Adventure Camp B When my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas, my reply was “The Famous Five series.” His first response was, “What’s that?” He knew about my life as a missionary (传道士) kid, moving so many times and not really being able to go home again. But he didn’t know my desire to connect with my past through the books I had enjoyed as a child. In Vienna, my older brother and I acquired the Famous Five series by the British author Enid Blyton in a bookstore. We enjoyed reading about the adventures of the “Five, siblings Julian, Dick, and Anne as well as their cousin Georgina and her dog Timothy. The stories feature strange plots — quite extraordinary, considering the heroes were mere teenagers! Unfortunately, when my family returned to the States, my parents were unable to bring most of heavy things with them, including the series. However, the loss was hidden in the back of my mind. Seventeen years after I’d left my treasured books behind, before the Christmas I decided I wanted to acquire them. The result got me frustrated. Christmas Eve arrived and my family sat around the Christmas tree to pick our own gift. I eyed a colorfully wrapped box, and guessed what it might be. “An elephant?” my daughter giggled. “Oh, let’s end the suspense!” I said, and began ripping off the wrapping. All twenty-one books in the series! I looked up at my husband, with tears dripping down my cheeks. I stammered (口吃), “Where did you get them?” My husband looked at me rather shyly and said, “India.” Imagine! What trouble he had taken to seek and get the Christmas gift. This gift did not just replace some of the many cherished items I had lost from my childhood, it signified the incredible love and devotion of my husband. Being a teacher, I had the entire Christmas break to read through all the books. Throughout my marathon of reading, I felt like I was returning home. 4. How did the husband feel when he knew what his wife wanted for Christmas? A. Funny. B. Surprised. C. Disappointed. D. Excited. 5. According to the author, what’s special about the books? A. They were written by a British writer. B. The adventure stories were attracting. C. The main characters were all in teens. D. They were about a dog named Timothy. 6. Why didn’t the parents bring the books to America? A. Because they were too heavy. B. Because they were out of date for the children. C. Because they were accessible in America. D. Because they were hidden somewhere in the room. 7. What made the author desire to get a new version of the books? A. That the books were written by her favorite writer. B. That the books could help her in teaching. C. That her daughter showed interest in the stories. D. That the books reminded her of her childhood. C At Myosin Marketing in Austin, Texas, the group employee meeting begins with an uncommon activity for a workplace. The members gather on Zoom (视频) and the head of the company, Sean Clayton, leads them through a deep-breathing exercise. Studies show there are many benefits to deep breathing. It can be an effective way to reduce tension, or stress, at work, reducing anxiety, lowering a person’s blood pressure and giving you something to focus on — your breathing. Experts say that this can help to calm racing thoughts. Focusing on breathing for one to five minutes can help you clear your mind and let you “get back to focusing on the one thing you want to accomplish,” said Glenn Levine, a heart and blood system doctor and professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Long-lasting stress, which can be as harmful as secondhand smoke, can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. A good way to do deep breathing exercises is outside, Levine said. However, if that is not possible, doing them at a desk works. “Instead of focusing on the screen or work, just focus on your breathing. If possible,” Levine said, “close your eyes.” Even very busy people can find time for daily breathing exercises. When we slow down our breath, we send a signal to our brain that everything’s OK, even when it’s not. It is the best thing that you can do at work before you have a meeting, before you send out an email that you wish you didn’t send, before you have a difficult conversation, because it just calms you down, getting rid of your negative energy. People in stressful jobs including firefighters, police and doctors can benefit from it. Employers such as Coca-Cola, Mattel and Netflix have practiced breathing exercises at work. Carlisle, a sales representative, sets a timer on her phone telling her to breathe deeply. She also keeps a note near her computer that simply says “Breathe.” “The anxiety is always going to be there,” Carlisle said. “But at least I know I have one small tool... It sounds so simple and silly, but it works.” 8. Why is Myosin Marketing mentioned in the first paragraph? A. Because it is a well-known company. B. Because it provides context for the following study. C. Because its boss gets on well with the workers. D. Because its employees all work on the Internet. 9. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Steps of calming racing thoughts. B. Findings of medicine experts. C. Risks of heart disease and stroke. D. Advantages of deep breathing. 10. Why are firefighters advised to slow down their breath? A. Because it helps them to overcome their stress. B. Because it gets rid of their tiredness. C. Because it makes them happy to team up with each other. D. Because it improves the function of their lungs. 11 What’s Carlisle’s effective way to get rid of anxiety? A. To have a small talk with customers. B. To play games on her computer. C. To keep a note of the tasks. D. To take a deep-breathing exercise. D Can all children become musical? How can we know who has “what it takes” to become a musician? Psy-chological research has showed much about human musical development. It’s commonly believed that musical ability is rare within the general population, but the truth is that a different (more musical) brain results from engagement in music activity. Many studies show how the brain is improved by experience. Musical ability is a set of musical skills that people develop. Research has identified a number of factors that are powerful contributors to musical skill acquisition. Individual differences in physiological (生理的) characteristics affect the development of musicality. In a plainly evident example, children born deaf will surely come to understand music very differently from those born with typical hearing. It also has been suggested that children with a particular sensitivity to sound may be especially attracted to music in their environments, which would likely aid musical development. Most physiological characteristics relevant to musical development, such as temper and personality are more environmentally determined and situationally displayed. Simple exposure to music marks the beginning of people’s musical development. Surely children can experience very different levels of musical exposure in their lives, ranging from musically rich environments — perhaps where music is often heard — to environments where music is never present. Greater exposure leads to a better understanding of music, which amounts to a better mind-and-brain readiness for additional growth and learning. For young people whose early environments include many opportunities surrounding music, their development can quickly snowball. Learning is also a way to require musical skills. Formal education can be a positive and powerful contributor to musical development. However, informal means have also been working well. Whether in a formal or informal situation, some learning can occur without learners devoting conscious attention. More advanced knowledge and skill acquisition, however, requires learners to apply much attention and effort. As a whole, psychological research supports a clear account of the development of musicality. Most children are born with the full capacity to engage with music, but many do not experience the main factors needed to reach the height of professional musicians. 12. What makes a musician stand out? A. The talent with birth. B. Experience in music practice. C. Personal desire. D. Good opportunities. 13. What does the third paragraph mainly tell us? A. Physiological characteristics can help in developing music skills. B. Children born deaf usually have a gift for music. C. Musical development has something to do with the environment. D. Musical ability is absolutely determined by physiological characteristics. 14. Which of the following can best explain the underlined word in the fourth paragraph? A. Reduce. B. Stop. C. Grow. D. Change. 15. What is the best title for the passage? A. What It Takes for a Child to Be a Musician? B. It Matters whether a Child Has a Talent for Music. C. Music Is for Every One. D. Talent Makes a Musician. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When there is no money for self-improvement, pay attention to your internal resources. ____16____. Our out-of-town guests would be arriving shortly, and my children would soon be off for Christmas break. My list of things that needed to be bought, baked, cooked, decorated, or wrapped was a mile long, and I was running out of time. I grabbed a pencil and paper and began to devise a plan of attack. With a little luck and some careful planning, I might be able to get it all done before December 25th. While sitting at the kitchen table writing out the last of my Christmas cards, a sad thought crossed my mind, which wouldn’t go away and was making my heart heavy. I had heard that the husband of one of our school moms had walked out on his family, leaving them financially struggling and emotionally depressed. The mom’s name was Becky. Her daughter rode on the school bus with my three children. Several of us moms dropped our kids off at the school bus every morning and collected them after school at the same place. We would chat with each other while we waited for the bus to arrive before and after school. Becky had a kind and gentle way about her, but she seemed shy. She never joined the rest of us while we chatted. I don’t know what made me think of it, but I couldn’t get Becky out of my mind. My heart broke for her and her daughter, and I wondered what Christmas would be like for them this year. For some unknown reasons, I felt led to do something that I did not feel at all comfortable doing. I would ask the moms at the bus stop to contribute some money toward Christmas gifts for Becky and her daughter. This horrified me because asking people for money was not something I ever did. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 The next morning, the usual group of ladies was at the bus stop waiting in their cars. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day my good friend Sharon helped me shop for Christmas gifts and food items. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2025高二1月期末考试 高二英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 回答听力部分时,请先将答案标在试卷上。听力部分结束前,你将有两分钟的时间将你的答案转涂到客观题答题卡上。 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. I took a deep breath, summoned up my courage, and approached them. With a shaky voice, I shared Becky’s situation and my idea of collecting money for Christmas gifts. To my surprise, everyone was supportive and immediately reached into their purses, pulling out cash and notes. Some even offered to help with wrapping the gifts or providing additional assistance. The sense of community and kindness warmed my heart, and I felt grateful for these wonderful women who were willing to lend a hand to those in need. The next day, my good friend Sharon helped me shop for Christmas gifts and food items. We went from store to store, carefully selecting items that we thought Becky and her daughter would love. We bought toys, clothes, and even a small Christmas tree to brighten up their home. Sharon also helped me wrap the gifts beautifully. As we finished, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction and joy. We had turned a difficult situation into a heartwarming one, and I knew that Becky and her daughter would have a Merry Christmas after all. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
