CHINA’S TOURISM INDUSTRY (2020-2024)
Chinese tourism is growing quickly, and the industry’s success goes hand in hand with the various travel purposes and the wider range of travelers. Let’s take a closer look.

·Data shows that retired people aged 65 and above (65+) are more interested in and involved in travel. 17.6% of middle-aged and elderly people take trips 3 or more times a year. This tells us that as life gets better, middle-aged and elderly people have more travel needs — they’re willing to spend time and money to experience culture and enjoy natural scenery.

Li Fugui, a 27-year-old tofu seller from Xinxiang, has become popular online in China for her videos showing her daily life of driving her small truck filled with goods like tofu, fruits, and snacks, directly to the doorsteps of those who need them most.
Every day, Li starts her day at the break of dawn, her arrival in each village announced with her call, “The tofu seller is here!” Many elderly villagers wait patiently, their faces lighting up as she approaches, not just for the goods she brings, but for the kind warmth she offers. She always rounds down prices, adds extra weight or gives free snacks, and even helps elders dry wheat.
On 9th August, 2025, she led 46 elderly villagers on their first trip away from the mountains they call home. The group spent the day watching five performances, and had their first-ever professional photos taken. “We have returned to these mountains, but their world is no longer limited to them,” Li reflected. “Life is not just farming and weeding. There’s more to life, and they shouldn’t be left behind.”
Fugui was born into a poor family with intellectually disabled parents, and a year after she got married, her marriage ended. What she had experienced taught her valuable lessons about the importance of standing on her own feet and shaped her personality to live a life of value.
“I think the elderly were the first to show me love. Sometimes it might just be a few words, a simple greeting. But that kind of warmth holds unbelievable power. I believe it’s something worth passing on to others.” She said when interviewed.

AI writing tools are everywhere these days. They say they can make writing emails faster and essays clearer. But a big question comes up: Should we really use AI to write our most personal ideas — the deep, emotional things we want to share with people we love?
In an ad, a father used Google’s AI product to write a thank-you letter to an athlete in 2024 Summer Olympics for his daughter. A large audience showed criticism, saying AI took away people’s real emotional moments and chances to grow. Even so, a lot of people still use AI for important writing — like wedding promises, and more.
In one way, this is understandable. The pressure to say the right words can be very big. When people are nervous and looking at a blank page, they often turn to AI as a safe choice. This isn’t because they don’t care — it’s because they care so much. In that kind of mood, why risk saying something wrong when AI gives an easy way out?
But personal connection isn’t always smooth or perfect — it’s often tough. The hard work of writing something like a goodbye letter, with all the effort to show sadness and love, is the part that helps us reach true feelings. Therefore, a good basic rule is to first write down your own first ideas and feelings on the page. Then — and only then — you can ask AI to help make it better, put it in order or change the words, if you need to. You can also use AI to help think of ideas, but the main thought and direction should still come from you. That way, you keep control, and AI just helps you express yourself more smoothly.
The most important thing is to actually finish writing it. After all, sharing your words with others is much more valuable than never opening up at all. As long as we stay careful and know what we’re doing when we use AI, it can be a strong tool to help us become better writers and express ourselves better.
8. What does the underlined word “criticism” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Fear. B. Support. C. Praise. D. Disagreement.
9. Why does the author say AI is a safe choice?
A. Because AI offers deep care. B. Because AI feels little pressure.
C. Because AI produces perfect text. D. Because AI helps avoid mistakes.
10. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. Emotional writing needs personal effort. B. AI contributes to reaching true feelings.
C. Personal connection is often easy to make. D. AI decides the main thought and direction.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Should we trust AI for writing?
B. Should we refuse AI in writing?
C. Does AI help beautify words or steal the soul?
D. Does AI promote creativity or limit imagination?
D
Imagine taking a long space trip with your pet. How do you both stay healthy in tough conditions like microgravity (微重力) and space radiation (辐射)? That’s where space-based animal research comes in.
On Oct 31, China’s Shenzhou XXI task was sent up with four mice on board. These mice were chosen for their great performance during 60 days of training. They passed tests, like riding an “exercise bike” and solving mazes (迷宫). After the mice return from the Shenzhou XXI spaceship, scientists will further study how space influences their bodies.
Huang Kun from the Chinese Academy of Sciences said, “Mice are ideal for space research because they share genetic (基因的) similarities with humans, need little room and reproduce quickly.” Also, given their short life, six months in space for a mouse is like over 10 years for a human. This allows scientists to know long-term space effects on humans in just months, rather than years, according to the Foundation for Biomedical Research in the US.
Internationally, sending animals to space began in the late 1940s to see if any life could survive the high rocket speeds or the weightlessness and radiation in space. Today, studies go beyond survival. “The animal work is helping us understand how to live a better life in space, making it a healthier reality, as well as helping us study a few diseases that influence us down on Earth,” Julie Dickie from King’s College London said.
For example, space is ideal for studying osteoporosis (骨质疏松), as microgravity causes bone loss 12 times faster than on Earth, said UCLA Health. In 2017, a study with 40mice on the International Space Station found a treatment that slowed bone loss and helped new bones grow, offering hope for keeping humans healthy both on Earth and in space.
Shenzhou XXI’s mouse mission is a key step in space research. Mice, as perfect research subjects, are essential partners in human space exploration.
12. Why are mice ideal for space research according to Huang Kun?
A. They can solve difficult mazes. B. They performed well in training.
C. They are genetically similar to humans. D. They can survive long-term space experiments.
13. How does the author develop paragraph 4?
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By explaining cause and effect.
14. What can be inferred from the study in 2017?
A. Osteoporosis can be completely cured. B. Microgravity is good for bone growth.
C. The treatment found can prevent bone loss. D. The treatment found may benefit human health.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. History of animal space experiments.
B. Significance of Shenzhou XXI’s mice mission.
C. Training process of Shenzhou XXI’s “mice astronauts”.
D. Mice’s advantages for space research over other animals.

The Best Memory
I helped my seven-year-old son, Hudson, out of the car, hardly containing my excitement. Hudson didn’t know it, but there was a surprise waiting inside. As the New Year was just around the corner, my husband Alan and I had prepared a new star decoration (装饰) for our living room — a new star as a holiday surprise. We hoped the new decoration would bring some joy to Hudson and might create a good memory for him. Alan had secretly set everything up while Hudson and I were out the day before. Hudson wasn’t like other kids. Due to his autism (自闭症), he often seemed distant, floating between the world I lived in and the one in his head.
When I opened the door to show the new decoration, Alan was ready to record Hudson’s reaction. My palms were slightly sweaty. I’d imagined this moment a dozen times, hoping the bright decoration would pull him a little closer to our world. “What do you think?” he asked. Hudson hardly looked at it. His face was as calm as ever, no joy or confusion showing. “New thing. Something different.” he said flatly.
I felt dissatisfied but tried to remind myself not to expect too much. Alan turned off the camera, and we began to do the new decoration together. Hudson watched for a while, and then went off to the corner of the room. I followed him, interested. To my surprise, Hudson was holding a small, old star decoration — something I had made with him years ago. “Where did you find this?” I asked, surprised. He didn’t answer but pointed to where the new star was. “I want it to be here,” he said seriously.
注意:(1)续写词数应100个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
In that moment, I realized that the new decoration didn’t matter to Hudson.

【答案】Possible version (1):
I think “Step Out for Sports” is the ideal way to spend breaks, which perfectly fits our campus life and brings great benefits.
As senior students, we face heavy study pressure and sit for long hours in class. Taking sports during breaks helps us relax our tired minds and stretch our bodies. Whether it’s running, or just walking around the playground, it makes us full of energy. What’s more, regular exercise keeps us physically healthy, which is the foundation of a sound mind.
I do believe a healthy break is of great value to us.
Possible version (2):
I firmly choose “Stay In and Prepare”, which is more practical for senior students.
As we’re adapting to high school study, class content is getting more challenging. Staying in the classroom during breaks lets us review key points from the last class. This helps us follow teachers better and build confidence. Unlike sports that may make us tired, this quiet preparation keeps our minds focused, laying a solid foundation for learning. Moreover, it teaches us to manage time wisely.
In short, a useful break is truly a practical choice for senior students.

【答案】In that moment, I realized that the new decoration didn’t matter to Hudson. What mattered to him was the old star — a symbol of a moment we had shared. Watching him gently touching it, my eyes turned teary. Alan walked over quietly, smiling at us, and then moved the new star aside. “Do you want to hang it by yourself?” Hudson didn’t answer but started to place the star carefully. Alan and I watched him, smiling with quiet pride. “This is perfect, Hudson,” I said softly. “Perfect,” he whispered, the corners of his mouth lifting a little. Not until then did I realize that Hudson wasn’t refusing change — he was finding his own way to connect with the moment. For him, joy wasn’t in the new, but in the warmth of the memories we shared. I would treasure what Hudson brought me that day — the unexpected but the best memory.
