Step 2 Identify the form of infinitive to do(4a) (1) Ask students to read the sentences in part 4a together and circle the infinitive structures (to do/not to do) within them to perceive the usage of to do. What do you do in your free time? I play the flute to relax. How did you spend your weekend? I went to the sports centre to ice skate. How did you get into painting? I saw my mother paint. I decided to give it a go. What did your instructor say? She told me not to give up so easily. (2)T:What does the infinitive (to do) do in each sentence? And make the judgement clear: 1)Object complement: Explain the object, located after the object (structure: the predicate verb + object + to do); 2)Adverbial: Describe the purpose, often located at the end of the sentence.
