How many things do you have at home that you hardly ever use? Maybe you have a drill (电钻) you bought for a DIY project but never used again, a cooking set you used just once for a party, or a tent you had gotten for a camping trip—before you found you don’t like camping!
Wouldn’t life be easier if we could just borrow things like these when we need them and then give them back, instead of having to buy and keep them? That’s the idea behind a new app from France that connects people who have things they aren’t using with other people who might want to borrow or rent (租用) these things.
The app is called Poppins. It was founded by Lucie Basch. Before this, she created another popular app named Too Good to Go. That app helps people buy low-priced extra food from nearby restaurants and shops. Like the food app, Basch’s new Poppins app helps people find things they need from neighbors. The idea is that people can save money and space by renting things when needed.
It’s also good for the Earth, because by making more use of fewer things, we can reduce waste and save resources (资源). And of course, people with things they’re not using can make some money by renting those things out—or they can be kind and share for free!
Poppins was launched (推出) in France in April, 2025. It will be launched in Belgium in 2026, and in the UK in either 2026 or 2027.
11. Who created the Poppins app?
A. Lucie Basch, who also created Too Good to Go. B. A restaurant owner in France.
C. A team from Belgium and the UK. D. Someone who likes DIY projects.
12. According to the text, how can Poppins help the Earth?
A. By planting more trees in cities. B. By helping restaurants sell more food.
C. By reducing waste and saving resources. D. By encouraging people to buy new things.
13. Which of the following is TRUE about Poppins?
A. It was first launched in the UK in 2025. B. It was already available in France and the US in 2025.
C. By now it only allows people to rent things for money. D. It helps people save money and space by sharing things.
14. What might be the writer’s attitude towards the idea behind Poppins?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Uninterested. D. Passive.
15. Here’s a picture taken from the homepage of Poppins. Which is probably the missing slogan?
A. Own less, have more B. Open mind, less stress C. Our energy, your journey D. Give time, lend hands

Many Chinese learners find it hard to write and memorize Chinese characters. However, Lena, a 20-year-old American student, sees them in a special way. To her, each Chinese character tells its own story.
In Lena’s eyes, Chinese characters look like different objects. The character “ren” (meaning “person”) seems like a cat’s mouth, “ceng” (meaning “once”) looks like an angry robot, and the traditional form of “wu” (meaning “nothing”) reminds her of a sheep.
This March, Lena tried to draw Chinese characters for the first time and shared her creative drawings online. To her surprise, they spread quickly and received 40,000 likes overnight, sparking (引发) discussions about language, art, and cultural exchange.
Some say Lena seems to understand the beauty of Chinese characters even better than many Chinese people. “It’s because you all are used to seeing the characters,” she said, adding that the opposite is also true. For example, she learned from her Chinese friends that the popular Internet word “orz” looks like a person kneeling (跪下) and bowing, but in English, it carries no meaning.
Lena prepares to share more drawings online. Her story shows that language is more than just words—it’s about connection and seeing the world through someone else’s eyes. That’s also the spirit behind UN Chinese Language Day, celebrated on April 20. “This day encourages people to examine their own language in new ways and discover its creativity and beauty,” said Lena. She also advises Chinese learners around the world to communicate more with Chinese people. “It’s not only fun but also a great cultural exchange.”
16. What does Lena think of Chinese characters?
A. They are too difficult to remember. B. Each character has its own story.
C. They are easier to read than to write. D. They’re more popular than English.
17. What does the character “wu” look like in Lena’s eyes?
A. B. C. D.
18. How did Lena feel after receiving 40,000 likes overnight?
A. She was proud. B. She was upset. C. She was nervous. D. She was surprised.
19. Why can Lena find the beauty in Chinese characters?
A. Because they’re new to her. B. Because she’s used to seeing them.
C. Because her mother is a Chinese teacher. D. Because she has talent in art.
20. What is the purpose of UN Chinese Language Day?
A. To compare Chinese with other languages. B. To celebrate Chinese history and traditions.
C. To teach people how to write Chinese characters. D. To encourage people to discover the beauty of Chinese.
【答案】16. B 17. C 18. D 19. A 20. D

Along the hallway. I saw mixed expressions on the faces of my students—excited, nervous and worried. No doubt about it—the kids were this term’s freshmen. My own first day at high school flashed into my mind.
Since our family had just moved to the place, I didn’t know anyone at the school. On arriving, I picked up a map and my schedule. Oh, my goodness, what a large school it was! Nervously, I looked around for where my first class was to be held.
When I finally found my first class, everyone was talking and laughing together, and I felt so lonely. Throughout the day, each class brought some new faces I had not seen before. But when my English class came around, I had a surprise—an old classmate! It was Ben, who had left my middle school right after the eighth grade. We talked and joked about the middle school life and the clubs we were in together. I felt a little relaxed.
Next was the P.E. class. This was the first class that I found without difficulty. Sitting through the boring introduction to the class by the teacher, I started talking to a girl sitting near me. I found out that her family had just moved here too, and she didn’t know anyone, either. As we talked, we discovered that we had a lot in common, and had a lot of classes together. This girl ended up becoming my friend. I was so glad that I met her.
By the end of that day, I was full of optimism. I knew that high school would be an amazing experience.

阅读下面短文,完成63-66小题。(共10分)
The White Cliffs of Dover are located in Dover, in southeast England. Every year, lots of people come to visit them, making them a very popular destination for tourists.
The White Cliffs are mostly made of a soft, white rock called chalk (白垩). It is a type of limestone (石灰岩) that was created from the tiny skeletons (骨骼) of sea life. Over millions of years, these tiny skeletons piled up and were pressed together to form chalk rock. Later, movements of the Earth pushed this rock up above the sea, creating the white cliffs we see today.
These cliffs and the land around them are a special place for wildlife. Many types of plants grow there, including some rare ones that like the chalky soil. You might see beautiful wildflowers blooming in the spring and summer. The cliffs are also home to many animals. For example, the peregrine falcon, one of the fastest birds in the world, can sometimes be seen hunting near the cliffs.
However, the White Cliffs are always changing because of natural erosion (侵蚀). Wind, rain, and the waves slowly wear away the soft rock. Over time, pieces of the cliffs can break off and fall into the sea. While erosion changes the shape of the cliffs, it also helps to keep them looking white, as new layers (层) of chalk are exposed.
Despite this, the cliffs never lose their charm. To fully enjoy them, head to South Foreland Lighthouse, which is located on the cliffs and offers amazing views. If you have more time, there are many other interesting places around the White Cliffs to visit, such as Fan Bay Deep Shelter and Dover Castle.
43. How was the white rock formed?

【43题详解】
根据“It is a type of limestone (石灰岩) that was created from the tiny skeletons (骨骼) of sea life. Over millions of years, these tiny skeletons piled up and were pressed together to form the chalk rock.”可知,白垩岩由海洋生物骨骼堆积压紧形成。故填It was formed from the tiny skeletons of sea life that piled up and were pressed together over millions of years.
【44题详解】
根据“a very popular destination for tourists” 可知,多佛白崖是热门旅游目的地(对人类而言);再结合“These cliffs and the land around them are a special place for wildlife. Many types of plants grow there, including some rare ones...The cliffs are also home to many animals”可知,它还是众多植物(含珍稀种类)和动物的特殊家园(对自然而言)。因此多佛白崖对人类和自然都很重要。故填It’s a popular tourist destination and a special home for many rare plants and wild animals.
【45题详解】
开放性试题,言之成理即可。参考答案为I’d be more interested in the natural scenery because the white chalk cliffs have unique beauty and amazing views.

②根据“Wind, rain, and the waves slowly wear away the soft rock.”可知,侵蚀因素包括风、雨和海浪。空格处应填入“wind, rain”。故填wind, rain。
③根据“there are many other interesting places around the White Cliffs to visit, such as Fan Bay Deep Shelter and Dover Castle.”可知,空后的“Fan Bay Deep Shelter, Dover Castle”是多佛白崖附近有趣的地方。“interesting places”符合题意,句首单词首字母需大写。故填Interesting places。

【答案】例文
Should teenagers be allowed to manage their pocket money?
Last week, our school did a survey about managing pocket money. 65% of the students say yes. They believe it helps them become more independent and learn to use money wisely, like saving for books or small gifts. However, 35% of the students disagree. They worry that managing money on their own will make them waste it on useless things and develop poor money habits.
In my opinion, teenagers should learn to manage pocket money. This is a useful life skill that will help us a lot in the future.

C To teach people how to write Chinese characters. D. To encourage people to discover the beauty of Chinese.
C
