they go. Though these swimmers are only 15 mm long, they can travel very quickly as they clean. Wang Yuyan, a
首页
member of Sichuan University’s research team, said the robotic fish could be controlled by light. As they swim along, any nearby microplastics get drawn towards them and stick to them.
⑥There is another special thing about the robotic fish. The ideas about their shape and the material they are made out of come from ocean life. The team use the material from the inside of shells(贝壳) to make their robotic fish. As well as attracting microplastics, the material can even heal(治愈) itself after being cut.
首页
⑦Since the team has shown that their idea works, they are going to keep working on it. The scientists hope that their tiny fish-shaped robots will be able to help deal with this global problem. They hope in the future they can create new kinds of robotic fish that can work in deeper waters and collect more microplastics.
首页
( )9. What can we learn about the robotic fish?
A. They are tiny and swim slowly.
B. They are controlled by electricity.
C. They have the ability to heal their cuts.
D. They can collect microplastics in deep waters.
C

( )10. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing Paragraph 2?

B. To show us microplastics are everywhere.
C. To tell us people are worried about microplastics.
D. To explain why it is difficult to clean up microplastics.
D

( )11. What can we infer about the robotic fish now?
A. They are too big to move quickly.
B. They cannot be controlled by light.

Ⅲ. 概要补全。(每小题2.5分,共10分)
It was a windy afternoon. No one was sitting on the park bench(长凳). I went over and sat down. I was so disappointed with my life.
Just then, a young boy walked up to me and stood in front of me. In great excitement, he said, “Look at what I found!” He had a dying flower in his hand. Then he sat down next to me and put the flower near his nose. He said, “It smells good and it’s beautiful, too. That’s why I picked it. It’s for you.”
The flower was all dried out for too much sunlight. But I knew I must take it. If not, he might never leave. So, I reached for the flower, and said, “Thank you. It’s just what I need.”
首页
But he didn’t put the flower in my hand right away. He still held it in the air. It was then that I noticed that the boy was blind. What a poor kid! My eyes were wet.
He put the flower in my hand carefully and smiled, “You’re welcome.” With joy on his face, he left.
I wondered how he knew I was there and how he knew about my sadness. Perhaps in his heart he had true sight(视力). For all of those times I myself had been blind towards the world around me. I realized my problem was not with anybody, but with myself.
首页
Then I held that flower up to my nose and breathed in the fragrance(香气) of a beautiful rose. I decided and promised to value every second that belongs to me.
Book Report: “A Special Flower in the Wind”
This story touched my heart deeply. It tells about a sad day that turned into a life lesson.
One windy afternoon, 18 , feeling hopeless about life. Suddenly, a blind boy ran to him with a dying flower. The boy couldn’t see, but he gave the flower to the writer, saying it was beautiful and smelled nice.
18. ________________________________________
the writer sat alone on a park bench
首页
At first, 19 , but when he realized the boy was blind, he felt shocked and sad.
The blind boy taught the writer an important lesson: 20 , not the eyes. Though the flower looked dry, it still 21 . This made the writer understand that he had been “blind” to the beauty around him. In the end, he promised himself to value every moment of his life.
19.
20.
21.
the writer didn’t care about the flower
true sight comes from the heart
had a sweet smell/smelled nice
首页
Why I love this story:
1. It shows kindness can come from unexpected people.
2. It reminds us to find beauty in simple things.
3. The blind boy’s happiness changed someone’s life.
This story is short but powerful. It teaches us to “see” the world with love and hope. I highly recommend it to everyone!
