Celadon porcelain (青瓷) has a fascinating history known for its intricate (复杂精细) charm. It might seem far away from our everyday lives. Yet, this age-old art form is closely connected to the present day. We invited students to share their stories about celadon.
My mom loves the beauty of nature. She’d pick flowers from the yard, put them in a celadon vase and place them on the window, filling the whole house with life and warmth. Every time I saw the flowers, I felt a deep sense of peace and joy. We also have celadon bowls and plates. But my mom would bring them out only for guests. Food served in these special pieces always seemed to taste better, as if they added a touch of magic to every meal.
Qian Yuhao, 15
In Jingdezhen, I came across a celadon-making shop where I tried making celadon. First, I smoothed the porcelain clay. Then, using a rolling machine, I tried shaping it. It was too hard to control the machine. When I wanted to give up, my father came over and told me that only if I slowed down could I make a good piece of work. Taking a deep breath, I concentrated and finally made a wonderful celadon piece. This experience showed me how important it is to stay calm when making celadon porcelain.

Have you ever counted the number of remote controls (遥控器) in your home? There are probably more than you thought. That’s because they are used for all kinds of everyday activities, such as changing TV channels (频道) and opening doors. But how did they become such popular tools in our lives?
You may think that the remote control is a new piece of technology, but it actually dates back over 100 years. In 1898, the famous inventor, Nikola Tesla, showed what is considered to be the world’s first remote control in New York City. The first remote control was just a box with an antenna (天线). He used it to control the movements of a small boat. This early remote control could communicate with the boat using radio waves. Nothing else came of this first invention, but it served as the first step to the modern remote controls. Remote controls became common in homes around the world after the 1950s, when the Zenith Radio Company first paired them with TVs.
She is controlling the drones with a remote control.
Remote controls have come a long way since Nikola Tesla’s invention. Today, their importance spreads well beyond changing channels as they can be used for activities that are too dangerous for humans.
Remote controls are still being improved on, and now many common people can buy advanced (先进的) technologies like remote-controlled drones, which can take amazing photos and videos from on high. With the voice-operated (声控的) remote controls, we may soon be able to operate our phones without even touching them. So when it comes to remote controls, I look forward to something new that they will bring in the future.
32. What does the beginning of the passage mainly talk about?
A. The popularity of remote controls. B. The history of remote controls.

In modern education, English homework comes in different types to meet different learning needs. While some students enjoy creative homework, others prefer traditional homework. But here's the question: What really works best for learning? Different people have different ideas about it.
I really enjoy creative homework. Last week, I created a comic strip (连环漫画) about environmental protection in English—it was so much fun! When I drew a character throwing rubbish into a bin, I remembered the phrase “throw away”, Now, every time I see that comic strip on my wall, those words jump into my mind. This kind of homework helps me remember vocabulary naturally.
Kong Hua, a student
I'm different from Kong Hua. I prefer traditional homework. What I like most is that I can work quietly at my desk and check my answers alone—this is the only reason I prefer traditional exercises like grammar exercises. However, creative projects often require class presentations, which makes me feel stressed.
Li Rui, a student
As a parent, I believe homework should build basic skills first. My daughter sometimes spends three hours drawing for an English project when she can finish five grammar exercises in that time. Creative homework is fun, but learning words and grammar rules is very important.
Mr. Wang, a parent
Both types matter! Traditional homework helps students master the rules and remember words, while creative tasks develop students’ real-life skills. Next month, I’ll try a “Homework Menu”—students can pick traditional tasks and creative tasks weekly. I believe it will make homework time more enjoyable for students.
Mrs. Wei, a teacher
51. What creative homework did Kong Hua do last week?
She ______________________ last week.
52. Why does Li Rui prefer traditional exercises?
Because he can ____________________.
53. How long does Mr. Wang’s daughter sometimes spend drawing for an English project?
His daughter sometimes spends ____________________ drawing for an English project.
54. What does the underlined word “it” refer to?
It refers to “________________________”.
55. What kind of homework will you choose, traditional homework or creative homework? Why?
I will choose __________________, because ___________________.

/零冠词;A不定冠词;An不定冠词;The定冠词。根据“Wilson heard about a math contest”可知,contest是第二次出现,应使用定冠词。
故选A。
with和;for为;of……的;at在。根据第一段中“contest was only open to eighth and ninth graders”可知,这个比赛只是为八年级和九年级的学生准备的,应用介词for。
how can I do我可以怎样做;how I can do我可以怎样做;that can I do我可以做;that I can do我可以做。根据“you know that math is what I’m good at”可知,此处表示我认为我可以做得很好,应是that引导的宾语从句,用陈述句语序。

根据“‘It’s not fair! Why won’t they let me join in that contest?’”
根据“the rules”可知,动词change和主语the rules之间是被动关系,且can后接动词原形。故选A。

Celadon porcelain (青瓷) has a fascinating history, known for its intricate (复杂精细) charm.

例文
Dear Mike,
You must be excited about coming to China soon. I’d like to tell you some Chinese customs. First, when greeting others, we usually shake hands and smile. Second, at the dinner table, you should wait for older people to start eating first. Also, never stick chopsticks into your food. Third, when receiving a gift, use both hands to show respect. It’s polite not to open it directly. I believe knowing these will help you a lot. I’m looking forward to your visit. Have a pleasant journey and enjoy your time in China!
Yours,
Li Lei
