Taking the 2a reading passage about good books and reading experiences as the core, it guides students to sort out key information, and combines reflection tasks to review unit knowledge, strengthening comprehensive language application and helping students summarize learning experiences and reading insights.
Student Learning Situation Analysis:Based on the first four periods, students have mastered the unit’s vocabulary, grammar and basic reading skills. They can finish simple reading tasks but are weak in sorting out reading information and reflecting on learning, needing guidance to improve summary and reflection abilities.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Review the key words and phrases from the previous lesson.
2. Introduce the topic of this lesson: vocabulary in use and the reading log project.
Step 2 Work on 2a
1. Ask students to look at the nouns in 2a and change them into adje-ctives by adding the appropriate suffixes(-al, - ish, - y,-ful,-ous, or - ive).
2. Encourage students to add other adjectives with the same suffixes.
3. Check the answers together and explain the usage of each suffix. The answers are:-ous-mysterious, dangerous; - ful-painful, helpful; - y-funny, lucky; - ive-effective, active; - ish-selfish, foolish.
Step 3 Work on 2b
1. Write“attack” on the blackboard with two example sentences(Aliens attack the earth./ We stopped the attack.), then teach students to judge if the word is a verb(action) or noun (thing/ concept) by its sentence role.
2. Ask students to label the underlined words in the follow exercise as N/ V, and then share answers(1. V;N 2. N;V 3. N;V 4. V;N 5. V;N).
Step 4 Work on 2c
1. Discuss:“What do you know about Journey to the West?”
2. Students read the passage and fill in blanks with correct word forms (e. g., base →basis).
3. Pair check and review as a class.
Step 5 Work on 3a
1.Workon3ad The Old Man and the Sec ro report and label parts (A-E).2. Class discuss each part's purpose.
Step 6 Work on 3b and 3c
1. Students use the 3b table to take notes on a read novel.
2. Draft a report (3c) and exchange for peer feedback (structure,details).
Step 7 Work on 4a,4b,4c and Reflecting
1. Groups brainstorm English books for a reading log and explain choices.
2. Write a reading log (use the Hamlet example in 4b).
3. Groups present logs and answer questions.
4. Reflect: Have students reflect on the reflection questions, then guide them through answering.
Step 8 Summary
Summarize the key points of this lesson, including vocabulary conversion, part-of-speech judgment, and the structure of a book report.Also, review the requirements and steps for the reading log project.
Step 9 Homework
Ask students to complete their book reports and reading log entries.
