“Wow! Look at that! Isn’t it a real fish?” The bionic (仿生) fish, named “Jinlin”, was swimming lively like a real one. It was developed by researchers at Shanghai Ocean University. This invention isn’t just for fun—it shows how humans copy nature to solve problems. That is a science called bionics.
Over millions of years, animals and plants have developed smart ways to survive. For example, kingfishers (翠鸟) are experts at moving fast between air and water with very little noise. Through their study, scientists discovered that the birds’ long beaks (喙) enabled this ability. Then they used the knowledge to change the front of the high-speed train. This change cut down noise level, increased speed by 10% and greatly saved energy. This combination of biology and engineering is the key to success in bionics. And it has set the stage for the rise of other new technologies.
Driven by robotics and AI, bionics has grown rapidly. The AI-powered bionic fish “Jinlin” can be used for environmental protection and deep sea exploration. In medicine, bionic arms can work similarly to real arms. The sensors allow the user to “feel” touch and pressure. Motors help the bionic arms make movements, like human muscles (肌肉). With AI, the bionic arms are able to “learn” new tasks and become smarter over time. These inventions are examples to show how bionics bridges biology and new technologies to solve humans’ problems.
Although so much progress has been made, bionics faces challenges. Nature’s designs are hard to copy perfectly. As for bionic arms, one key area of development is Brain-Computer Interface (脑机接口). More work on natural communication between the brain and bionic is required to control movements as directly as real arms. Researchers are also working on new materials and structures which can sense and repair themselves. While there’s still a long way to go, the future of bionics is full of possibilities. Stay hungry. Stay foolish. Maybe you’ll be the next one to change the world!
49. Why does the writer mention “Jinlin” at the beginning of the passage?
A. To show the importance of bionics. B. To explain the habits of fish.
C. To lead into the topic of bionics. D. To suggest some new ideas.
50. What does the underlined word “combination” mean in the passage?
A. Mixing two things. B. Showing two things.
C. Separating two things. D. Putting two things in order.
51. According to Paragraph 4, how would scientists make bionic arms more like real ones?
① By connecting motors with smartphones.
② By developing new materials and structures.
③ By improving Brain-Computer Interface.
④ By changing the shape and look of bionic arms.
A. ①② B. ①④ C. ②③ D. ③④
52. Which of the following shows the use of bionics?
A. Building a house with natural materials like wood.
B. Drawing a picture of birds by watching real birds.
C. Learning to dance by studying monkeys’ movements.
D. Designing a camera by copying some insects’ eyes.

The 2026 Spring Festival Gala of China Media Group (CMG) has chosen “Qiji Chicheng, Shibu Kedang” as its theme for the Year of the Horse. “Qiji (骐骥)”, a beautiful name for fine horses in ancient China, comes from old Chinese poems. It stands for the Chinese nation’s spirit of moving forward bravely and never stopping. Also, “Qiji” sounds the same as “miracle” in Chinese, showing people’s wish to create miracles and go forward with confidence. The logo of the 2026 Gala was designed by Gu Yongjiang, who has designed the Gala’s main logo for four years in a row. His design ideas always center on traditional Chinese culture and aesthetics (美学). When designing for “Qiji Chichi”, the team found that concrete (具象的) horse images from different dynasties, like Han or Tang horses, couldn’t represent horses in a broad sense-everyone has their own idea of a perfect horse. So they turned to Chinese characters themselves. Chinese characters are beautiful because they have both concrete and abstract (抽象的) sides.
The design team combined Chinese characters with traditional patterns such as cloud patterns, thunder patterns and spiral patterns (回纹). The logo not only shows the beauty of traditional Chinese art but also the energetic spirit of modern times. It creates a lively scene of thousands of horses running wild, and forms an endless cycle structure. As Gu Yongjiang said, the logo has a sense of freedom and power, like horses running wildly in the sky, and it also carries the unbreakable spirit of the Great Wall and the unstoppable momentum (气势) of a powerful army. The team also created, new lucky phrases to match the logo, making a new kind of lucky culture for the festival.
As the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the 2026 Spring Festival Gala will welcome the Year of the Horse with Chinese people all over the world, bringing a warm and new feast (盛宴).
53. The theme “Qiji Chicheng” implies (暗示) _________.
A. a concrete image of a Tang horse B. a wish for miracles and progress
C. the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan D. a quiet and peaceful life
54. Which pattern is NOT used in the 2026 Spring Festival Gala logo according to the passage?
A. cloud patterns B. thunder patterns C. spiral patterns D. flower patterns
55. We can infer from the passage that the design team chose Chinese characters instead of concrete horse images because _________.
A. concrete horse images from different dynasties were not beautiful enough
B. Chinese characters are easier to draw than horse images
C. concrete horse images couldn’t represent the broad meaning of “horse”
D. Chinese characters are more popular among young people
56. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The History of Chinese Horse Art B. The Spirit of “Qiji”
C. 2026 Spring Festival Gala: Theme & Logo D. A Feast for the Year of the Horse

For days, Buck followed the big moose (驼鹿). It was old and big, weighing six hundred and fifty kilos—strong enough to kill Buck with one kick. But Buck was clever and patient. He did not attack carelessly. Instead, he followed the moose, nipping at its legs and sides, never giving it a moment to eat or rest. The moose grew weaker and weaker, and Buck waited for the right time. On the fourth day, the moose could not go on. Buck pulled it down and killed it. He stayed by the dead animal for a day and a half, eating his fill. When he finally left, he was strong and his coat shone with health.
As he walked through the forest, he heard a sound—a long, sad howl. He stopped and smelled the air. Wolves! He had heard them before, but this time they were close. Then he saw them: a pack of twenty wolves, young and strong. They surrounded him, growling.
Buck stood still, his hair standing up. He showed his teeth and growled back. One young wolf attacked, but Buck bit its neck and threw it to the ground. The other wolves stepped back, surprised. Then an old wolf walked forward. It was thin and wise, with one eye. Buck did not attack. Instead, he smelled the old wolf’s nose. The old wolf smelled him back.
Suddenly, the old wolf started to wag its tail. The other wolves stopped growling. Buck felt something warm in his heart. For the first time, he did not feel like a stranger in the forest. He felt like he belonged here. The wild call was no longer just a sound in his head—it was a part of him.
——Taken from The Call of the Wild
57. According to the passage, which of the following best describes Buck’s characteristics?

A. Buck tried to avoid the moose and hid himself in the forest at first
B. The moose was too strong to be killed by Buck easily.
C. Buck planned to attack the moose as soon as he saw it.
D. The moose could rest and eat well during Buck’s following.
59. Which is the correct order of what happened in the story?
① Buck killed the moose and ate it.
② The wolves surrounded Buck, and an old wolf accepted him.
③ Buck followed the moose for days, making it weak.
④ Buck felt strong and healthy, then met the wolves.
A. ③→①→④→② B. ①→③→②→④ C. ④→②→③→① D. ②→④→①→③
60. The passage mainly tells us _________.
A. how Buck killed a moose

On August 16, 2025, Pang Zhongwang, a doctoral student from Tsinghua University, won the “Touching China 2024” Award. His story, from a young man who fought against heavy hardships to an encouraging character, has warmed many hearts.
Born with great challenges, Pang lived a hard life when he was a child. His father has a serious mental illness. His mother’s legs were cut off, so she could hardly move. Pang himself had a heart problem since he was born. He went door-to-door to borrow money for his mother’s illness. He also picked up waste things to make money and help pay off his family’s debts (债务). However, he never lost hope. He always believed “Knowledge can change my life”.
In 2017, Pang entered Tsinghua University with a very high score in the college entrance exam. At first, he was worried that he might let others down. But later, he found his interest in scientific research. He kept trying even when he failed many times. Although money was still a problem, he decided to depend on himself. That’s why he said no to people who raised money for him. Instead, he asked Tsinghua University for grants (补助金) and won prizes for good grades. His mother named him “Zhongwang”, and it means “the hope of everyone”. She always told him to look forward to the future. Pang once said, “Mom smiles every day, why should I feel sad?”
Sadly, his mother passed away in 2020. That was just before he got the chance to study for a doctor’s degree at Tsinghua. Now, Pang has written many important science papers and got patents(专利)for his inventions. His dream is to “serve the country through scientific research” and he works hard for this goal. His story lights the way for many people.
As the award speech says: “You leave your hard times behind. You face life with a smile and move forward strongly.” Pang’s journey shows us that we can live up to what others expect of us and create our own bright future if we are strong and keep hope.

C. concrete horse images couldn’t represent the broad meaning of “horse”
D. Chinese characters are more popular among young people

Born with great challenges, Pang lived a hard life when he was a child. His father has a serious mental illness. His mother’s legs were cut off, so she could hardly move. Pang himself had a heart problem since he was born. He went door-to-door to borrow money for his mother’s illness. Now, Pang has written many important science papers and got patents(专利)for his inventions. His dream is to “serve the country through scientific research” and he works hard for this goal. His story lights the way for many people.
