As soon as Lily got home, her mother's eyes fell on the small puppy. She looked surprised and frowned, saying she didn't like keeping pets. Lily quickly explained how she found the puppy in the cold alley and begged her mother to let it stay. Seeing Lily's sincere look, her father smiled and agreed to keep the puppy temporarily. Moved by their kindness, Lily's mother finally nodded, and they cleaned the puppy gently.
A week later, the once-frightened puppy had become an important part of the family. It was no longer shy and would wag its tail happily when seeing family members. Lily often played with it after school, and her mother even prepared delicious food for it every day. The puppy brought lots of joy to the whole family, making their home warmer. Lily learned that kindness could create beautiful warmth, and she would cherish this lovely little friend forever.

独白(第17-20题)
People sometimes mix Australia up with New Zealand because they are neighboring island countries in the Pacific Ocean. But in fact, their histories are very different. New Zealand first had a native group called the Maori—they were the first people to live there, as far back as the 14th century, well before the British first arrived around 1770. The British then gained control over the country in 1840, which started a war between the new European groups and the native Maori people. Today, New Zealand is an independent nation with its own government and laws, where people live in relative peace and freedom. About 18% of the total population is Maori, and they have mixed culturally with non-native people. All people in New Zealand now call themselves Kiwi, as a term of pride for their country. New Zealand is famous for its love of rugby, its mountainous scenery, and its great educational system.

Tips on What to Eat for the DASH
DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension)(高血压) is a flexible(灵活的) and balanced eating plan that helps create a heart healthy eating style for life. I have always remembered the moments spent with my great-grandmother, Memmie, the person I admire most in this world.
Memmie was born in 1909 — a time marked by the construction of the Titanic and a world still five years away from the outbreak of World War I. She fanned, raised three children, and still found time to run a small cafe. Everyone in that little town looked up to her with respect, but to me, she was simply Memmie.
When I was little, I knew that Memmie was old. It wasn't her aging hands that gave her away; it was her confidence and straight-talk. She always said exactly what she thought. Sometimes I felt a bit afraid, yet I still knew she loved me. My sister and I were free to dig through Memmie's basement(地下室). This freedom to me was around was like her way of saying "I love you". I'd open those drawers, and my 10-year-old heart raced with excitement, wondering what treasures I might find. We read Reader's Digest, and I tried on dresses with white gloves that smelled like mothballs(樟脑丸), I was connected to a different time.
Memmie was always the oldest person I knew, and my sister and I tried to find out her secret to a long, healthy life. "It must be all the organic(有机的) vegetables she was growing up," my sister said. I didn't think so. Then, one day, we decided to ask her. We sat next to her, waiting to take notes. Without hesitation, she replied, "Don't worry so much." Huh. I had expected a bigger answer, but this was Memmie. Always truthful and to the point. Sadly she left us later that year.
Growing up, I often watched my great-grandmother live with a serene grace, deeply accepting the present and finding pleasure in every moment. It's a gift she has passed on, and now I try to remember every day.
24. Why does the author mention the Titanic and World War I?
A. To show Memmie's interest in history.
B. To compare Memmie's life with the author's.
C. To explain why Memmie could live a long life.
D. To introduce the historical period Memmie lived in.
25. What does the underlined phrase "nose around" in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Explore. B. Smell. C. Get through. D. Check in.
26. Which of the following can best describe Memmie?
A. Strict and humorous. B. Curious and outgoing.
C. Positive and hardworking. D. Worried and truthful.
27. What's the "gift" Memmie has passed on according to the author?
A. Family love. B. Accepting the present.
C. Healthy eating. D. Speaking your mind honestly.

An increasing number of travelers are actively looking for vacations free from the continuous demands of technology. These "digital detox" retreats, often located in natural settings far away, require guests to leave their smartphones and other devices alone upon arrival. The primary goal is to encourage guests to be fully present, connecting with their surroundings and fellow travelers without digital distractions.
A recent market research showed that over 60% of people questioned under 35 would consider a holiday that limits screen time. As a result, the tourism industry is changing to adapt to this. So a new travel trend has appeared. Numerous travel companies now specialize in such experiences, offering activities like guided hiking, meditation, and workshops on traditional crafts—all designed to fill the time once covered by screens.
However, some experts question the long-term effectiveness of these short disconnections. They argue that the advantages might disappear quickly once travelers return to their daily lives, which are often structured around digital tools. True change, they suggest, requires changing one's relationship with technology in the long run, not just escaping it for a week.
Despite the debate, people who take part in questionnaire often report positive results. Many describe feeling a significant reduction in anxiety and a renewed ability to focus on single tasks. The experience, for them, isn't about quitting technology forever, but about resetting their digital habits.
28. What causes the tourism industry's active change to adapt to digital detox vacations?
A. The popularity of traditional craft workshops.
B. The rising demand reflected in market research.
C. The encouragement from many travel companies.
D. The proven success of such retreats in improving health.
29. Why do some experts question digital detox vacations?
A. Their positive effects may not be lasting.
B. They fail to provide enough related activities.
C. They are too expensive for most people to afford.
D. They force people into an uncomfortable lifestyle.
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. The short break offers a valuable chance for reflection and rest.
B. The debate over the effectiveness of digital detox is likely to continue.
C. The industry should create more diverse packages to attract customers.
D. Digital detox vacations are the only solution to technology dependence.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The best places for a peaceful vacation.
B. The influence of social media on tourism.
C. The growing trend of digital detox vacations.
D. The mental health problems caused by digital devices.

第二节 读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a cold December afternoon. Lily, a 16-year-old high school student, was walking home from school alone. The wind was blowing, and snowflakes were dancing in the air, covering the roads and trees with a thick white blanket. She pulled her coat tightly around herself and quickened her steps, anxious to get back to the warmth of her home.
As she passed an old alley near her neighborhood, she heard a faint whimpering sound. Curious but a little frightened, Lily hesitated for a moment. The sound was soft and weak, like that of a small animal in trouble. "Should I check it out?" she thought to herself. Her parents had always told her not to talk to strangers or go into dark alleys, but the pitiful sound touched her heart.
She took a deep breath and walked slowly into the alley. The snow was deeper here, and the wind seemed to blow even harder. After walking a few steps, she found a small, shaking puppy huddled behind a pile of old boxes. Its fur was covered with snow and dirt, and its eyes were filled with fear and helplessness. The puppy looked at her weakly. She knelt down and gently reached out her hands. The puppy didn't move in the slightest, but then slowly moved closer and licked her hands.
Lily knew she couldn't leave the poor puppy alone in the cold. But she also worried: her mother disliked animals, and her father was always busy with work. Would her family agree to keep it? With a determined look, she wrapped the puppy in her scarf and held it tightly in her arms. She hurried home, hoping that her parents would understand her decision.
