One rainy afternoon, while organizing a dusty shelf, she discovered an unusual seashell. It was pale blue with complicated silver lines that seemed to form a map. Taped beneath (在下方) it was a faded note in her grandfather’s handwriting: “For the one who listens closely.” Curious, Mia held the shell to her ear. Instead of the usual sound of the sea, she heard a rhythmic whispering—like distant tides (潮水), but with a pattern. She recognized it as Morse code! After decoding it with an old book from the shop, the message read: “Find the eye that never sleeps.” Mia knew this must refer to the town’s old lighthouse (灯塔), which had been shut down but remained a local landmark. That evening, she cycled to the cliffs (陡岸) where the lighthouse stood. Its great glass lens was dark, yet in the moonlight she noticed something strange: one of the beams (横梁) near the top had a small carved symbol just matching the silver lines on the shell. The next morning, Mia returned with her friend Sam, an experienced climber. Together they carefully climbed the lighthouse’s outer staircase. At the carved beam, Mia pressed the symbol, and a hidden drawer slid open. Inside lay a journal (日志) belonging to her great-grandmother, Eliza—the town’s first lighthouse keeper. The journal described a secret network of tunnels (隧道) beneath Seabrook, once used by sailors to transport supplies during storms. Eliza had written them in detail but kept their existence hidden to protect the town during war. The final entry read: “Some secrets are kept not for fear, but for love of what they guard.” Mia realized her grandfather had left her this puzzle not just as a game, but as a way to connect her with the family’s history and the town’s hidden heritage. She decided to keep the secret, just as her ancestors had—knowing that true discovery sometimes means understanding what to protect, not only what to reveal (透露). 59.How did Mia first realize the seashell included a hidden message? A.By noticing a map drawn on its surface. B.By hearing rhythmic whispers in Morse code. C.By finding a note tucked inside it. D.By recognizing her grandfather’s voice in the shell. 60.Why did Mia’s great-grandmother keep the tunnels a secret according to the journal? A.She planned to use them for personal treasure. B.She wanted to surprise future generations. C.She aimed to protect the town during difficult times. D.She did not think they were important enough to share. 61.What is the main purpose of the last paragraph? A.To suggest Mia will tell everyone about the tunnels. B.To explain why some secrets should remain hidden. C.To describe how Mia repaired the lighthouse. D.To show that Sam will continue exploring alone. 根据“Instead of the usual sound of the sea, she heard a rhythmic whispering—like distant tides, but with a pattern. She recognized it as Morse code!” 根据“Eliza had written them in detail but kept their existence hidden to protect the town during war.”可知,Eliza详细记录下这些内容,却把它们隐藏起来是为了在战争期间守护小镇的安全。此处指她想在困难时期保护这座城镇。故选C。 61.主旨大意题。根据“She decided to keep the secret, just as her ancestors had—knowing that true discovery sometimes means understanding what to protect, not only what to reveal.”可知,她决定保守这个秘密,正如她的祖先们所做的那样——她深知,真正的发现有时意味着要明白该保护什么,而不仅仅是该揭示什么。此处指最后一段的目的是解释为什么某些秘密应该保密。故选B。 C The Trap (陷阱) of the Deadline High You’ve probably said it or heard it: “I work better under pressure.” It feels true because when the deadline draws near-for example, you must hand in a task tomorrow-your brain runs fast. That last-minute rush can feel productive but it’s not increased performance. It’s rushed performance to make up for weeks of avoidance and inaction. Procrastinating (拖延) then rushing to finish a task isn’t about time management. It’s about emotion regulation (调节). When a task feels uncertain or unpleasant, your brain looks for a way out. Behind this situation is a fight between two brain areas. The limbic system wants comfort right now. The prefrontal cortex wants long-term success. But the limbic system can be faster and stronger. So unless you intervene on purpose, the part of your brain that prefers comfort to challenge will usually win. What’s worse, there are long-term costs to procrastination. At first, you feel a weight off your shoulders. But studies show that over time, procrastinators experience more stress, worse health, and lower performance. That deadline high? It’s the trap. It rewards the brain for procrastinating, making you more likely to depend on panic again next time. So, how can you break this cycle without depending on pressure? Explore the task that scares you with the Triple Check tool. Procrastination is a disguise (伪装), whether that’s fear of failure, judgment, or discomfort. Use the Triple Check tool to ask yourself some questions with curiosity. Then you can figure out why you procrastinate, so you can regain a sense of control. Start small to regain drive. Promise yourself to just 10 minutes of focused work. Still having trouble getting started? Start your task with a small one- “sit in front of the desk” or “write one sentence.” Add “micro-costs” for avoidance. Want to scroll? Make it inconvenient. Sign out, or put your phone in another room. These micro-costs can bring you enough time to think rationally (理智地). Each time you choose action over avoidance, you’re not just checking off a to-do, you’re teaching your brain to not depend on the deadline high. And there’s no need for self-blame (自我谴责) in that process- just curiosity. 62.What would the writer most probably agree with about the last-minute rush? A.It is quite productive. B.It is one kind of avoidance. C.It is about time management. D.It is about emotion regulation. 63.What does the word “intervene” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean? A.Pay no attention to the problem. B.Wait for the right moment. C.Follow your first feeling. D.Step in and take actions. 64.What is the best example of breaking the cycle of the deadline high? A.Push yourself to finish the task at once without stopping. B.To begin with, focus on your homework for just 10 minutes. C.Listen to music while doing your homework to make you relaxed. D.Refuse to begin difficult homework because you fear making mistakes. 65.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To warn readers of the effect of the deadline high. B.To encourage readers to work when they feel pressure. C.To advise readers to break from the deadline high. D.To remind readers not to be afraid of difficult tasks. 根据“That last-minute rush can feel productive but it’s not increased performance. It’s rushed performance to make up for weeks of avoidance and inaction.”以及“Procrastinating then rushing to finish a task isn’t about time management. It’s about emotion regulation.”可知,作者认为最后关头的冲刺是一种弥补此前回避和不作为的行为,其本质是关于情绪调节,而非时间管理。故选D。 63.词句猜测题。根据“So unless you intervene on purpose, the part of your brain that prefers comfort to challenge will usually win.”可知,除非你故意介入,否则大脑中偏爱舒适而非挑战的部分通常会获胜。由此可推断出“intervene”意为“介入并采取行动”。故选D。 64.推理判断题。根据“Start small to regain drive. Promise yourself to just 10 minutes of focused work.”可知,作者建议从小处着手,例如承诺只专注于工作10分钟,以此来打破依赖截止日期兴奋的循环。选项B与此建议相符。故选B。 65.主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是结尾段“Each time you choose action over avoidance, you’re not just checking off a to-do, you’re teaching your brain to not depend on the deadline high.”可知,作者主要目的在于分析“截止日期兴奋”的陷阱,并提供具体策略建议读者打破对其的依赖。故选C。 D Emma hung the streamers (彩带), not really paying attention to where she was placing them. She was too upset to focus. After all, it was her birthday too and no one in her class had said happy birthday. They were busy planning the surprise party for Mr. Stinton, the custodian (管理人). Sure Mr. Stinton was great. He knew everyone’s birthday and made cards and cookies for them. He high-fived (击掌) you when you got an A on a test. Emma knew Mr. Stinton deserved (值得) a surprise party, but she wished one person would have remembered it was her birthday too. Emma glanced (瞥见) at the huge card the class had made. Mr. Stinton wouldn’t like it if they bought presents for him, so Emma had suggested the class make a card and food just like he did for them. She’d spent much time planning the surprise party. “I’m going to call Mr. Stinton,” Mrs. Bowman said. “Emma, will you turn off the lights please?” Mrs. Bowman called Mr. Stinton saying the lights in the classroom had gone out. As soon as Mrs. Bowman hung up, Emma took one last look around the room and turned the lights off. Emma heard the sound of Mr. Stinton’s shoes in the hallway. The doorknob (门把手) turned, so Emma turned the light on. Everyone called out. “Surprise!” Mr. Stinton was surprised, but so was Emma. Mr. Stinton was carrying some balloons and cookies. “A surprise party for me?” Mr. Stinton said. He walked to the huge card. “This is the most beautiful card I’ve ever seen.” He turned to Emma and handed her a card. “It makes my birthday card for you look kind of small.” He gave Emma the balloons and cookies. “Happy birthday, Emma. I was so excited when I found out we have the same birthday.” “Happy birthday, Emma,” her classmates said. “I’m glad we share the same birthday, too,” Emma said, smiling at Mr. Stinton. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 66.Why couldn’t Emma focus on hanging the streamers? A.She was too tired to do it. B.She was asked to turn off the lights. C.She was busy making a huge card. B.Making things was easier for the students. C.Emma wanted to show her cooking skills. D.Mr. Stinton doesn’t like store-bought presents. 69.How did Emma’s feelings change according to the text? A.Happy→sad→surprised B.Surprised→sad→worried C.Sad→surprised→happy D.Worried→surprised→happy 70.What can we learn about Mr. Stinton? A.He was strict and careful. B.He was kind and caring. C.He was brave and confident. He won a national “Young Heroes” prize for his green project. Bert put his efforts into the environmental educational project and made it a success. Bert showed a great interest in insects at the age of four. He always loved to watch different insects, especially beautiful swallowtails (凤蝶). Bert learned a fun fact about swallowtails. Their bright colors warn hungry animals that they taste bad. Swallowtails are very easy to find. They like bright flowers like zinnias (百日葵). Bert started a zinnia garden at his house. Over the years, he raised many swallowtails there. The number of swallowtails is falling worldwide. Bert wanted people to know something important: if insects like swallowtails disappear, the animals above them on the food chain will disappear too. To help other students understand this, he also built a zinnia garden at his junior high school. Bert loved watching the younger students running after swallowtails happily. “Whenever swallowtails land on them, the young students will soon fall in love with these cute insects. They start to appreciate (欣赏) them in a new way. It is important for students to interact (互动) with swallowtails, it helps them care about protecting insects and the environment,” he said. B In the small coastal town of Seabrook, fourteen-year-old Mia spent her summer helping at her grandfather’s antique shop (古董店). C The Trap (陷阱) of the Deadline High You’ve probably said it or heard it: “I work better under pressure.” It feels true because when the deadline draws near-for example, you must hand in a task tomorrow-your brain runs fast. D Emma hung the streamers (彩带), not really paying attention to where she was placing them. D.She thought no one remembered her birthday. 67.What did Mr. Stinton usually do for the students on their birthdays? A.He bought birthday presents for them. D.He was smart and outgoing. 第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。 Bert is a university student. C The Trap (陷阱) of the Deadline High You’ve probably said it or heard it: “I work better under pressure.” It feels true because when the deadline draws near-for example, you must hand in a task tomorrow-your brain runs fast. D Emma hung the streamers (彩带), not really paying attention to where she was placing them. She was too upset to focus. After all, it was her birthday too and no one in her class had said happy birthday. They were busy planning the surprise party for Mr. Stinton, the custodian (管理人). Sure Mr. Stinton was great. Bert loves insects more than before, and he will keep protecting them in the future. 根据语篇内容,按要求回答问题。 71.What prize did Bert win? 72.When did Bert show a great interest in insects? 73.How many zinnia gardens did Bert build to raise swallowtails? 74.What will happen if insects like swallowtails disappear? 75.Do you want to build a zinnia garden at school?
