Four Remarkable Nature Reserves in China
These reserves highlight China’s devotion to biodiversity conservation, addressing challenges like loss of habitat and climate change through science-based management and international cooperation. For further details, refer to the linked sources.
Zhalong Nature Reserve
Located in Heilongjiang Province, Zhalong is one of the world’s most important wetlands, providing a year-round habitat for numerous bird species. Its abundant fish supply ensures easy access to food for migratory (迁徙的) and resident birds, such as red-crowned cranes. However, habitat loss has endangered many birds, prompting the Chinese government to strengthen conservation efforts to protect these species.
Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve
This reserve in Jilin Province features adormant (休眠的) volcano and Tianchi Lake, the source of three major rivers. Recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere (生物圈) Reserve, it preserves a unique complex ecosystem with over 2,500 plant species and rare animals like Siberian tigers. Its vertical climate zones range from temperate forests to alpine tundra (高山苔原), making it a “natural museum” of biodiversity.
Hengshui Lake National Nature Reserve
Situated in Hebei, Hengshui Lake is a vital wetland ecosystem supporting migratory birds such as swans and cormorants. The lake’s richfreshwater resources maintain both wildlife and local communities. Conservation efforts here focus on balancing ecological health with sustainable development, ensuring the protection of its weak water-based habitats.
Wuyi Mountain Nature Reserve
Famous for its subtropical forests in Fujian Province, Wuyi Mountain shelters endangered species like the Chinese giant salamander and golden monkey. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it combines geological wonders with cultural heritage, offering protected zones for rare animals and plants. Its dense forests and clean rivers witness China’s commitment to preserving natural landscapes.

When a car factory closed in a small American town, many lost jobs. With gas prices hitting $4 per gallon and floods damaging homes, the town fell into despair. A church youth group decided to spread kindness through simple acts of giving.
The teenagers raised $1,700 from their church. They bought 25 gas cards and roses to give to strangers. Before starting, the group prayed to “find people needing hope”. Twenty-five teens then drove around town in a church van
High school students gave roses to people gardening or walking. Middle schoolers stood at a gas station with free gas cards. Their rule was clear: “Wait until drivers start pumping gas before approaching.”
One moment touched everyone. Two 13-year-old boys noticed a young woman parked at a pump. She searched her purse and car desperately, then cried with her head on the steering wheel. The boys, following instructions, knocked gently on her window.
“Here’s a free gas card,” they said. “God loves you.” The woman burst into tears again. She explained she was a single mother heading to a crucial job interview. Her gas tank was empty, and she’d lost her last $10 bill. “I thought I’d miss my chance to feed my kids, “she said.
The boys returned with more gas cards and flowers. Though she initially refused, they insisted. “You’ve given me hope,” she said through tears. Later, the teens learned she got the job.
For 12 years, the group continues this tradition. “We always meet people who need love,” says a leader. The acts not only help receivers but teach teens the power of kindness. One participant said, “It shows how small actions can change lives.”
24. What inspired the youth group to start their kindness project?
A. To raise funds for their church. B. To gain popularity in the community.
C. To bring hope to people in despair. D. To address the problem of unemployment.
25. How did the single mother first react when receiving more gas cards?
A. She was impressed to tears but turned down the kindness.
B. She accepted gas cards and showed her gratitude.
C. She blamed the teenagers for disturbing her job interview.
D. She ignored the boys and continued complaining about her bad fortune.
26. Which words best describe the teenagers in the story?
A. Responsible but rude. B. Creative but impatient.
C. Selfless and grateful. D. Caring and helpful.
27. What message does the story mainly convey?
A. Natural disasters often lead to community unity.

I started my language learning with French. I studied French at high school, mostly with textbooks. At some point my family member recommended that I try Glossika. I decided to dig deeper into the way — looked into Glossika on Youtube — and I thought that this might really work for me. And I decided to give it a shot. At the beginning, it was a leap of faith (大胆一试) . I didn’t really pursue (继续学习) French beyond that. I found myself really wanting to start studying Chinese, so I changed Glossika from French to Chinese about three years ago.
I started learning Chinese for lots of reasons. My family member studied Chinese medicine, so we had all these Chinese books around the house. I started reading these books at some point, and took my first interest in Chinese from there.
I also did Latin in high school, so I thought that it would be cool to also learn classical Chinese (文言文) at some point. So that was actually one of my end goals: to learn classical Chinese. I know classical Chinese and Chinese aren’t really that similar, so I thought it would probably be suitable to try and learn Chinese first and do classical Chinese after.
I think languages come easy to me in a way that I enjoy the process of learning them. People say that I’m gifted but I think it’s just because I’ve made efforts and really put in the time. And I think the more languages you learn, the easier it gets. After doing French, it was easier for me to do Chinese just because I knew it could be done.
However, when it comes to learning ability, I don’t think there’s much of a difference between my brain and other people’s brains. I just like acquiring (获得) knowledge and meeting people. I guess I like to learn more about people, in a way, and that pushes me to learn languages.
28. How did the writer start learning French?
A. Through Youtube. B. Through Glossika.
C. Through family help. D. Through textbooks.
29. What first made the writer interested in Chinese?
A. Chinese medicine. B. Classical Chinese.
C. Chinese books at home. D. French learning.
30. What does the writer think of language learning?
A. It needs special gift. B. First language helps a lot.
C. It’s easier for smart people. D. Practice makes it easier.
31. Which best describes the writer?
A. Lazy but wise. B. Only interested in Chinese.
C. Gifted in school subjects. D. Language-loving and hard-working.
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. D 31. D
根据第一段“I started my language learning with French. I studied French at high school, mostly with textbooks.(我开始学习语言是从法语开始的。我在高中时学习了法语,主要是通过课本进行学习的)”可知,作者通过教科书开始学习法语。故选D。
【29题详解】

Parents often come across challenges in encouraging their children to eat more healthily, but a new study from Stanford researchers offers hope. The study, led by Jennifer Wang and Priya Fielding-Singh, was published in the Journal of adolescent Health. The researchers find that when teens have health-related food rules at home, they are more likely to eat healthily on their own.
To understand how teens make food decisions, Wang and Fielding-Singh surveyed 1,246 high school students from the San Francisco Bay Area. The students were asked about their eating habits and what their parents taught them about food. The findings showed that teens were generally aware of which foods were healthy and which were unhealthy — a fact that parents often ignore.
But Wang and Fielding-Singh wanted to know more than just what teenagers thought about food. They wanted to see how teens behaved when they thought their parents weren’t watching. That’s why they conducted an experiment where students chose snacks with or without their parents’ agreement. Ten snack options were presented; five healthy and five less healthy. The results showed that teens with health-related food rules at home were more likely to pick healthy snacks, whether their parents were watching or not.
“It is important for parents to understand whether food rules — and which ones — can help encourage healthy eating,” Wang said. The researchers found that rules focusing on health — such as allowing junk food only on special occasions or requiring vegetables at dinner — were effective because they stressed the importance of considering healthiness when making food choices. On the other hand, rules unrelated to health, such as no cellphones at table, had no impact on teens’ food decisions.
“We hope these findings offer some encouragement to parents,” said Fielding-Singh. “Having clear do’s and don’ts about healthy eating at home may give kids a road map for making healthier choices when their parents are away.”
32. What did the researchers find about teens’ awareness of healthy food?
A. Most teens ignored their parents’ advice on food.
B. Teens generally knew which foods were healthy or not.
C. Teens made better choices when parents were watching.
D. Teens preferred unhealthy snacks when parents were away.
33. Which rule has nothing to do with teens’ healthy food choices?
A. No cellphones at table. B. Having vegetables at dinner.
C. Allowing junk food on special days. D. Focusing on health when choosing food.
34. What does the underlined phrase “a road map” in the last paragraph most likely mean?
A. A detailed plan for a trip. B. A book about healthy food.
C. A list of restaurant menus. D. A set of clear rules.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. A New Study on Teenagers’ Snacks
B. Home Food Rules Help Teens Eat Healthily
C. How to Make Teens Choose Healthy Snacks
D. Parents’ Challenges in Encouraging Healthy Eating
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. D 35. B

【34题详解】

【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“The researchers find that when teens have health-related food rules at home, they are more likely to eat healthily on their own.(研究人员发现,当青少年在家中有与健康相关的饮食规则时,他们更有可能自己健康饮食)”可知,文章主要说明了研究人员发现当青少年在家中有与健康相关的饮食规则时,他们更有可能自己健康饮食。文章介绍了研究开展的过程以及研究发现家庭中与健康相关的饮食规则对青少年选择健康食物的影响。可知,B选项“家庭饮食规则有助于青少年健康饮食”最符合文章标题。故选B。

People in Victoria have often been admired as they enjoy the year-round good climate of Canada’s “banana belt”. So when the unusual snowstorm struck the area this December, Victorians weren’t prepared.
Before Christmas holiday was over, Victorians wished they would never see snow again! However, between December 21st and 29th, so much snow fell. The little city that seldom sees snow was covered by snow that was over I meter deep.
I called my 87-year-old mother, who lived in a downtown nursing home. She was in poor health, but her mind was active and unaffected. “Mum,” I said, “we’re completely snowed in. It may be a few days before I can get out to see you.”
I was worried. My mother had caught a bad cold. And because of the storm, drugs were not being delivered.
On the morning of December 31st, the phone rang. It was Mother’s nurse in charge. “The bad cold has seriously influenced your mother’s lungs,” she said. “She’s quite in low spirits, and she’s extremely eager to see you. Your coming may raise her spirits and increase her body’s ability to fight against the disease. Is there any way you can get here?”
I felt hopeless because I knew there was no way I could get there. Like thousands of others in the city, we were trapped.
Friends suggested I turn to C-FAX, one of the local radio stations. Since the heavy snowstorm struck Victoria, C-FAX had canceled its regular programming and was now a communication center for news updates, volunteer coordination (协调) and health and safety tips. In fact, it had become Victoria’s lifeline.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I picked up my phone and asked anxiously, “Can you help me?” I was asked patiently what had happened. After I explained the situation, the operator said they would do their best to help me and asked me to wait for further information from them. Though I did not feel much hope, I still looked forward to receiving their good news. About an hour later, the phone finally rang. The operator told me that a truck carrying medicine was going downtown, and I could take this bus there.
Later, I eagerly got on a truck heading for the nursing room. The road remained difficult to drive on. Although the car was moving slowly, fortunately it kept moving. I had been praying the whole way, hoping everything works out for us. After four hours, we finally reached our destination, although it took much longer than usual. When she saw me, my mother cried with excitement. After taking the medicine, my mother’s condition gradually improved. Many people, like me, were grateful to C-FAX.

Famous for its subtropical forests in Fujian Province Wuyi Mountain shelters endangered species like the Chinese giant salamander and golden monkey.

The teenagers raised $1700 from their church.

C It’s easier for smart people. D. Practice makes it easier.
31. Which best describes the writer?
A. Lazy but wise. B. Only interested in Chinese.
C. Gifted in school subjects. D. Language-loving and hard-working.
