【职业内容】
(2026河北省雄安新区高三上学期1月期末英语试题)
Alex Williamson was just a teenager when he began a “part time” job working on Windermere Lake Cruises famous passenger vessels (船舰). He loves it so much that he’s still there after all these years and has earned the nickname “The Boat Doctor”, which has become a perfect match for what he does every day. He never fails to fix whatever problem there might be, anything from breakages, worn-out parts, to door handles. He hates the idea of any visitor being disappointed.
Alex started crewing vessels at sixteen and completed a six-year apprenticeship (学徒期) as a boat builder. His favourite vessels are the traditional wooden launches. “I see myself as their caretaker and won’t let them fall into disrepair on my watch.” One highlight was taking charge of the wooden launch “Queen of the Lake” during its transport to London for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. “It was a once in a lifetime event. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck sticking up!” says Alex. “To be part of history, I’ll never forget it!”
Things have changed a lot over the years. Technology on new vessels like MV Swift, which entered service in October 2020, is quite different from that on the heritage “steamers” like Tern, Swan and Teal. But Alex says he won’t change a thing about his life working on Windermere’s vessels.
John Woodburn, Operations Director for Windermere Lake Cruises, says, “Alex has always been hard working. He learnt his boat building skills from the ‘old hands’ and these traditional skills are almost a lost art. He has a rare talent for fixing boats.”
“I just love to see the excitement of passengers boarding. It’s magical,” Alex says. “Even on my day off, I often watch the boats — I have to slip around like a spy because if anyone from work sees me, they shout, ‘Can you come and fix this, Alex?’” And honestly, even on his days off, he probably would.
1.What does Alex’s nickname imply?
A.He is skilled at his work.
B.He likes building boats.
C.He is famous as a doctor.
D.He cares for visitors aboard.
2.How did Alex feel when he crewed “Queen of the Lake”?
A.Bored. B.Astonished.
C.Relieved. D.Thrilled.
3.Why are the technological changes on the vessels mentioned?
A.To indicate Alex’s success.
B.To show Alex’s commitment.
C.To describe Alex’s experience.
D.To display Alex’s love for technology.
4.How does Alex sound at the end of the text?
A.Strict. B.Ambitious.
C.Honest. D.Humorous.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.D

I felt the hairs on the back of my neck sticking up!” says Alex. “To be part of history, I’ll never forget it!”(一个亮点是在木质游船 “湖之女王号” 被运往伦敦参加泰晤士河钻石禧庆典期间负责它。“这是一生一次的事件。我感觉脖子后面的头发都竖起来了!” 亚历克斯说。“能成为历史的一部分,我永远不会忘记!”)”可知,亚历克斯在负责“湖之女王号”时感到非常激动。故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Things have changed a lot over the years. 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Even on my day off, I often watch the boats — I have to slip around like a spy because if anyone from work sees me, they shout, “Can you come and fix this, Alex?”(即使在休息日,我也经常看船 —— 我得像间谍一样溜来溜去,因为如果上班的人看到我,他们会喊:“亚历克斯,你能来修这个吗?”)”可知,亚历克斯的表述带有幽默感。故选D。

【社会问题和社会现象】
(2026山东省菏泽市东明县第一中学高三上学期1月月考)
Burnout coaches have become an increasingly visible presence across Canada, the US, Australia and Europe. Unlike licensed therapists or psychologists, the majority of these professionals, such as Jana Cook, bring personal experience to their work. Cook, who suffered two burnout episodes marked by trouble sleeping, extreme tiredness and difficulty with basic tasks, requiring up to six months of leave each time, now uses her recovery journey to help others as a burnout prevention and recovery coach. Typically certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), these coaches invest substantial time in researching workplace burnout and its causes. Other burnout coaches have taken courses in stress reduction techniques, mindfulness, even hypnosis (催眠术).
Burnout coaches employ a variety of strategies to help their burnout clients calm their nervous systems, which involves everything from deep breathing exercises to trigger point releases. Beyond the physical signs or symptoms, burnout coaches often guide their clients to make lifestyle changes, such as limiting emails in the evening and limiting how to say no. They can also assist burnout sufferers with planning a return to work after a stress leave, or help them plot a career change.
While working with a burnout coach may be helpful for some, said Houyuan Luo, a registered psychologist with MindPace Psychology in Toronto, it’s important to recognize that it is a new and unregulated industry. “The biggest problem with unregulated professionals is that they cannot be held accountable by anybody if something goes wrong,” Luo said. “People should know they also have the option of working with regulated professionals like psychologists, psychotherapists, or social workers, who are properly trained and are overseen by regulatory bodies that ensure quality and safety.”
Yet the rise of the burnout coach shows a growing societal awareness of burnout as a serious issue with far-reaching consequences. This awareness extends beyond individuals to corporations, where managers are increasingly recognizing the costs of unchecked burnout. In this way, burnout coaches fill a unique gap, offering accessible, experience-based support that complements (补充) the work of regulated professionals.

Passage 3
阅读理解七选五
(2026广东省河源市高三上学期1月期末英语试题)
One of the biggest benefits of continuing education is that it can improve one’s skills in a current job or help gain new skills in preparation for a career change. 1 So one must continue learning to be prepared for potential changes. This type of education is also critical for those who plan to switch careers or need cross-functional skills in a current job. Online learning and company training facilities have made it easier to further one’s education without the need to quit working.
Some employers require employees to learn new skills to maintain their current job or move to positions that require advanced skill levels. Companies that upgrade existing equipment or introduce a new computer program may ask employees to take a training course. 2 Many companies offer some kind of educational assistance program that can help cover a portion or all of one’s educational expenses.
If one is interested in joining a different career field, continuing education courses are critical for obtaining the necessary skills for the new career. Although some fields may have some overlapping (重叠) skills, others require an entirely different skill set. Depending on the prospective career, an entirely new college degree may be necessary. 3
Although continuing education is important for a job, there is another benefit of it. 4 For example, one can take courses to develop skills in a sport, foreign language, or musical instrument.
5 One can choose to take online courses or volunteer in a new field. Online courses make it easy for working professionals to update current skills and don’t require one to rearrange schedules or worry about travel costs.
A.Continuing education proves popular.
B.Necessary skills in many job fields can change over time.
C.Try out the field before turning to a formal educational program.
D.Continuing education also does not have to take place in a classroom.
E.Other employment fields may require continuing education to keep a license.

5.What can be inferred about Jana Cook from paragraph 1?
A.She only had physical signs.
B.Her symptoms appeared suddenly.
C.She recovered without professional help.
D.Her experience changed her career direction.
6.How do most burnout coaches gain qualifications?
A.By obtaining ICF certification.
B.By earning medical school degrees.
C.By passing government licensing exams.
D.By completing specialized training courses.
7.What does Houyuan Luo think of the burnout coaching industry?
A.Its professionals are all well-trained.
B.It is strictly regulated by official bodies.
C.Its service is more reliable than psychologists’.
D.It might be risky to work with its practitioners.
8.What is the most suitable title for the text?
A.The Clinical Treatment of Burnout
B.The Rise and Role of Burnout Coaches
C.The Dangers from Unregulated Coaching
D.Corporate Policies for Employee Wellness

F.Some take classes to develop a new interest or improve skills in a current hobby.
G.Other occupations may involve a certification program with field experience requirements.
