One day, a student was walking with a teacher and they saw a pair of old shoes. They thought the shoes might be the poor farmer’s, who was working in a field nearby. The student said to the teacher, “Let’s play a joke on the man. We can make him not find his shoes, and wait to see what he will do when he cannot find them.”
“My young friend,” answered the teacher, “we should never play a joke on others. Instead, put a coin into each shoe, and watch what will happen.”
The student did so, and hid nearby. Soon the farmer came back to get his shoes. When he put his feet into his shoes, he was surprised to find the coins and looked around, but no person was to be seen. He then stood on his knees, looked up to the sky and said thanks loudly. In the thanks, he spoke of his wife who was in poor health, and his children without bread.
The student stood there silently with his eyes filled with tears. “Now,” said the teacher, “aren’t you much more pleased?”
The young man answered, “You teach me a lesson which I will never forget. I really get the true meaning of the words that I have never understood before: It’s better to give than to receive.”

When we got in line, my hands started to get sweaty (满是汗的). I watched the coaster moving very fast, and I felt nervous. “Lily, I’m not sure if I can do this,” I said, my voice shaking a bit. Lily held my hand and said, “Come on! It will be a really fun thing to remember.”
