Do you like ice cream? Try making some delicious ice cream yourself! It’s not as hard as you might think—you can make it in plastic (塑料的) bags without the need for a fridge (冰箱)!
Steps:
①Put milk, sugar and cream in a small plastic bag. Slowly seal (密封) the plastic bag to let the air out.
②Put this bag in a second small plastic bag and seal it again. Using two bags can keep the mix from spilling (溢出).
③Take out a big plastic bag and add ice and salt (that can make the ice cooler) to it.
④Put the small bags with the mix in the big plastic bag and seal it.
⑤Shake and rub (揉搓) the big bag for 5 to 8 minutes. Then open the bags and enjoy your ice cream!
Things you need:
milk, sugar, cream, salt, ice, 2 small plastic bags, 1 big plastic bag
Science behind it:
Milk has water. If you put the mix in the fridge, the water in the milk will turn into ice. This makes the taste of ice cream not very good. But when you shake and rub the milk, the water stays in the milk and mixes well with other things. So ice cream made in this way tastes better.

A. To store ice and salt. B. To mix the ingredients.
C. To keep the mix inside the bag. D. To let the air out.
17. What can help make the mix cooler?

This April in northern England, a “huge bird” was walking through the fields! The “bird” looked like something out of a fantasy movie. But it was a 46-year-old man, Matt Trevelyan. He was interested in birdwatching. He wore Eurasian curlew (白腰杓鹬) clothes!
Eurasian curlews are large birds with long legs. The number of them is getting smaller and smaller, and they are almost disappearing in the UK. Farming and building are destroying (破坏) their homes. Foxes, crows, and even sheep eat their eggs or babies.
Matt works in a protected natural area, and he knows the importance of helping the birds. He spent three days creating the curlew costume with bamboo, cloth, and plastic. Then, he wore it and walked 53 miles in total along the way. This unusual walk wasn’t for fun. It carried a meaningful purpose to draw attention (引起注意) to curlew protection.
Matt’s idea came from a writer named Mary Colwell. In 2016, Mary walked about 500 miles across the British Isles to learn more about the fewer and fewer curlews and make people notice them. In 2017, she created World Curlew Day. In 2018, Mary published a book to share her journey. After raising some money, Mary formed a charity (慈善) to save the birds in 2019.
Matt wanted to do something similar. His walk was his own way of supporting the birds’ protection. It tells us that even one person can make a difference in protecting animals. Maybe we can all do something to help, too!
26. Which of the following is NOT mentioned about Matt?
A. His age. B. His hobby. C. His workplace. D. His hometown.
27. Why did Matt wear a curlew costome?

C. To draw attention to curlew protection. D. To try new materials for making costumes.
28 What is the right order of the following events?
①Mary formed a charity. ②Mary published a book.
③Mary had a 500-mile walk. ④World Curlew Day was created.
A. ②→①→③→④ B. ③→④→①→② C. ②→①→④→③ D. ③→④→②→①
29. From what Matt did, we can learn that he was ______.
A. strict B. kind C. honest D. polite
30. What does the writer want to tell the readers?
A. Even one person’s actions matter to wildlife protection.

第三节 信息摘录(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)
阅读下列短文,根据内容,完成表格中所缺的信息。
Do plants talk to each other? Although plants don’t have mouths like humans, they have their own ways to have communication.
Some plants use chemicals (化学物质) to communicate with each other. This happens when insects eat a plant, for example a bean plant. The plant sends out chemicals from the leaves. It is telling other bean plants, “I’m in danger!” When other bean plants smell the chemicals, they start to send out their own, different chemicals. Some of these chemicals can drive the insects away, and others can attract (吸引) bees! Then the bees kill the insects.
More surprisingly, plants also use sounds to communicate. People can’t hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make sounds with their roots (根). Corm and chili plants do this. They also listen to sounds from other plants. A chili plant can tell if a plant around is helpful or unfriendly. Some trees make sounds when they are thirsty.
Most surprisingly of all, plants can communicate through an amazing network (网络) called “wood wide web”. The “wood wide web” is connected to each other underground by fungi (真菌). These fungi connect the roots of different plants together. Through the “wood wide web”, plants can exchange information with each other. Some trees can even send food to help smaller trees grow.
Scientists are learning more about the ways plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will be able to “talk” with them.

C. To keep the mix inside the bag. D. To let the air out.

A. To study the bird’s habits. B. To make people laugh.
C. To draw attention to curlew protection. D. To try new materials for making costumes.
28. What is the right order of the following events?
①Mary formed a charity. ②Mary published a book.
③Mary had a 500-mile walk. ④World Curlew Day was created.
A. ②→①→③→④ B. ③→④→①→② C. ②→①→④→③ D. ③→④→②→①
29. From what Matt did, we can learn that he was ______.
A. strict B. kind C. honest D. polite
30. What does the writer want to tell the readers?
A. Even one person’s actions matter to wildlife protection.
B. Some necessary actions should be taken to protect wildlife.
C. Trying unusual ways sometimes can achieve good results.
D. A good role model can have a strong influence on a person.
