4 Collecting rubbish can save the life of an animal. Pick up any plastic bag. Plastic of any kind, fishing line, and anything that can be mistaken for food by animals are harmful to wildlife. They can trap(卡住) and even kill them.
Never buy products from endangered animals. When traveling to a foreign country, shopping overseas, or shopping in your local area, never buy gifts or products that support the illegal wildlife trade, or are from animals in danger.

Zhang Peidong from the Ocean University of
China has spent the past 17 years on one thing:
planting “grass”. This special grass, known as
seagrass, grows in the ocean. It helps clean the air
by taking in carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) and provides food for many sea animals.
首页
11
Starting in 2008, Zhang’s team studied how seagrass grows in coastal waters. They bravely went into cold water and carefully recorded every small change of the seagrass. “When does seagrass produce flowers and seeds(种子)? When do the seeds fall off? And when do they start to grow?” Zhang asked. To find out the answers, they did many experiments and never gave up.
Zhang said the biggest difficulty in restoring(修) seagrass beds is planting the seeds in the right place. “We usually plant the seeds at 1 to 1.5 cm deep in the soil,” said Zhang. “If the seeds are placed too deep, they can’t grow easily, while if they are too near the surface, the water might wash them away.”
首页
12
To help the seagrass grow faster, the team came up with new methods. Every June, they collect young seagrass plants and grow them in pools. By the end of September, they move the young plants to the ocean floor.
Thanks to their efforts, there is now more seagrass in the ocean. This has made the water cleaner and brought more animals to the area. For Zhang’s team, every tiny plant is a step toward making the sea healthy again. They believe that even small actions can make a big difference for the future of the ocean.
