In the late 1940s, it was common to see young students practicing table tennis on a chalk-drawn table on the sidewalk at night. As a second-grader in a primary school, I began my journey with table tennis on such a table. Later, I became a player and then a coach of a national team, watching generations of players contribute to the success of table tennis.
Recently, at the age of 84, I received a national honorary title. I said, “Choosing to play table tennis is a decision I totally do not regret.”
During times when we didn’t have much, I even made my own bat (球拍). I would buy old photo frames made of plywood (胶合板) from stores, and then turn them into bases of bats, I would then attach rubber (橡胶) to make a simple bat. I recalled, “The ‘clang’ sound of hitting the ball with such a bat was very satisfying.
I formed a team called Red Flag at school. During holidays, we played friendly matches with ping-pong fans from nearby factories and schools. I often visited different places, where I could watch high-level players and learn from them.
In a competition held in 1961, I won third place in the men’s table tennis singles event. I also won the first-ever men’s doubles and mixed doubles championships for our team. In 1975, I became the head coach of the women’s table tennis team in my country. Under my guidance, the team always won the women’s singles title in competitions.
One of the outstanding athletes I discovered and trained became an extremely good table tennis player. Though she was short, she could see every ball coming her way as an opportunity. This allowed her to launch (发起) more attacks than others. Moreover, she had a strong desire to win and trained very hard.
24. What inspired the author to begin playing table tennis?
A. His love for making rubber bats.
B. International competitions on TV
C. Encouragement from his school coach and friends.
D. The sights of students playing on chalk-drawn tables.

C. Difficulty of finding partners. D. Long distance between his home and tables.
26. What do we know about the author according to the last three paragraphs?
A. He introduced table tennis as an Olympic sport. B. He won his best honour in his seventies.
C. He trained the women’s team for his country. D. He led the men’s team to get many world titles.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Art of Making a Bat. B. My Journey with Table Tennis
C. The Comment on a Table Tennis Champion D. My Process of Shaping the Future of Table Tennis

In the modern era, mirrors often show physical images (形象) as well as the mental struggles of self-awareness, especially among teenagers. The glass surfaces, found in bedrooms and bathrooms around the world, have seen the silent battles that many young individuals face.
Appearance anxiety has become a widespread issue, with social media and peer pressure acting as magnifying glasses (放大镜) that mislead them about their self-worth. Filtered (滤镜处理过的) photos posted on platforms like TikTok have created an environment where seeking perfection seems not just desirable but necessary. To make matters worse, the strong desire for the perfect appearance has led many teenagers to make unhealthy comparisons, often resulting in negative self-talks and more worries about their looks.
The deep-rooted problem can affect mental health in particular. Studies have shown that teenagers who are overly concerned with their looks are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, and low self-confidence. The pressure to be up to beauty standards is huge, and it often begins at a young age. The seemingly perfect images in magazines, on television and social media platforms create an unrealistic standard for teenagers to measure themselves against. Unfortunately, it can lead to a lasting state of dissatisfaction with their looks.
To solve the problem, it is important to understand that beauty is not a one-size-fits-all concept. It varies from person to person. We ought to encourage teenagers to accept their unique features and to understand that their worth is not defined by their looks. Parents, educators, and society as a whole have a role to play in developing a more acceptable and positive view of beauty. We are also supposed to teach young people that the journey towards self-acceptance is just as important as acquiring great knowledge and developing other skills.
28. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning “mirrors” in paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To provide examples.
C. To show his argument. D. To make comparisons.
29. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A. Mental struggles of teenagers. B. Problems faced by teenagers.
C. Causes of teenage appearance anxiety. D. Effects of social media on teenagers.
30. What is a result of teenage appearance anxiety according to the text?
A. Teenagers are not satisfied with beauty standards.
B. Teenagers are more likely to suffer mental problems.
C. Teenagers are more likely to have poor physical health.
D. Teenagers are not satisfied with social media platforms.
31. What does the writer try to do in the last paragraph?
A. Call on parents to understand young people better.
B. Encourage young people to acquire more knowledge.
C. Inspire teenagers to develop as many skills as possible.
D. Give advice on how to deal with teenage appearance anxiety.
D
I had to say something after reading The Anxious Generation. It is going to sell well, because Jonathan Haidt is telling a scary story about children’s development many parents are led to believe. However, the book’s repeated suggestion that digital technologies are reshaping our children’s brains and causing the epidemic (流行病) of mental illness is unsupported by science. Worse, the rude proposal that social media is to blame might distract us from effectively responding to the real causes of the current mental health crisis in young people.
Researchers have searched for the effects suggested by Haidt. The efforts have produced a mix of no, small and mixed associations (联系). When associations over time are found, they suggest not that social media use predicts or causes depression, but that young people who already have mental health problems use such platforms more often or in different ways from their healthy peers.
Several analysis and systematic reviews concentrate on the same message. An analysis done in 72 countries shows no measurable associations between well-being and social media globally. Moreover, studies from some authorities find no evidence of intense changes associated with digitaltechnology use.
As a psychologist studying children’s and adolescents' mental health, I appreciate parents’ frustration and desire for simple answers. As a parent of adolescents, I would also like to identify a simple source for the pain this generation is reporting. There are, however, no simple answers. The beginning and development of mental disorders are driven by a complex set of genetic and environmental factors.
More young people are talking openly about their mental health struggles than ever before. But not enough services are available to address their needs. In the United States, there is, on average, one school psychologist for every 1,119 students. We have a generation in crisis and in desperate need of the best of what science and evidence based solutions can offer. Unfortunately, our time is being spent telling stories that are unsupported by research and that do little to support young people who need, and deserve, more.
32. According to the text, what is presented in The Anxious Generation?
A. Scary children's stories.
B. Children’s brain disorders.
C. Gamechanging digital technologies.
D. A wrong cause for young people’s mental illness.
33. What does “the same message” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Many countries do research on mental health.
B. Well-being and social media are closely related.
C. The young are faced with the mental health crisis.
D. Social media don’t necessarily cause mental illness.
34. Which of the following can be inferred from paragraphs 4 — 5?
A. Mental struggles cannot be identified.
B. Mental health remains a private issue.
C. Psychological support is badly needed.
D. Research can't support young people in crisis.
35. The text is intended to________.
A. defend the use of social media
B. save a generation in mental crisis
C. recommend a potential best-seller
D. look into the issue of mental health

How to Break a Phone Addiction
Nearly everyone knows that it is possible to become addicted to digital devices. The average smartphone users rarely go two hours without using their device, unlocking their phone 50 or more times a day.
____36____. It is associated with depression and anxiety. It targets lonely people. And 26 percent of car accidents in the US today are due to the use of smartphones while driving.
But in a world of electronic payments (电子支付), digital documents and remote work, a truly smartphone-free lifestyle is becoming less and less practical. ____37____. This isn’t just a matter of setting screen-time limits you can easily break. Rather, you can start to develop specific habits to replace the unhealthy ones that keep sending you back to your phone. Here are three practices you might find effective.
●____38____.
A good deal of device overuse can be blamed on (归咎于) its mindlessness (不用心). The best way to act against mindless watching is to be mindful. Set times each day or week to look at your smartphone and really focus on it. Don’t do anything else; be all about the phone for those minutes, as if it were your job.
● Turn off your alerts
Most addictions are associated with dopamine (多巴胺), which governs desire. Smartphones increase dopamine, mainly through the sounds indicating that someone messaged or mentioned you and you must look right now to satisfy your curiosity.
The solution is simple: ____39____.
● Physically separate yourself.
If you’re trying to eat healthier, a common piece of advice is to avoid having junk food in the house. ____40____. My personal strategy is to charge my phone in the kitchen instead of the bedroom. It’s a habit, and as a result, I never miss my phone when I am going to sleep.
A. Make time for watching.
B Device addiction is harmful.
C. Set time limits for your daily screen browsing.
D. The same idea applies to the phone.
E. But breaking phone addiction isn’t so hard.
F. A better way is to manage addictive behaviour through proper use.
G. If you have a smartphone turn off all of the alerts except for the important ones.

The Transformative Power of Solo Travel
Solo travel, considered by many as the ultimate form of self-discovery, has gained immense popularity among young adults in recent years. Unlike group tours ____56____ everything is arranged, traveling alone pushes individuals out of their comfort zones, forcing them to confront unexpected challenges.
Statistics show that the number of solo travelers under 30 ____57____ (increase) by 150% since 2015. What drives this trend? Psychologists suggest that young people, growing up in an increasingly digital world, ____58____ (pursue) authentic experiences that social media cannot provide. When you're alone in a foreign country with no one ____59____ (rely) on, every decision — from navigating public transportation ____60____ ordering food in a local dialect — becomes a lesson in independence.
However, solo travel isn't without risks. Seasoned travelers recommend ____61____ (research) local customs thoroughly beforehand. In certain Middle Eastern countries, for instance, women traveling alone are expected to dress modestly to avoid unwanted attention. Failure ____62____ (respect) cultural norms may lead to serious consequences.
Ultimately, those ____63____ have experienced solo travel often describe it as life-changing. The challenges overcome and perspectives gained tend to have ____64____ profound impact that no classroom education can match. As travel writer Pico Lyer once remarked, “We travel initially to lose ourselves; we travel next to find ourselves.” Perhaps this explains ____65____ more young people are choosing to embark on journeys alone, seeking not just destinations, but transformations.

It was a sunny Sunday morning. Tom and his best friend Jack decided to go hiking in the nearby mountain. They had been looking forward to this trip for weeks, having heard so much about the mountain’s beautiful scenery—lush forests, clear streams, and panoramic views from the top. They packed some water, snacks, a map, and a compass, and set off early in the morning.
The first hour of the hike was wonderful. They walked along the well-marked path, chatting and taking photos of the beautiful flowers and birds they encountered. However, as they ventured deeper into the mountain, they got distracted by a small waterfall and wandered off the main path. When they realized their mistake, they couldn’t find any familiar landmarks. The map seemed useless without reference points, and Tom began to feel worried—he remembered his parents’ warning about staying on the designated trails.
Jack, who was always calmer in difficult situations, said, “Don’t panic. Let’s think logically. Rivers and streams usually lead to villages or main roads. We can follow that small stream downstream; it should take us somewhere safe.” Tom agreed, and they started walking along the stream’s bank. As the afternoon passed, the sun began to set, painting the sky orange. The temperature dropped quickly, and they started to feel cold and tired.
Just when they were on the verge of giving up hope, they heard a voice calling their names in the distance.

Filtered (滤镜处理过) photos posted on platforms like TikTok have created an environment where seeking perfection seems not just desirable but necessary.
A 29. C 30. B 31. D

故选A项。

由第三段中“The deep-rooted problem can affect mental health in particular.
D 33. D 34. C 35. B
根据第一段中的“However, the book’s repeated suggestion that digital technologies are reshaping our children’s brains and causing the epidemic (流行病) of mental illness is unsupported by science.(然而,书中反复提到数字技术正在重塑我们孩子的大脑,并导致精神疾病的流行,这一观点没有得到科学的支持。)”
根据第二段“When associations over time are found, they suggest not that social media use predicts or causes depression, but that young people who already have mental health problems use such platforms more often or in different ways from their healthy peers.(随着时间推移,他们发现社交媒体的使用并不是预测或导致抑郁症,而是已经有心理健康问题的年轻人比健康的同龄人更频繁地或以不同的方式使用这些平台。)”,第三段第一句“Several analysis and systematic reviews concentrate on the same message.(几项分析和系统综述都集中在同一个信息上。)”以及第二句“An analysis done in 72 countries shows no measurable associations between well being and social media globally.(一项在72个国家进行的分析显示,全球范围内幸福感和社交媒体之间没有可衡量的关联。)”
根据第四段中的“The beginning and development of mental disorders are driven by a complex set of genetic and environmental factors.(精神障碍的开始和发展是由一系列复杂的遗传和环境因素驱动的。)”以及第五段第一句“More young people are talking openly about their mental health struggles than ever before.(比以往任何时候都多的年轻人公开谈论他们的心理健康问题。)”和第二句“But not enough services are available to address their needs.(但现有的服务不足以满足他们的需求。)”
根据文章第一段中的“However, the book’s repeated suggestion that digital technologies are reshaping our children’s brains and causing the epidemic (流行病) of mental illness is unsupported by science. Worse, the rude proposal that social media is to blame might distract us from effectively responding to the real causes of the current mental health crisis in young people.
B. Device addiction is harmful.
C. Set time limits for your daily screen browsing.
D. The same idea applies to the phone.
E. But breaking phone addiction isn’t so hard.
F. A better way is to manage addictive behaviour through proper use.
G. If you have a smartphone, turn off all of the alerts except for the important ones.

根据下文“It is associated with depression and anxiety. It targets lonely people. And 26 percent of car accidents in the US today are due to the use of smartphones while driving.(它与抑郁和焦虑有关。它针对的是孤独的人。如今,美国26%的车祸是由于开车时使用智能手机造成的。)”可知,本段是在讲述对手机上瘾的危害,所以此空应该引起下文,讲述手机成瘾的危害,选项B“设备成瘾是有害的”符合语境。故选B。
【37题详解】
根据上文“But in a world of electronic payments, digital documents and remote work, a truly smartphone-free lifestyle is becoming less and less practical.(但在电子支付、电子文件和远程工作的世界里,一种完全没有智能手机的生活方式变得越来越不切实际。)”和下文“This isn’t just a matter of setting screen-time limits you can easily break. Rather, you can start to develop specific habits to replace the unhealthy ones that keep sending you back to your phone.(这不仅仅是设置屏幕时间限制的问题,你可以很容易地打破这些限制。相反,你可以开始培养特定的习惯,来取代那些让你不断回到手机上的不健康习惯。)”可知,上文提到完全摆脱智能手机的生活越来越不现实,下文则提到了一些具体的方法来摆脱对手机的依赖,所以此空应起到承上启下的作用,说明下文要介绍一些方法,选项F“一个更好的方法是通过正确使用来管理成瘾行为”符合语境。故选F。
【38题详解】
根据下文“A good deal of device overuse can be blamed on (归咎于) its mindlessness (不用心). The best way to act against mindless watching is to be mindful. Set times each day or week to look at your smartphone and really focus on it.(设备过度使用的很大一部分可以归咎于它的心不在焉。对抗心不在焉的观看的最好方法就是专心。每天或每周设定时间看手机,并真正专注于它。)”可知,本段主要讲的是要留出专门的时间来看手机,选项A“留出时间来看手机”符合语境。故选A。
根据上文“Most addictions are associated with dopamine (多巴胺), which governs desire. Smartphones increase dopamine, mainly through the sounds indicating that someone messaged or mentioned you and you must look right now to satisfy your curiosity. The solution is simple.(大多数成瘾都与多巴胺有关,多巴胺控制着欲望。智能手机会增加多巴胺,主要是通过声音表明有人给你发信息或提到你,你必须马上查看以满足你的好奇心。解决办法很简单。)”可知,本段主要讲的是要关掉手机的提示音,选项G“如果你有一部智能手机,关闭所有提示信号,除了重要的那些”符合语境。故选G。
【40题详解】
根据上文“If you’re trying to eat healthier, a common piece of advice is to avoid having junk food in the house.(如果你想吃得更健康,一个常见的建议是避免在家里放垃圾食品。)”和下文“My personal strategy is to charge my phone in the kitchen instead of the bedroom. It’s a habit, and as a result, I never miss my phone when I am going to sleep.(我个人的策略是在厨房而不是卧室给手机充电。这是一种习惯,因此,当我睡觉的时候,我从来不会想念我的手机。)”可知,上文讲的是避免在家里放垃圾食品,以戒掉对垃圾食品的依赖,下文讲的是避免把手机带进卧室,以戒掉对手机的依赖,所以此空应起到承上启下的作用,说明对垃圾食品的做法同样适用于手机,选项D“同样的想法也适用于手机”符合语境。故选D。

根据时间状语“since 2015”可知,句子应用现在完成时,主语为the number of solo travelers,助动词用has。故填has increased。

故填a。

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

They turned around and saw a group of hikers led by a local guide. The guide waved at them warmly and said, “We noticed your backpacks earlier and guessed you might be lost.” Tom and Jack felt a rush of hope. The hikers shared their warm clothes and snacks with the boys, and their kindness gave Tom and Jack the courage to keep going. With the guide leading the way, they walked along a narrow but safe path. The journey back to the mountain entrance was filled with laughter and stories, turning a scary experience into a memorable one.
When Tom and Jack got home safely, they told their parents about the experience. Their parents hugged them tightly, relieved that they were unhurt. Tom said to his parents, “It was Jack’s calmness and the hikers’ help that saved us.” This adventure taught the two friends that friendship and kindness are the most precious gifts in life. They also promised to always stay on marked trails during hikes. From then on, they often joined hiking groups, hoping to help other lost hikers as they were helped.
