As a proud grizzly bear, I say hello from Alaska. We eat anything we can get our paws on. One of my favourite meals is catching fresh salmon (鲑鱼). There’s nothing quite like the pleasure of a stomach full of fresh fish!
I’m a blue whale. I may eat up to 3.6million krill (磷虾) per day! You may wonder why such huge animals live on such tiny food? It’s because our mouths only have rows of baleen (鲸须). It lets water flow out while holding in tiny things.
I’m a hummingbird (蜂鸟). We eat flower nectar (蜜). We fly around a few thousand flowers each day to get as much food as possible. As we move our wings really fast, we burn through energy fast. So we need to keep feeding.
Hello~from~a~sloth (树懒) ~in~the ~South~America! Our favorite food? Low~energy leaves! Do we eat a lot? No. We slow-movers don’t need a lot of energy. Even our stomachs work so slowly that after a meal, we’re too tired to do anything but…sleep!

In a project called “My Kitchen Journey”, three students from Sunshine Middle School share their experiences of learning to cook.
I’ve been taking cooking classes at school. I’m still crazy about making food, even though it’s not always easy. Those cooking skills I’ve learnt are useful, especially when I have to make a meal with limited (受限制的) things. I’ve realized that to eat well, you need to keep learning to cook new dishes, not just a few dishes. Imagine you’re a musician—people will get tired of hearing even a great song, if it’s the only one you can play. The same goes for cooking.
I love watching my mum mix different things to make delicious dishes. I don’t think we need to stick to recipes strictly. And what matters is just trying things out. So when I cook, I often try something new and take notes of what I’ve done and what I’ve used—a bit like what I do in my Science classes! I’ve learnt a lot of cooking skills, but I know I still have more to learn.
Helping in the kitchen is fun. I can make simple things like pies for everyone. But I often make a mess. (Once, I even served my pie without the sauce!) My family are patient. They’ve given me the confidence to learn more cooking skills. Books help me a lot in my learning. I like to read cooking books in my room and go to the kitchen when I think I can manage some key recipes well.
59. According to Simon, what should we do to eat well?
A. Be a musician. B. Play a great song.
C. Cook more new dishes. D. Buy more cooking books.
60. Why does Amy think cooking is similar to studying Science?
A. She tests her dishes in a lab. B. She follows Mum’s suggestions.
C. She cooks with Math skills. D. She keeps trying and taking notes.
61. How does Daniel improve his cooking?
A. By reading and practicing. B. By taking cooking classes.
C. By watching his mum cook. D. By making delicious sauce.
62. What plays an important role in all the three cooking experiences?
A. Mixing different things. B. Learning cooking skills.
C. Reading different books. D. Having cooking lessons.
C
Relationships with your siblings (兄弟姐妹) can help you practice social skills. Having a good relationship with them can help you communicate with other people, and understand other people’s feelings. You can even learn things when you don’t get on with your siblings. When you have argued with them, you have to work out how to be in the same space as them. As a result, you often learn how to accept differences. It is very useful in the outside world.
It’s completely normal that sometimes you and your sibling won’t see eye to eye. “Have a good think about why the two of you don’t get on. Try to talk when you both cool down,” says Dr. Owen, a researcher in children’s development. “Tell them how you feel. You could say, ‘It really hurts me when you make jokes about me.’ If the trouble carries on, talk to a trusted adult (成年人).”
All families are different. What if you don’t have siblings? That doesn’t mean you won’t experience the advantages people get from having a brother or sister. There are ways to help only children develop these skills too.
63. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Advantages of having siblings. B. Causes of arguing with others.
C. Practices of accepting differences. D. Ways of building relationships.
64. What do the underlined words “see eye to eye” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Joke with each other. B. Hear from each other.
C. Agree with each other. D. Learn from each other.
65. What will probably be talked about next?
A. Why all families are different. B. When we can talk to a trusted adult.
C. What is important for communication. D. How only children develop social skills.
D
When I was young, flowers filled my mom’s garden each spring. I never thought that Mom had done much about them behind the scenes (幕后), until she shared her secret with me.
One day last November, Mom and I spent a whole morning planting flower bulbs (鳞茎), I dropped one in each hole and covered it over with soil. My fingers were numb (麻木的) by the time we finished. However, the ground looked just as empty of flower bulbs and as flat (平坦的) as it had been before. Then Mom told me to wait. I didn’t only wait—I watched. I watched hopefully all through the winter...
On the last day of April, I went outside to find the garden full of colorful flowers. Our hard work paid off.
“My boy, tomorrow morning,” Mom said, “we will walk the neighborhood and leave a basket of flowers on each doorstep.”
“What?” I almost cried. “Are we selling our flowers?”
“Of course not,” she said excitedly. “In fact, nobody will even know they’re from us. We’ll leave them at our neighbors’ as a surprise. Doesn’t that sound fun?”
“To me, it doesn’t sound fun at all” I replied unwillingly (不情愿地), “They’re our flowers. We should keep them for ourselves!”
“Flowers are like kindness,” Mom said, “Their beauty is meant to be shared.”
Early the next morning, Mom woke me up. We brought the baskets and stopped near the first house. I took one basket, set it by the doorstep and rang the bell. Then we quickly ran away, ducked behind the trees and waited.
Finally, the door opened. A man came out, looking surprised. He picked up the flower basket and then smiled. Mom hugged me. I got a good feeling inside. Now I knew what she meant about beauty sharing. I couldn’t wait to get to the next house.
By the time we got home, I was grinning (咧着嘴笑) from ear to ear. The garden was empty, but my heart was full.
66. How did the writer feel when he watched the garden during the winter?
A. Empty. B. Excited. C. Hopeful. D. Bored.
67. What happened to the baskets of flowers in the end?

A. Hard work, nice garden B. Colorful flowers, full baskets

The earth is our home. There are some ways that you and your family can use to help the planet and make a difference.
①Use less water. Take shorter showers. A 10-minute shower or a full bathtub (浴缸) can waste a lot of water. Also, turn off the tap as you brush your teeth. Use less water in the garden and let the rain clean cars.
②Avoid wasting food. Don’t take more than you can eat. About one-third of food in some areas is thrown out or wasted.
③Care and repair. Take good care of things you own and they will get a long life. If they break, try to repair them. If you can’t repair them, call a repairman. Producing new goods will add CO₂ to the air.
④Use reusable bags. Use plastic and paper bags more than once. When you go shopping, use cloth bags instead of plastic bags.
⑤Use fewer paper cups. Use reusable cups instead of throwaway paper cups if necessary. If you use more paper cups, you will produce more rubbish.
It is true that we have only one earth. Without the earth, we’ll have no place to live in. So let’s take action to do something useful for the planet in our daily life.
70. What should you do when something breaks?
A. Throw it away. B. Repair it if possible. C. Produce new goods. D. Take good care of it.
71. Which of the following is about reusing things?
A. ①④ B. ①⑤ C. ②③ D. ④⑤
72. Which statement is True according to the passage?
A. Turn on the tap when brushing teeth. B. Keep away from wasting water and food.
C. Repair things to add CO₂ to the air. D. Try to protect animals and plants.

On April 19, the world’s first half-marathon for humanoid (人形的) robots was held in Beijing. The robots waited beside human runners, starting from the same line.
“I saw many robots running. Some were surprisingly fast, others had very lovely designs, and their running styles were quite different,” said Zhang Huihui, who took part in the race.
During the 21-kilometer-long race, the robots had to run on two legs. Some even wore running shoes. Each robot was supported by a team of human guides, operators (操作员) and engineers. They could have their batteries changed during the race. Teams could even use new robots when the old ones could no longer run.
There were 20 teams in the race and six of them made it to the end. Tiangong Ultra won the first place in two hours and 40 minutes. “It crossed the finish line about 30 minutes earlier than expected,” said Xiong Youjun, CEO of a robot center. “In general, all the robots today could deal with challenges such as turns and speed bumps. A Healthy Diet
Dear classmates,
I’m Li Hua. I’m glad to be here to give a speech. My topic is “A Healthy Diet”.
A healthy diet provides us with enough energy for study and life. It also helps make our bodies strong and healthy. However, many students love eating sweet food, which is bad for their teeth. And fried food is popular too, but it can make us fat easily.
First, we should eat regularly. Second, eat more fruits and vegetables, which are rich in vitamins. Third, drink more milk and water instead of sugary drinks. Lastly, control the amount of food we eat and avoid overeating.
That’s all for my speech. Thank you for listening!
