He Jiang made history by becoming the first Chinese student to make a graduation speech at Harvard University This was a significant moment when a voice from China was projected onto one of the world’s most influential academic stages.
His speech opened with a childhood story from a small village in Hunan Province. After a spider bite, his mother treated it with a traditional folk method using fire, because there were no doctors nearby. Later, at Harvard, where he studied biochemistry, he realized that heat could stop the proteins (蛋白质) in the spider’s poison from working. But the memory of the pain stayed with him, showing the unfair situation in world science and medicine. This painful memory drove him to major in medicine, determined to improve healthcare for people in rural (乡村的) areas.
After graduating from one top Chinese university, he entered Harvard. In the speech, he thanked his family for helping him develop a strong will and work hard in his studies. His father, whose own chances were limited by little schooling, always stressed the importance of education, while his mother’s steady support helped him through difficult times.
It was with this toughness that he finally won the speaking honor through a strict three-round competition involving writing and speech tests. Adapting to a new culture and language was challenging at first, but he gradually found his place by taking part in campus life. His speech skillfully combined his own story into a universal call for sharing knowledge.
Today, as a researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) studying diseases, He Jiang continues to build bridges by writing in English about rural China, aiming to build deeper global understanding of his homeland. “I want more voices from China to be heard,” he said. His journey perfectly shows this goal, proving how an individual story can share a nation’s voice in the world’s conversation.
24. Why did He Jiang begin his speech with the spider bite story?
A. To describe his childhood in a small village.
B. To give advice on the unfair global situation.
C. To share a traditional treatment of spider bite.
D. To explain the reason why he studied medicine.
25. Which of the following best describes He Jiang?
A. Talented but uncaring. B. Adaptable and humorous.
C. Intelligent but unfortunate. D. Determined and responsible.
26. What does He Jiang hope to achieve through his current work?
A. To speed up development in rural China.
B To promote global understanding of China.
C. To make achievements in medical research.
D. To encourage more students to study medicine.
27. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Overcoming Challenges: A Chinese Student at Harvard
B. Winning a Speech: Success in an Academic Competition
C. Connecting Worlds: A Journey Through Science and Story
D. Bridging the Gap: Between Traditional and Modern Medicine
D 25. D 26. B 27. C

Breakfast is important for teenagers since it provides the energy the brain and body need to function through the day. Therefore, as educational psychology (心理学) researchers who seek to improve how students learn, we focus on breakfast, a factor that students may have some immediate control over and schools could quickly deal with.
In our project, we studied 648 Australian high school students with an average age of 13-14 years from five private schools in New South Wales. First, students completed an online survey of their breakfast habits, which we classified (分类) as healthy or unhealthy according to national dietary guidelines. Second, students reported their motivation in science lessons, including how much they valued the subject and were focused on learning. Third, they did a test of their science knowledge.
We found students who ate a healthy breakfast showed higher levels of motivation and scored higher results in the test. In comparison, students who ate no breakfast had lower levels of performance. Unexpectedly, students who had an unhealthy breakfast just scored as low as those who had no breakfast. We didn’t dig into specific reasons for this, but it’s likely that the wrong kinds of foods do not properly fuel the mind or body for what is needed to be ready to learn.
Our findings stress the importance of students eating a healthy breakfast every morning. Schools can help ensure this by offering a healthy breakfast to students. But schools need to be mindful of the problems that keep students from having a healthy breakfast. For example, when a school-provided breakfast is free, some students may not want it if it is seen as only for kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is also worth recognizing that some students may not want to eat breakfast at school because of body image concerns. In addition, cultural and dietary differences may mean some foods are not acceptable for some students.
Thus, a small and relatively achievable change in a student’s life — a healthy breakfast each day — can have a positive effect on learning.
28. Why did the researchers conduct the study?
A. To find a way to help students learn. B. To provide students with breakfast.
C. To solve schools’ teaching problems. D. To improve students’ physical health.
29. What did the students do in the project?
A. They had an interview. B. They provided school reports.
C. They took a science test. D. They classified different foods.
30. Which finding surprised the researchers?
A. Healthy food helped students concentrate in class.
B. Skipping breakfast led to poor scores on the science test.
C. All kinds of food helped improve students’ performance.
D. Unhealthy breakfast had the same effect as no breakfast.
31. What should schools consider when offering breakfast to students?
A. Students’ cultural roots. B. Students’ family income.
C. Students’ favourite foods. D. Students’ learning anxiety.
A 29. C 30. D 31. A

Today, people are surrounded by digital devices (电子设备), yet one sense remains largely absent when using the devices: the sense of touch. While sight and sound have advanced greatly in the virtual (虚拟的) world, touch has fallen behind, depending mostly on simple vibrations (震动). Now, a research team from Northwestern University has developed a new wearable device that may change this.
The device, called VoxeLite, is a thin, strip-shaped wearable that goes around a finger. It contains a group of tiny points that can produce gentle electrical signals. These signals create a feeling of texture (质地) on the skin, allowing users to “feel” objects in digital environments. For example, when looking at photos online, one could actually feel the material of clothes. In digital games, users might feel the soft fur of a virtual pet or the pull on a fishing line when a fish bites. More importantly, the device may also help blind people use apps with greater ease.
The research explains that the device achieves “human-like” touch by carefully arranging the points under the fingertip. VoxeLite is designed to be haptically transparent. Weighing less than a gram, it is thin enough to be worn all day without being noticed. “We see it working like everyday glasses, which people wear all day without much thought,” says Sylvia, a Ph.D student on the team, expressing hope for a natural, easy-to-use device.
“I’m most excited to see what new forms of digital communication we can create with this new form of sensing.” Sylvia mentions, “Just as development in sight and sound reshaped our daily lives, I wonder how improvements in touch will change it further.”
Although VoxeLite is still in its early stages, it points to a future where the distance between the physical and digital worlds keeps growing smaller. It can help build a kinder, more connected digital world that links everyone more closely.
32. What is the main purpose of VoxeLite?
A. To create vibrations for digital devices.
B. To take the place of common wearables.
C. To bring touch experience into digital world.
D. To improve picture quality in online shopping.
33. How might VoxeLite help blind people?
A. By making games more fun with sounds.
B. By teaching them different kinds of life skills.
C. By letting them feel feedback from digital tools.
D. By enabling them to view pictures clearly online.
34. What do the underlined words “haptically transparent” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Light. B. Soft. C. Smooth. D. Clear.
35. What may Sylvia agree with according to paragraph 4?
A. The team will study other new senses besides touch.
B Touch technology could change how we connect online.
C. Digital communication might replace real-life connection.
D. Sight and sound are still more important in communication.

根据第四段““I’m most excited to see what new forms of digital communication we can create with this new form of sensing.” Sylvia mentions, “Just as development in sight and sound reshaped our daily lives, I wonder how improvements in touch will change it further.(“我最期待的是看看借助这种新型传感技术,我们能创造出怎样的新型数字通信方式。”西尔维亚说道,“就像视觉和听觉的发展改变了我们的日常生活一样,我好奇触觉方面的进步将会如何进一步改变我们的生活。”)”可推知,西尔维娅认为触觉技术能够改变人们在线沟通的方式。故选B项。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
For a while now, I’ve been trying to get my 7-year-old daughter to stop carrying her blanket (毯子) around all the time. I never understood why she seemingly needed it for EVERYTHING. Was she dealing with some kind emotional pain that I wasn’t aware of? ____36____ But after doing a bit of research, I was glad that wasn’t the case at all.
Children often form strong bonds (纽带) with “transitional objects” — a term psychologists use to describe things that help kids feel safe as they grow more independent. ___37___
A blanket smells, feels, and looks like home. It’s a source of comfort when everything else feels new or challenging. Children between ages 1 and 3 begin to experience short separates from parents, like childcare drop-offs, or sleeping in their own bed. A beloved blanket can work magic during these times and other tough days, or big changes. ____38____ Even when your child is much older, like mine, holding on to their blanket still serves as a comforting tool.
Should parents be concerned about blanket attachments (依恋)? ____39____ Blanket attachments are totally normal and often healthy. Many children begin to outgrow their attachment between ages 3 and 5, though some may keep a special blanket around for much longer, and that’s okay, too. ____40____ It’s their first love, first best friend, and first step toward learning to manage big feelings on their own. It’s comforting to know that as they grow and gain confidence, that blanket will naturally no longer be needed. But the lessons of self-comforting will stick with them for life.
A. In most cases, no.
B. I started to laugh at my daughter.
C. I was worried she was not “normal.”
D. Respect your child’s feelings, ALWAYS.
E. A blanket is one of the most common examples.
F. In fact, your child’s blanket isn’t just a piece of cloth.
G. That soft cloth provides a link to their parents and to safety.
C 37. E 38. G 39. A 40. F
根据前文“I never understood why she seemingly needed it for EVERYTHING. Was she dealing with some kind emotional pain that I wasn’t aware of? (我一直不明白为什么她似乎做什么事都需要这条毯子。她是不是正承受着我未曾察觉的某种情感痛苦?)”以及后文“But after doing a bit of research, I was glad that wasn’t the case at all. (但在做了一些研究后,我庆幸事实根本并非如此。)”中的But可知,此空应体现作者对女儿这种行为的担忧,担心其状态不正常,C选项“I was worried she was not “normal.” (我担心她的状态“不正常”。)”承接前文的接连发问,体现内心的担忧,且与后文的庆幸形成转折,符合语境。故选C项。
【37题详解】
根据前文“Children often form strong bonds (纽带) with “transitional objects” — a term psychologists use to describe things that help kids feel safe as they grow more independent. (孩子们常常会与“过渡性物品”建立紧密的情感纽带——心理学家用这个术语来描述那些在孩子变得更独立的过程中,能帮助他们获得安全感的物品。)”可知,前文介绍了过渡性物品的定义和作用,此空应举例说明毯子就是这类物品中最常见的一种,E选项“A blanket is one of the most common examples. (毯子就是其中最常见的例子之一。)”中的A blanket与前文作者女儿的毯子相呼应,且承接过渡性物品的话题,符合语境。故选E项。
【38题详解】
根据前文“A beloved blanket can work magic during these times and other tough days, or big changes. (一条心爱的毯子能在这些时刻、其他艰难的日子或是重大的变故中发挥神奇的作用。)”以及后文“Even when your child is much older, like mine, holding on to their blanket still serves as a comforting tool. (即便是当你的孩子长大很多,就像我的孩子一样,握着他们的毯子依然能起到安抚的作用。)”可知,前文说明毯子能给孩子带来慰藉,此空应具体说明毯子带来安全感的原因,即其是孩子与父母、安全感之间的联结,G选项“That soft cloth provides a link to their parents and to safety. (这块柔软的布料是孩子与父母、与安全感之间的联结。)”中的That soft cloth指代前文的A beloved blanket,且具体阐释了毯子的安抚作用,衔接后文的内容,符合语境。故选G项。
【39题详解】
根据前文“Should parents be concerned about blanket attachments (依恋)? (父母应该担心孩子对毯子的依恋吗?)”以及后文“Blanket attachments are totally normal and often healthy. (孩子对毯子的依恋是完全正常的,而且往往是有益身心的。)”可知,前文是提出疑问,后文给出了明确的答案,即家长无需担忧,A选项“In most cases, no. (在大多数情况下,答案是否定的。)”直接回答前文的问题,且引出后文的具体解释,符合语境。故选A项。
根据后文“It’s their first love, first best friend, and first step toward learning to manage big feelings on their own. (它是孩子的初恋,第一个最好的朋友,也是孩子学会独自应对强烈情绪的第一步。)”可知,后文阐述了毯子对孩子的特殊意义,并非单纯的物品,此空应点明这一观点,F选项“In fact, your child’s blanket isn’t just a piece of cloth. (事实上,孩子的毯子绝不仅仅是一块布。)”承接前文孩子对毯子的长期依恋这一内容,且引出后文对毯子特殊意义的阐述,符合语境。故选F项。

【57题详解】

【64题详解】
考查冠词。句意:这些尝试旨在恢复生态系统,为长江江豚等极度濒危的珍稀动物带来希望。表示特指“长江江豚”,应用定冠词the。故填the。
本句已有谓语动词is,所以support应用非谓语动词形式,此处为“be +adj. for sb to do sth.” 故填to support。

Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you an experience last week.
On Friday afternoon, I was playing table tennis in the school gym when I noticed a few students struggling with their game. I offered to help them, and we started practicing together. One of them suggested we form a small team for a friendly match. That’s how I met my new friends, Tom, Lucy, and Mike.
What impressed me most was that although we were all beginners, we encouraged each other and had a great time. This experience has taught me the value of reaching out and connecting with others, which I believe will make my high school life more enjoyable.
Yours,
Li Hua

A. To describe his childhood in a small village.
B. To give advice on the unfair global situation.
C. To share a traditional treatment of spider bite.
D. To explain the reason why he studied medicine.

B. Touch technology could change how we connect online.
C. Digital communication might replace real-life connection.
D. Sight and sound are still more important in communication.
