Many people love parrots because they are colorful and can “talk”. Some parrots can say over 100 words! But how do they learn to talk? Parrots don’t really understand the words like we do. They are very good at copying(模仿)sounds. They hear people talk and then they try to make the same sounds.
Parrots are social(群居的)animals. In the wild, they live in large groups and use different sounds to “talk” to each other. When a parrot lives with people, it thinks the people are its group. So, it tries to copy the sounds of its new “group” to be friendly.

Last year, our class had a science lesson about bees. At first, I was scared of bees because they can sting(蜇人). But our teacher, Mr. Chen, brought a small glass box with some bees to class. He told us bees are very important for us.
“Bees help flowers grow fruits and vegetables,” Mr. Chen said. “They fly from flower to flower and carry pollen(花粉). Without bees, we wouldn’t have many foods like apples, strawberries, or even coffee!”
He also told us that bees are in danger now. People use too many chemicals(化学品)on plants, and bees are losing their homes. This made me sad.
Then, Mr. Chen showed us how bees work together. Every bee in a hive(蜂巢)has a job. Some look for food, some take care of baby bees, and some protect the hive. They work as a team.
After that lesson, I changed my mind. I am not so scared of bees now. I even helped my dad plant some flowers in our garden to give bees more food. I learned that every animal, even a small bee, is important to our world.

Do you know that cats have lived with people for over 10,000 years? Scientists think wild cats started to stay near human villages to eat mice. People were happy because the cats helped protect their food. Slowly, cats and people became friends.
Today, cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. But cats are very different from dogs. Dogs are like students—they listen to people and follow rules. Cats are more like independent(独立的)friends. They come to you when they want to, not when you call them. They spend a lot of time cleaning themselves and sleeping.
Cats are also great hunters. Even pet cats like to chase(追赶)toys. This is because their wild cousins need to hunt for food. A cat’s body is perfect for hunting: they can see well in the dark, run very fast, and jump very high.
Having a cat can be good for people, too. Studies show that playing with a cat can make people feel relaxed and happy. The sound of a cat’s purr(呼噜声)is even good for people’s health!
Cats are amazing animals. They are not just pets; they are our history partners and quiet friends.
36. Why did wild cats start to stay near people long ago?
A. To get food from people. B. To eat mice around villages.
C. To find a warm place to sleep. D. To play with human children.
37. How are cats different from dogs according to the text?
A. Cats are more independent. B. Cats are better at following rules.
C. Cats listen to people more. D. Cats are more like students.
38. What is NOT true about a cat’s body for hunting?
A. It can see well in the dark. B. It can swim very well.
C. It can run very fast. D. It can jump very high.
39. What is a good thing about having a cat?
A. It can help you do homework. B. It can make you feel relaxed.
C. It can teach you how to hunt. D. It can talk to you.
40. What is the best title for the text?

The Elephant
I want to introduce the elephant. It is a very large and strong animal. Elephants live in Africa and Asia. They have long noses called trunks and big ears.
Elephants are smart and have good memories. They can use their trunks to drink water, pick up food, and even say hello to friends. They live in families and help each other. Sadly, elephants are in danger because some people want their ivory.
I choose the elephant because it is amazing but needs our protection. We must not buy ivory things and should help protect their homes. Let’s be friends to these gentle giants.
