Version 1(133词)
Ancient Building Guardian Day
Last Saturday, the Student Union successfully organized the “Ancient Building Guardian Day” on campus, aiming to raise the awareness of cultural preservation among students.
As scheduled, the event began with an interactive lecture delivered by Mr. Zhang, a local historian, who illustrated the unique wooden bracket systems of Ming Dynasty buildings. Afterwards, participants engaged in a hands-on workshop and formed teams to create detailed architectural models. The highlight was a virtual reality tour, allowing students to wear VR headsets to "walk through" the ancient structures in an immersive way.
This activity received warm feedback. The event masterfully combined academic learning with cutting-edge technology, transforming abstract concepts into tangible understanding. Not only did students gain knowledge, but they also felt a stronger sense of responsibility and inspiration to become protectors of our shared heritage.
Version 2(142词)
Ancient Building Guardian Day
With the purpose of cultural heritage protection, the Student Union launched the “Ancient Building Guardian Day” last Saturday at the historic Qinghe Temple.
As scheduled, the day featured a guided tour in which the professional guide showed students special parts of the temple, like the cleverly designed wooden brackets under the roof and explained the site’s architectural significance. After that, students participated in a cleanup session around the temple grounds, carefully picking up leaves and rubbish. The most memorable part was the on-site drawing activity, where they captured the building’s beauty with pencils and paper.
The event was highly spoken of. Not only did the firsthand experience deepen their connection to history, but it also inspired their responsibility to preserve the ancient architecture. It proved to be a perfect blend of learning and action, leaving everyone motivated to safeguard our cultural legacy.

In 2006,as a 10-year-old living in one of Delhi's busiest markets,I would often
run downstairs to buy milk, eggs or vegetables for my mother. The shopkeepers knew
me by face and often guessed my order before I even spoke. These small market runs
taught me more than I realized at the time-quick mental maths, conversations with
strangers, and backup plans when a shop was shut.So much accidental learning.
高英语试题第2页共12页
Over time, these habits became daily comfort.Whether it was me or my mother,
we enjoyed the smiles, short chats, and treats along the way-small moments that
quietly held our lives together.
Now,things are different.With Blinkit,Zepto,and Instamart,goods arrive in 10
minutes. While I still enjoy shopping in the market after work,my mother begins her
day by comparing prices on apps and ordering everything with a few clicks. The
shopping trips that once lifted her spirits, improved her health, and helped her stay
connected with the neighbourhood have disappeared. The pleasure of being known,of
connecting,is dying.
And it's not just her. Many of us now depend more on apps and less on people.
Our growing dependence on immediate delivery is reducing those everyday moments of
connection. There's the money cost, too. When you're too tired or too busy to plan your
shopping, you end up ordering in pieces-adding things you don't need just to hit the
free-delivery limit.
Of course, these apps are a gift on tough days when we're sick or short on time.
But next time you feel like opening a shopping app,try walking to your local shop
instead. You might come back with more than just goods-a smile,a quick chat, and a
sense of connection.Sometimes, the cost of convenicnce isn't what you pay. It's what
you miss.
24.What does the author think of early market runs?
A.Adventurous.
B.Challenging.
C.Tiring.
D.Valuable.
25.How did the author's mother change her shopping habit later?
A.She turned to online shopping.
B.She visited stores with neighbours
C.She cared about discounts in stores.
D.She ordered whatever lifted her spirits
26.What concerns the author about quick delivery?
A.It takes away small social moments.
B.It leads to poor physical condition.
C.It makes people addicted to shopping.D.It requires paying extra service fees.
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Rush breaks human connection.
B.Convenience comes at a cost.
C.A shared gift doubles its pleasure.
D.A smile is free but worth a lot.

Picture this, you win two tickets to a sold-out concert and excitedly text to ask your
friends if they'd like to join. There comes their reply "Maybe."Your feeling
immediately turns, for you need to wait for their decisions before you can finalize
your plans for the concert.
If you've experienced anything like this.you're not alone.People saying "maybe"
to invitations is a common but annoying part of social life. What goes on in people's
heads when they aren't sure whether to accept an invitation?Social invitations can be a
tough dance.Peoplc often misread what someone sending an invitation wants to hear
and got it wrong about an inviter's preference for a"maybe"over a "no".Moreover,
they fail to realize how much more disrespected people feel when they receive a
"maybe"to their invitation.
Naturally,we wanted to work out why this awkward dance of indecision plays out.
We found that it's largely because of something called“motivated reasoning."(动机性
Motivated reasoning happens when a person understands information in a biased
(有偏差的)way to meet their own wishes. In other words, invitees persuade themselves
that inviters want to hear "maybe"instead of"no"because a"maybe"is better for the
invitees, allowing them to leave their choices open.Besides, people often worry too
much about what will happen if they say "no"to invitations, thinking it will upset
inviters.
However, there are certain situations that make people more comfortable saying
"no"to an invitation. When receivers of an invitation put themselves in the shoes of the
person giving the invitation, they are more likely to realize that they'd probably prefer a
clear answer. When people get invited to do something they don't want to do,they have
no interest in keeping their choices open. The motivated reasoning then becomes
pointless.
While dealing with social situations can be tough, being direct and clear is
sometimes best.It might reduce your choices. But it'll keep those who invite you from
being left uncertain and maybe they'll still think of you when the next concert comes to
town.
28.Why is the concert story mentioned at the beginning?
A.To introduce a common social situation.
高一英语试题第4页共12页
B.To stress the importance of quick replies
C.To encourage immediate decision-making
D.To explain the background of the invitation
29.What is the main reason for a"maybe"reply to an invitation?
A.A desire for smooth communication.B.A biased understanding of social clues.
C.An undervalue of the refusal results.D.A sense of the inviter's expectation.
30.What is the author's suggestion in the last paragraph?
A.Keeping your choices open for better plans.
B.Accepting invitations to keep friendships.
C.Valuing a clear answer over open choices.
D.Thinking twice before refusing an invitation.
31.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Mindset behind "Maybe"
B.The Hidden Effect of"Maybe"
C."Maybe":A Polite Escape from Troubles
D."Maybe":A Wise Solution to Invitations

Every winter, salt becomes a hero.Local officials spread it on streets and highways
to keep traffic running,Since salt lowers the ice point of water,it prevents ice from
forming and making the roads dangerous. Now,it turns out it can also offer a way to
keep your house safe and in great shape,too-all you need to do is place bowls of salt
by the windows.
The enemies here are wet and mold ()which can make their way into your
house through the windows. When temperatures drop, and one side of the glass is colder
than the other, small drops of water form.Since you're likely to be heating your home,
the warm air meets the cold glass and cools down, letting out the moisture (it
contains and turning it into small drops. These drops can then run down and make
things wet, creating the perfect conditions for mold.
This recommendation to leave bowls by your windows first started making rounds
in the UK.The idea is simple:Salt takes in wetness from the air.Simply fill a flat bowl
or a small jar with some salt-this can be table salt or rock salt. The amount (you
use will be different, depending on the size of the window you're placing it next to.Of
高一英语试题第5页共12页
course,generally speaking,the larger the window,the more salt you'll need.
However, the salt shouldn't be left alone to do all the work. After all, salt only
begins to take in moisture at very high humidity ()To really deal with the problem,
the circulation of air is key.You can simply open the window to let the air in and out.If
your bathroom has an air exchange fan, turning it on after a shower can help a lot.Air
exchange helps to prevent water drops from building up on the cold glass,to a great
degree, preventing you from needing to place bowls of salt by the windows.
32.Why are bowls of salt advised to put by the windows in winter?
A.To fix up the house.
B.To prevent mold growth.
C.To keep windows clean.
D.To make the room wetter.
33.What can be inferred about using salt bowls from paragraph 3?
A.Larger bowls are always better.
B.The British are advised to do so.
C.It is a more affordable method.
D.The salt should be in proper amount.
34.What does the underlined word"circulation"in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Quality.
B.Temperature.
C.Movement.
D.Wetness.
35.What does the last paragraph imply about placing salt by the windows?
A.It is best at taking in moisture.
B.It should be considered as an aid.
C.It is convenient for household.
D.Its actual effect remains unknown.
