There’s no place like home — a place to put your feet up, relax and be yourself. But a brand new full-service private rental property named Homestead is redefining (重新定义) modern living, making you feel at home.
Freed from the small stuff
Right from moving in, convenience is built into the process, with fully-furnished, high-quality apartments available for residents and access to all facilities of Homestead and Wi-Fi included in monthly rental cost.
Feel at home
Not only are Homestead’s apartments beautifully designed and furnished to create a sense of relaxation and luxury, but the shared spaces for residents to use and socialise in—from the inviting reception area to the landscaped roof garden and stylish private dining rooms — all reflect a contemporary, high-quality reimagining of what renting ought to be.
Make hybrid work really work
As hybrid work, which focuses on the flexibility of working, is part of our lives now, the opportunity to shift between workspaces with ease is critical. Start the day catching up on emails in a stylishly-designed co-working space steps away from your front door, before taking calls on the outside platform or travel into your employer’s office when you need to.
Be a people person
Living at Homestead means joining a community of like-minded people. Whether you meet neighbours on the roof garden or in the cinema room, or choose to network in the co-working space, making friends couldn’t be more straightforward.
Tap here for helpful services
They say there’s an app for everything — and in this case, there is an app with everything. The Homestead App gives you quick access to a range of bookable services, from ordering takeaway to dog walking to cleaning services — all right on your doorstep, meaning more time to actually enjoy the rest of your day.

In the kitchen of my mother’s houses there has always been a wooden stand (木架) with a small notepad (记事本) and a hole for a pencil.
I’m looking for paper on which to note down the name of a book I am recommending to my mother. Over forty years since my earliest memories of the kitchen pad and pencil, five houses later, the current paper and pencil look the same as they always did. Surely it can’t be the same pencil? The pad is more modern, but the wooden stand is definitely the original one.
“I’m just amazed you still have the same stand for holding the pad and pencil after all these years. ”I say to her, walking back into the living-room with a sheet of paper and the pencil. “You still use a pencil. Can’t you afford a pen?”
My mother replies a little sharply. “It works perfectly well. I’ve always kept the stand in the kitchen. I never knew when I might want to note down an idea, and I was always in the kitchen in those days.”
Immediately I can picture her, hair wild, blue housecoat covered in flour, a wooden spoon in one hand, the pencil in the other, her mouth moving silently. My mother smiles and says, “One day I was cooking and watching baby Pauline, and I had a brilliant thought, but the stand was empty. One of the children must have taken the paper. So I just picked up the breadboard and wrote it all down on the back. It turned out to be a real breakthrough for solving the mathematical problem I was working on.”
This story, which happened before I was born, reminds me how extraordinary my mother was, and is, as a gifted mathematician. I feel embarrassed that I complain about not having enough child- free time to work. Later, when my mother is in the bathroom, I go into her kitchen and turn over the breadboards. Sure enough, on the back of the smallest one, are some penciled marks I recognize as mathematics. Those symbols have traveled unaffected through fifty years, rooted in the soil of a cheap wooden breadboard, invisible (看不到的) exhibits at every meal.
41. What is the author’s original opinion about the wooden stand?
A. It has great value for the family. B. It needs to be replaced by a better one.

A. blaming her mother wrongly. B. giving her mother a lot of trouble.
C. not making good use of time as her mother did. D. not making any breakthrough in her field.

A. The mother is successful in her career. B. The family members like traveling.
C. The author had little time to play when young. D. The marks on the breadboard have disappeared.
45. In the author’s mind, her mother is _________.
A. strange in behavior. B. keen on her research.
C. fond of collecting old things. D. careless about her appearance.
C
Ask someone what they have done to help the environment recently and they will almost certainly mention recycling. Recycling in the home is very important of course. However, being forced to recycle often means we already have more material than we need. We are dealing with the results of that over-consumption in the greenest way possible, but it would be far better if we did not need to bring so much material home in the first place.
The total amount of packaging increased by 12% between 1999 and 2005. It now makes up a third of a typical household’s waste in the UK. In many supermarkets nowadays food items are packaged twice with plastic and cardboard (硬纸板) .
Too much packaging is doing serious damage to the environment. The UK, for example, is running out of it for carrying this unnecessary waste. If such packaging is burnt, it gives off greenhouse gases which go on to cause the greenhouse effect. Recycling helps, but the process itself uses energy. The solution is not to produce such items in the first place. Food waste is a serious problem, too. Too many supermarkets encourage customers to buy more than they need. However, a few of them are coming round to the idea that this cannot continue, encouraging customers to reuse their plastic bags, for example.
But this is not just about supermarkets. It is about all of us. We have learned to associate packaging with quality. We have learned to think that something unpackaged is of poor quality. This is especially true of food. But it also applies to a wide range of consumer products, which often have far more packaging than necessary.
There are signs of hope. As more of us recycle, we are beginning to realise just how much unnecessary material is collected. We need to face the wastefulness of our consumer culture, but we have a mountain to climb.
46. What is the author’s fundamental attitude towards recycling mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. Supportive but cautious. B. Appreciative but doubtful.
C. Respectful but contradictory. D. Positive but critical.
47. The author uses figures in Paragraph 2 to show __________.
A. the tendency of cutting household waste B. the increase of packaging recycling
C. the rapid growth of supermarkets D. the fact of packaging overuse
48. According to the text recycling __________.
A. helps control the greenhouse effect B. means burning packaging for energy
C. is the solution to gas shortage D. leads to a waste of land
49. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A. Unpackaged products are of bad quality. B. Supermarkets care more about packaging.
C. It is improper to judge quality by packaging. D. Other products are better packaged than food.
50. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Recycling is the most effective way to protect the environment.
B. The government should take action to stop over-packaging.
C. Reducing waste at the source is more important than recycling.
D. Supermarkets are primarily responsible for the packaging problem.
D
A large number of people start experiencing strong loneliness in the few months following their graduation. Many people mistakenly think that loneliness can be ended by having more friends or by meeting new people but those who experienced loneliness for some time know that a person can have so many friends yet still feel lonely.
Loneliness happens when you don’t have intimate relationships with your friends. Some of the main characteristics (特征) of an intimate relationship are common interests, openness and common life challenges. During college or high school years most of the people in a group will have the same problems. The upcoming exam which requires a lot of studying and the demanding professor are all problems that friends in the same group face at once.
When a group of people face the same issues together, some kind of a bond is formed between them that makes their relationship more intimate. In such a case those people talk about their common problems, think together of solutions and even help each other go through them (by studying together for example) . Loneliness can never appear in such an environment because each person will feel that he is on the same ship with others and nobody will feel left out.
What happens after graduation? After graduation each person usually takes a different path and finds himself fighting his own unique battle. Problems become no longer common between the same group of people because each of them develops his own special ones. Friends can become less connected to each other when each one of them lives a different life and this can reduce intimacy and promote loneliness.
So how can this type of loneliness be ended? In such a case two things can be done. You can either share your new problems with your old friends and make sure you listen to theirs or you can make more friends at your new job to share with them what’s going on in your new life. The key to preventing loneliness is to find people who are fighting the same battle as you. When you do so, stick to them, share your experiences with them and you will never feel lonely.
51. According to paragraph 1, which statement will the author agree with?
A. The feeling of loneliness will naturally disappear over time.
B. The feeling of loneliness will disappear with more friends made.
C. The feeling of loneliness can’t be ended by taking active actions.
D. The feeling of loneliness can last even with many newly- made friends.
52. Why is loneliness not felt so widely during college or high school years?
A. The students face similar situations. B. The students are too busy with their study.
C. The students are required to work as a team. D. The students are not distanced by their living places.
53. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A. Who this type of loneliness affects most. B. Why this type of loneliness comes up.
C. How this type of loneliness can be ended. D. What characteristics this type of loneliness has.
54. According to the passage, what is the key to preventing loneliness after graduation?
A. Making as many new friends as possible at work.
B. Keeping in touch with old friends regularly.
C. Finding people who share similar challenges.
D. Sharing personal experiences with anyone willing to listen.
55. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Loneliness After Graduation B. The Importance of Intimate Relationships
C. Shared Challenges Eliminate Loneliness D. How to Expand Your Social Circle
E
For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave out? As a social psychologist, I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes for a good life, and how can we achieve it?
For much of human history, we have been presented with two possibilities: pursuing a life of happiness, or a life of meaning. Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their limits.
Ask the Danes and Finns, who consistently rank among the happiest people in the world, what their secret is and they’ll tell you this: lower your expectations and be content with what you have. It sounds good, doesn’t it? But it leaves something out. It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of getting good grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort?
Then there’s the meaningful life. We often imagine that meaning flows from trying to change the world like Steve Jobs. Once again, the research shows that lowering your sights and focusing on the little things can offer a more achievable sense of meaning. Often people find it in routines like taking care of family, or volunteering in the community. But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning: researchers have found that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.
My research lab mapped out a third route to fulfillment: psychological richness. A psychologically rich life is one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and turns; a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit. Such experiences can make us tougher. Not only that, embracing the pursuit of psychological richness can make us less likely to regret: it matters less if the thing you did went wrong.
Perhaps no one said it better than Eleanor Roosevelt: “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear .”(363)
56. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the author’s professional background and research focus
B. To criticize traditional views on happiness
C. To present statistical data on life satisfaction
D. To compare Eastern and Western philosophies
57. What is revealed about pursuing happiness or meaning?
A. Their benefits outweigh the limits. B. They are equally difficult to achieve.
C. Both paths have limits despite their benefits. D. Most people prioritize happiness over meaning.
58. What does the example of “a college student” show in paragraph 3?
A. Gratitude is essential for a happy life. B. We should live up to others’ expectations.
C. Happiness requires academic achievement. D. Life means more than leisure and comfort.
59. What can be inferred from paragraph 4 about the pursuit of meaning?
A. Its negative effect might weaken social unity in the long run.
B. It is more achievable through grand ambitions than small actions.
C. Volunteering is the most effective way to gain a sense of meaning.
D. People who pursue meaning often neglect their family responsibilities.
60. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article?
A. To promote Roosevelt’s life philosophy. B. To introduce a new concept of life fulfillment.
C. To criticize traditional psychological research. D. To compare different cultural views on happiness.

As hybrid work, which focuses on the flexibility of working, is part of our lives now, the opportunity to shift between workspaces with ease is critical. Tap here for helpful services

A. blaming her mother wrongly. B. giving her mother a lot of trouble.
C. not making good use of time as her mother did. D. not making any breakthrough in her field.

A. The mother is successful in her career. B. The family members like traveling.
C. The author had little time to play when young. D. The marks on the breadboard have disappeared.

48. According to the text, recycling __________.
A. helps control the greenhouse effect B. means burning packaging for energy
C. is the solution to gas shortage D. leads to a waste of land

D People who pursue meaning often neglect their family responsibilities.
60. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article?
A. To promote Roosevelt’s life philosophy. B. To introduce a new concept of life fulfillment.
C. To criticize traditional psychological research. D. To compare different cultural views on happiness.
【答案】56. A 57. C 58. D 59. A 60. B

________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I know it’s not easy for many of you. But this is just the kind of thing you are going to face at senior high.
是 you,所以是 “many of you” 。“对某人不容易”为“it is not easy for sb”。“但”常见英文表达为 but ,表转折。“正是”用 just加强语气。 “将要”表达为 be going to,表示按计划或安排将要发生的动作,这里主语是 you,所以用are going to。“面对”常见英文为face;“在高中”表达为at senior high 。所以“但这正是你们在高中将要面对的事情”翻译为But this is just the kind of thing 是主句,you are going to face at senior high是省略了关系代词 that的定语从句,修饰先行词 the kind of thing,因为先行词在从句中作face的宾语,所以关系代词可省略。故翻译为:I know it’s not easy for many of you. But this is just the kind of thing you are going to face at senior high.

I knew I had done a good job and was looking forward to getting a positive comment from the teacher.
74. (这场比赛)被数百万人观看,大家对比赛的结局有不同的意见:他们兄弟是应该被取消资格还是被高度赞扬 (divided opinions) ? (汉译英)
________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Watched by millions, the ending to the race has divided opinions: should the brothers have been disqualified or highly praised for their actions?
【解析】
【详解】考查名词短语、非谓语动词以及句子结构。句首表示“被数百万人观看”用过去分词短语watched by millions表被动,作状语;表示“大家对比赛的结局”为the ending to the race,作主语,描述客观事实用一般现在时,主谓一致,表示“有不同意见”为has divided opinions;表示“他们是应该被取消资格还是被高度赞扬”为选择问句,用情态动词should+have done对过去事情的推测,因为动词disqualify和praise和主语之间是被动关系,用被动语态,表达为should the brothers have been disqualified or highly praised for their actions? 故完整翻译为:Watched by millions, the ending to the race has divided opinions: should the brothers have been disqualified or highly praised for their actions?
75. 如今,我们可以周游世界,同时也可以与想要与之维持友谊的人们保持联系 (remain friends with) 。(汉译英)
________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with the people that we want to remain friends with.
保持联系”为并列的谓语部分,由并列连词and连接,情态动词can后接动词原形,“周游世界”为move around the world,“保持联系”为stay in touch with,故这部分译为can move around the world and still stay in touch with;表示“想要与之维持友谊的”作定语修饰名词people,可以使用定语从句,先行词在从句中作介词with的宾语,指人,可用关系代词that引导,“想要做某事”为want to do sth.,“与……维持友谊”为remain friends with,从句中为了避免重复,介词with后用关系代词指代先行词people,故定语从句译为that we want to remain friends with;表示“人们”为the people作介词with的宾语,加定冠词the表特指。故翻译为Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with the people that we want to remain friends with.
76. 在黑脉金斑蝶的惊人迁徙能力之谜得以破解之际,正是这一物种陷入严重危机之时 (the solution to…) 。(汉译英)

【解析】
【详解】考查一般现在时、固定短语及定语从句。“……之谜的破解”表达为the solution to the mystery of...,这里“黑脉金斑蝶的惊人迁徙能力”即the monarch’s amazing ability ,所以整体是the solution to the mystery of the monarch’s amazing ability;“在……之际”表达为at a time 。“陷入严重危机”表达为be in serious trouble ,这里用一般现在时表示客观事实。when it is in serious trouble是由when引导的定语从句,修饰先行词a time ,when在从句中作时间状语,it指代the monarch(黑脉金斑蝶这一物种) 。整句描述客观事实,用一般现在时。故译为The solution to the mystery of the monarch’s amazing ability comes at a time when it is in serious trouble.

“喜欢做某事”用like to do sth.,即like to say。“自称拥有……”表达为say that they have... green fingers表示“园艺技能” ; “约半数人口将闲暇时间用于园艺活动”用“with + 宾语 + 宾语补足语”结构,“约半数人口”表达为around half the population。“将闲暇时间用于园艺活动”为“spending their free time gardening”是现在分词短语作宾语补足语,spend time doing sth.表示“花费时间做某事” 。故译为Millions of Brits like to say that they have “green fingers”, with around half the population spending their free time gardening.
