If you’re visiting from outside mainland China you’ll most likely need a Tourist Visa (签证) or L visa. Here’s what you need to know to make sure your visit goes smoothly.
Do You Need a Visa?
●Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau residents: You’ll need to apply for a Mainland Travel Permit, which is different from a Tourist Visa.
●Passport holders from most countries: A Tourist Visa (L) is required for entering China.
●240-hour visa-free stopover policy: At check-in, travelers can simply show their valid (有效的) travel documents and a date-and seat-confirmed connecting flight (中转航班) ticket that departs within 240 hours after they arrive.
Unless your trip qualifies for one of the specific visa-free programs, you’ll need to apply for an L visa in advance.
How to Apply for a Tourist Visa
You are supposed to apply through the Chinese Embassy (大使馆) or Visa Center in your country and submit:
●A valid passport (with at least 6 months validity left)
●Completed visa application form
●Recent passport-style photo
●Supporting documents for travel arrangements (e.g., round-trip air ticket and hotel booking)
Some embassies now require in-person appointments to have your fingerprints taken, so don’t leave it to the last minute.
Tourist Visa Processing Time and Cost
●Processing time: Usually 4-7 working days. A faster choice (2-3 days) is available for an extra fee.
●Cost varies by nationality. For example, for U.S. passport holders, the fee is about $140, while for others it ranges from $30 — 60.
Getting your Tourist Visa is the first step to start your magical trip to China. Once that’s in hand, you’ll be ready to experience its efficient public transport, friendly locals, splendid scenery and modern cities like Shanghai.

By this point in the summer, I should be picking a full basket of produce each morning and everyone I meet is offered cucumbers (黄瓜), but not this summer.
It is a crazy year. The garden has been looking beautiful. The flowers are doing exceptionally well, but the vegetables are growing slowly. Besides the cucumbers, both the beans and the tomatoes are slow to mature. Sadly, my quinoa (藜麦) plants, which were doing really well until two weeks ago, are now dying from the heat.
Yes, it’s the extreme heat. The plants slowed their growth in the heat and the fruit is taking forever to ripen. When they do produce, their produce can be smaller than usual. I am definitely seeing this with my beans. Then there are the tomatoes. They are sunburned, or worse, half rotten (腐烂) from all the rain.
That brings me to my next challenge — constant rain. Every summer we deal with drought, but this year it is rain. It has been wonderful not having to water the garden, but too much proves deadly for most of my pumpkin plants. Their shallow roots are rotten. I have also noticed symptoms of overwatering in my other plants, such as dahlias and mulberry trees.
Needless to say, this year has tried my patience. However, I have learned from many others that I am not alone. They are having bean plants that are slow to produce and cucumbers that are full of flowers but not fruit. A part of me finds comfort in hearing that, yet I still feel frustrated at the sight of my empty cupboards, which my garden usually fills each summer.
But that frustration will never stop me from devoting myself to my garden. The process of gardening mirrors our own life journey, with its ups and downs, challenges and successes. Years of looking after my garden have taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, patience and adaptability — lessons in accepting whatever nature throws at me, and appreciating the beauty and complexity of life.
4. What’s wrong with the author’s cucumbers?
A. They are slow to flower. B. They have a poor harvest.
C. They are rotten in the field. D. They suffer from drought.
5. What has caused the vegetables to grow slowly this summer?
A. The extreme heat. B. Too much rain.
C. The shallow soil. D. Lack of proper care.
6. What makes the author feel a little better?
A. The process of looking after her plants. B. The comfort provided by her neighbors.
C. The good memory of her full cupboards. D. The shared experience of other gardeners.
7. Which of the following may the author agree with?
A. Better late than never. B. Practice makes perfect.
C. Take things as they come. D. All roads lead to Rome.

Have you ever pictured eating freshly cooked food in space? For decades, this seemed like an impossible dream. Astronauts could only eat pre-packaged meals that were made and sealed (密封) on Earth. But in November 2025, a revolutionary change took place aboard China’s Tiangong Space Station when astronauts successfully roasted chicken wings and steak using a special baking device.
This achievement marks humanity’s first real space cooking overcoming challenges beyond simple meal reheating. The main barrier was microgravity. Without Earth’s gravity, hot air doesn’t rise, making it impossible to cook food evenly (均匀地). This problem was clearly shown in 2019 when astronauts on the International Space Station tried to bake cookies. What normally takes 18 minutes on Earth required two hours in space, with poor results. Additionally, cooking produces gases and oil smoke that could dangerously pollute the space station’s sealed environment.
The solution came in the form of a smartly designed baking machine. Engineers solved the heating problem by putting in an intelligent fan to circulate (循环) air artificially cooking food evenly in just 28 minutes. For the gas issue, they developed a built-in cleaning system that breaks down harmful materials and releases only clean air. Although we can now roast food in space, however, more complex cooking methods like stir-frying remain challenging. Future research will focus on developing fully self-working cooking systems.
Beyond the technical achievement, this breakthrough has important psychological benefits. The familiar smells and activities of cooking provide comfort to astronauts during long missions, helping reduce feelings of loneliness and stress. In other words, this progress from basic nutrition to enjoyable dining experiences shows that even when far from Earth, the comfort of freshly prepared food remains essential to human well-being. As we continue to explore space, such innovations will play a significant role in making long-term space missions more sustainable and comfortable for astronauts from all nations.
8. What limited astronauts to pre-packaged meals for so long?
A. The concerns over food safety. B. The lack of cooking equipment.
C. The high cost of space experiment. D. The existence of technical barriers.
9. Why is the 2019 cookie-baking attempt mentioned?
A. To compare Earth and space cooking time.
B. To show the popularity of baked food in space.
C. To stress the importance of cooking experience.
D. To illustrate the failure due to the lack of gravity.
10. How was the uneven cooking problem solved?
A. By setting up an internal cleaning device. B. By using a device to create air circulation.
C. By inventing self-working cooking systems. D. By shortening the cooking time significantly.
11. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning the breakthrough?
A. Its broader psychological value. B. Its improvement of astronauts’ cooking skills.
C. Its important technical advantages. D. Its role in promoting international cooperation.

Deep in the evergreen jungle of Thailand’s DPKY National Park, a trap is waiting to catch a tiger. Luckily for the big cat, this trap isn’t set by hunters: it’s the work of conservationists trying to save the species.
With just 20 to 30 tigers living in the Park, this effort is essential to protecting the “last of the last” of its Indochinese tigers. While tiger populations in other parks are growing, DPKY’s tiger population has remained stagnant, despite enough space for expansion. “If the forest is in good condition, the population should increase,” says Rattapan, a conservation program manager.
To investigate why the tiger population isn’t growing, conservationists earlier this year used traps to catch three tigers — an adult male, named Srikose, and two younger sisters, Chantra and Pianporn — and fitted GPS collars (颈圈)on them. With the help of the collars, the researchers were able to track each tiger’s home range, movement patterns and kill sites — which revealed the remains (残留物) of “strange prey (猎物),” as Rattapan put it.
Tigers typically hunt large animals that can reach up to 350 kilograms. But the three tigers have been eating smaller mammals like deer, some weighing as little as 10 kilograms. This proves the findings of a study published last year, which highlighted that the lack of large prey affects tigers’ hunting habits.
One of the tigers, Chantra, is smaller in size than her sister Pianporn, and her home range is just 24 square kilometers, less than half the size of her sister’s. Tigers with larger home ranges are likely to be “more selective” about their food, resulting in larger prey and a larger body size, which makes hunting for bigger meals easier.
While the GPS collaring project is still in its early stages, it has revealed some tigers’ changed hunting habits and offered clues to help conservationists secure their future. Rattapan is optimistic that it can help them focus their efforts to help tiger numbers grow.
12. What does the underlined word “stagnant” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Unchanged. B. Unhealthy. C. Unclear. D. Unprotected.
13. What do researchers find about the three tigers?
A. They are picky about food. B. They feed on large animals.
C. They are short of large prey. D. They hunt animals together.
14. What is Rattapan’s attitude towards the GPS collaring project?
A. Favourable. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Disapproving.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Conservationists Popularizes a GPS Project
B. GPS Collars Reveal “Strange Prey” for Tigers
C. “Traps” are Set to Hunt the Endangered Tigers
D. GPS Technology Guarantees Tiger Conservation

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
You wake up, check your phone, and your to-do list screams for attention. You tiredly push through endless work, driven by coffee, willpower and fear of falling behind — if this sounds familiar, you are not alone. ____16____ Yet here lies a paradox (悖论): pushing harder doesn’t necessarily bring greater success.
____17____ Research shows mental performance drops after about 90 minutes of intense focus. The brain needs cycles of focus and recovery, but many ignore this, leading to burnout. History’s great thinkers understood this. Einstein played violin when stuck; Churchill napped during wartime. These strategic pauses activated the brain’s problem-solving networks.
These findings challenge “addition thinking” — the belief that to achieve more, you must do more. ____18____ For example, cancelling meetings that are not necessary is often more effective than adding more. Work smarter with focused time. Doing less can be the smartest way to do more.
Relying only on willpower is misleading. ____19____ A more sustainable (可持续的) approach is to develop “flow states,” where work feels effortless and efficiency increases. To enter flow: clear distractions, pick tasks that match your skills, and switch between deep work and real breaks.
To put this into practice, review your tasks. Cut those that cost energy but add little value. Group work into focused blocks and protect time for rest. Make it a habit — for example, stop one repeated task that no longer helps. Success isn’t about how much you do. ____20____
A. It leads you to more focused time.
B. Our brain is not for nonstop output.
C. Instead, add more meaningful work.
D. Our society often praises being on the go.
E. It’s about what you choose to concentrate on.
F. Actually, it operates like a muscle that wears out.
G. However, true productivity lies in cutting unnecessary parts.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For three years, I walked past the same homeless man outside the cafe, usually after picking up a morning coffee for Dad. Dad walked with a stick — a daily reminder of the car crash he’d survived five years before. He still spoke often of the stranger who had pulled him from the broken car on that dark night. “I could only remember there was a long scar (伤疤) down his neck,” Dad would say. “It’s a pity I have never got the chance to thank him.”
The homeless man was always there, reading a book quietly. He never begged but would pick up rubbish along the street without a word. It’s said that a terrible accident had taken his wife and daughter years before. Stricken by sorrow, he had lost his practice as a doctor and eventually his home. Sometimes when he bent down, I’d notice he intentionally hid his neck, usually with a collar pulled up. But I never made the connection.
People mostly ignored him. One morning, I saw a little boy try to hand him a bread roll. Before the man could even look up, the boy’s mother, whose brown, wavy hair seemed to shake angrily, grabbed the roll back and pulled her son away. “Don’t share food with people like that,” she shouted loudly, wiping the boy’s hand with a tissue. The homeless man just lowered his head and went back to his book, as if he had expected nothing else.
Until one cold afternoon, everything changed. Dad was feeling better lately and could take short walks outside. That day, we were walking by the lake near the cafe when we heard a scream. A young boy had slipped into the icy water. His mother ran toward the edge, her brown, wavy hair flying — it was the same woman. “Help! My child!” she cried, her voice breaking with panic. The boy struggled in the water, his thick coat pulling him under. Without thinking, I rushed forward — but someone was faster.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
It was the homeless man.

【46题答案】
【答案】Dear Mr. Smith,
I'm writing to share my ideas for the color scheme of the new AI study room.
I strongly recommend light blue and light gray as the main colors. Light blue has a calming effect on our minds, helping us stay focused, relieve anxiety and improve study efficiency, which is ideal for long-hour learning. Light gray appears simple and high-tech, perfectly matching the AI-themed room, and it creates a neat atmosphere without distracting us.
The combination of the two colors builds a quiet, modern and comfortable learning space. I hope my suggestions will be helpful.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

【47题答案】
【答案】范文
It was the homeless man. Without hesitation, he took off his coat and jumped into the freezing lake. The icy water made him tremble, but he swam swiftly toward the struggling boy. Fighting against the cold current, he reached the boy, wrapped his arm around him, and struggled to swim back to the shore. With all his strength, he lifted the boy onto the bank, then collapsed, gasping for breath. His collar slipped down, revealing a long, deep scar stretching down his neck.
My father saw the scar too and shouted, “It’s him!” He walked over quickly with his stick, his voice full of excitement and gratitude. The homeless man, still wet and shivering, looked up in surprise. Dad told him how he had pulled him out of the car crash five years ago, and that he had been longing to thank him. The man smiled gently, saying he had just done what anyone should. The mother, overwhelmed with guilt and thanks, kept apologizing and bowing to him. That day, a cold winter afternoon turned warm, as a long-overdue thank-you was finally said, and kindness came full circle.
