According to Tsinghua University’s official website on October 18, 2025, the world lost a great physicist when Yang Zhenning passed away in Beijing at the age of 103. Tsinghua University, where he had worked for many years, issued an obituary (讣告) calling him “one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century” and emphasizing his outstanding contributions to modern physics.
Yang Zhenning’s academic career was filled with groundbreaking achievements. In 1954, he and his collaborator Robert Mills put forward the Yang-Mills gauge Field Theory. This theory is so important that it is compared with Einstein’s general theory of relativity and Maxwell’s equations, and it lays the foundation for the later Standard Model of particle physics. Another famous contribution was his work on parity non-conservation in weak interactions, which he developed with Li Zhengdao. This revolutionary idea changed people’s understanding of symmetry (对称) in physics and earned them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957.
Beyond his scientific work, Yang Zhenning had a deep affection for his motherland. As early as 1971, when Sino-US relations were beginning to improve, he returned to China for a visit. This trip had a huge impact and encouraged many Chinese scholars living abroad to come back and serve the country. In 1999, he officially became a professor at Tsinghua University and later served as the honorary director of the university’s Institute for Advanced Study. Even in his 80s, he still taught undergraduate courses and worked hard to cultivate young physics talents.
In 2021, Yang Zhenning donated more than 2,000 pieces of his collection, including books, manuscripts and images, to Tsinghua University, which set up a special “Yang Zhenning Resource Room” to preserve these precious materials.
24. What is the significance of the Yang-Mills gauge Field Theory?
A. It won Yang Zhenning the Nobel Prize alone.
B. It changed people’s understanding of gravity.
C. It laid the foundation for the Standard Model of particle physics.
D. It was developed when Yang Zhenning worked at Tsinghua University.
25. Why did Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao win the Nobel Prize in Physics?
A. For proposing the idea of parity non-conservation.
B. For developing the Yang-Mills gauge Field Theory.
C. For establishing the Standard Model of particle physics.
D. For donating precious materials to Tsinghua University.
26. What did Yang Zhenning do after 1999?
A. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
B. He first returned to China for a visit.
C. He put forward the Yang-Baxter Equation.
D. He cultivated talents at Tsinghua University.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Yang Zhenning’s outstanding career.
B. Yang Zhenning’s officially recognized work.
C. Yang Zhenning’s academically devoted life.
D. Yang Zhenning’s deep love for China.

In a significant discovery, mosquitoes have been detected in Iceland for the first time. This event is closely linked to the ongoing changes in our global climate. The first mosquito was spotted by an Icelandic insect enthusiast, who noticed a “strange fly” and shared his finding online. Following this, scientists confirmed the presence of three mosquitoes in the country. The identified species is Culiseta annulata, a type of mosquito known for its tolerance to colder climates. It is commonly found across Europe, including the UK, and has also established itself in parts of North America. This mosquito often lays its eggs in artificial containers like rain barrels or abandoned tires, which helps it spread to new areas.
What makes this discovery particularly significant is that Iceland was previously one of the few places in the world, alongside Antarctica, without mosquitoes. The country’s cold climate and specific ecological conditions, especially the absence of the warm, stagnant (不流动的) water needed for breeding, had kept them away. However, this is changing. Iceland is warming at an alarming rate, much faster than the global average, creating conditions that can now support these insects.
The arrival of mosquitoes is more than just a nuisance, it is a public health concern. Mosquitoes are well-known carriers of various diseases. As global temperatures rise, these insects can expand their range and breed more efficiently, increasing the risk of transmitting illnesses. Warmer weather accelerates the development of mosquitoes and the pathogens (病原体) they carry, while higher humidity and increased rainfall create more breeding habitats.
Experts describe climate change as a “perfect storm” for the spread of mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. It affects nearly every part of their life cycle, from breeding to biting rates. This discovery in Iceland was made possible by a “citizen scientist”, highlighting how public involvement is crucial in tracking environmental changes. Scientists encourage people to use special apps to report mosquito sightings, helping to monitor their spread in a warming world.
28 What is implied about the fact that the mosquito was discovered in Iceland?
A. It shows the discovery of a citizen scientist.
B. It reflects global climate impacts.
C. It confirms a new species in Europe.
D. It highlights insect enthusiasts’ efforts.
29. Why is Culiseta annulata able to breed in new regions?
A. It has strong adaptability to warmer climates.
B. It relies on natural water bodies for breeding.
C. It is influenced directly by human activities.
D. It has a faster reproductive rate than other species.
30. What can we infer about Iceland before the discovery of mosquitoes?
A. It had warm stagnant water.
B. It was as warm as North America.
C. It had many mosquito species.
D. Its climate was unsuitable for mosquitoes.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Mosquitoes in Iceland: A Sign of Global Climate Change
B. citizen Scientists, Key to Environmental Monitoring
C. Culiseta annulata: A New Species Invading Europe
D. Iceland’s Ecological Shift: From Mosquito-Free to Risky

Gary Koppelman, a science teacher of Blissfield Community School, Michigan, established the Blissfield Environmental Life Lab (BELL), where students have a hands-on, minds-on experience that stimulates their learning and broadens their perspectives, and for this work he has earned numerous awards. His discoveries about his own learning challenged him to design an alternative (可替代的) method to teach science to all young children, including those who struggle with the lectures, textbooks, and occasional lab experiments of the traditional academic setting, like he did.
“All lessons should start with the interests of young children” is how Koppelman sums up the concept behind what he calls his “hands-on, minds-on” teaching approach. He tries to provide daily opportunities for students to engage with the natural world, ask questions, collect and analyze data, and work with their partners to come up with answers.
In Koppelman’s view, children are born with all the qualities of a good scientist: They are curious, eager to investigate their surroundings, and happy to experiment. But too many students enter elementary school classrooms which extinguish their passion with lessons that are disconnected from their lives and the natural world around them.
“Inquiry driven science classrooms are rare in elementary grades,” says John L. Rudolph, the author of How We Teach Science: What’s Changed, and Why It Matters. The approach requires “more teacher training, funding, and complex assessments, but the payoff is worth it,” Rudolph says. Not only do students learn critical thinking and communication skills, but also they develop a deep understanding of how scientists come up with evidence and develop conclusions in these inquiry-driven science classrooms, which Rudolph views as a largely ignored part of science education.
The impact of Koppelman’s Environmental Life Lab has been huge. The district has constantly outperformed state averages on standardized science tests, and more of the district’s students are going on to major in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields in college.
32. Which is the idea guiding Koppelman’s teaching approach?
A. Interest is the best teacher.
B. Critical thinking should be avoided.
C Students should be encouraged to study alone.
D. Lab experiments and projects should be used.
33. What does the underlined word “extinguish” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Follow. B. Show.
C. Discover. D. Destroy.
34. What does Rudolph say about the inquiry-driven science classroom?
A. It is fairly easy to carry out.
B. It is worthwhile to apply it to practice.
C. It inspires students to assess themselves.
D. It gains popularity in elementary schools.
35. What is the author’s attitude toward Koppelman’s teaching approach?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Neutral.

第二节 读后续写 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A month before my high school, I was given the best gift ever — a smartphone from my parents. All summer my eyes were glued to its bright screen. I texted while walking, watched videos during dinner, and slept with the screen glowing under my pillow. I ignored my family and my surroundings. Being connected was more important than being present.
Then Dad ruined everything. One night, he slapped a road map on the dinner table and announced, “This year, we’ll be doing something special. We’re going camping!” His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh. It wasn’t my dream vacation because my mind was on my phone. Still, the next morning we packed the van and left the city. I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
For the first two hours I didn’t look up once — until my phone no longer had service. In panic, I lifted my head. Out of the window stood giant redwoods like quiet guards, their branches threatening to pierce (刺破) the blue sky. I saw a roaring river, with slivers of silky black water appearing between crashing white rapids. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot. But none of that mattered to me.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. Dad met my eyes in the mirror and said he had chosen a campsite that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of teenage emotions during the first day of the trip. I raged (发怒). I bargained. I begged. I flip-flopped (转变) from a depressive state to anger and back.
That night I threw myself into the sleeping bag like a prisoner. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Instead of concentrating on my phone all the time, I focused on something else: my surroundings.

28. What is implied about the fact that the mosquito was discovered in Iceland?
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. A

C. Students should be encouraged to study alone.
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Neutral.
【答案】32. A 33. D 34. B 35. C
根据第二段““All lessons should start with the interests of young children” is how Koppelman sums up the concept behind what he calls his “hands-on, minds-on” teaching approach.(科普尔曼用“所有课程都应该从孩子们的兴趣出发”来总结他所谓的“动手、动脑”教学方法背后的理念)”可知,指导科普尔曼教学方法的理念是兴趣是最好的老师。故选A项。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“In Koppelman’s view, children are born with all the qualities of a good scientist: They are curious, eager to investigate their surroundings, and happy to experiment. But too many students enter elementary school classrooms which extinguish their passion with lessons that are disconnected from their lives and the natural world around them.(在科普尔曼看来,孩子们天生具备优秀科学家的所有特质:他们充满好奇,渴望探索周围环境,乐于做实验。但太多学生进入小学课堂后,那些与他们的生活以及周围自然世界脱节的课程extinguish了他们的热情)”可知,此处表示脱节的课程对孩子们的热情起到负面作用。由此可知,划线词extinguish与destroy“摧毁”意思接近。故选D项。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“The approach requires “more teacher training, funding, and complex assessments, but the payoff is worth it,” Rudolph says.(鲁道夫说,这种方法需要“更多的教师培训、资金和复杂的评估,但回报是值得的”)”可知,鲁道夫认为将探究式科学课堂应用到实践中是值得的。故选B项。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“The impact of Koppelman’s Environmental Life Lab has been huge. The district has constantly outperformed state averages on standardized science tests, and more of the district’s students are going on to major in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields in college.(科普尔曼的环境生活实验室产生了巨大影响。该学区在标准化科学测试中一直高于州平均水平,而且该学区有更多学生在大学继续主修科学、技术、工程和数学(STEM)领域)”可知,作者列举了该教学方法带来的积极成果。由此推知,作者对科普尔曼的教学方法持支持态度。故选C项。

【39题详解】
根据上文“Your beliefs are like the steering wheel for your life.(你的信念就像人生的方向盘)”以及下文“If you want to make more friends but believe “nobody likes me”, you will act in ways that push people away.(如果你想交更多朋友,却坚信“没人喜欢我”,你的行为就会不自觉地把人推开)”可知,此空需要解释信念如同方向盘的具体含义,即信念决定人生方向。A选项They determine the direction your life will take(它们决定了你人生的发展方向)中的“They”指代前文的“Your beliefs”,承接比喻句并阐释其内涵,同时引出下文的具体事例,符合语境。故选A项。
【40题详解】
根据上文“Finally, it’s important to create a positive environment for your mind.(最后,为你的大脑营造一个积极的环境至关重要)”以及下文“When you make these actions a habit, you train your mind to focus on the good things in life, which helps you achieve your goals more easily.(当你将这些行为养成习惯时,你就在训练自己的大脑关注生活中的美好事物,这会帮助你更轻松地实现目标)”可知,此空需要说明如何为大脑营造积极环境,且引出下文的“these actions”。B选项This means paying attention to your words and actions every day(这意味着留意你每一天的言语和行为)承接前文“营造积极大脑环境”的观点,同时“言语和行为”对应下文的“these actions”,符合语境。故选B项。

One night he slapped a road map on the dinner table and announced, “This year, we’ll be doing something special.
In panic I lifted my head.
注意:
1. 续写词数应150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Instead of concentrating on my phone all the time, I focused on something else: my surroundings.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next four days passed quickly with many fun activities.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Para 1:
Instead of concentrating on my phone all the time, I focused on something else: my surroundings. I stepped out of the tent and saw the redwoods wearing thin gold scarves of morning light. Taking a deep breath, I could feel the air was cool and sweet. My anger was turned into peace. Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the breathtaking scenery that unfolded below me. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.
Para 2:
The next four days passed quickly with many fun activities. My dad and I learned how to make a fire together after several tries. We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted. We hiked to a waterfall, its mist cooling our faces after the long walk. Dad told silly stories about his childhood, and even Mom joined in with jokes. When the weekend came to an end, I realized I hadn’t thought of my phone once. It dawned on me that what mattered most were the moments I was sharing with just my family and nature, and that camping trip was also one of the best gifts I’d ever gotten.
