“Why are you crying?” asked the Swallow.
“When I was alive, I lived happily in a palace and never saw sadness,” said the statue. “Now I stand here and can see all the sadness of the city. Though my heart is made of lead (铅), it makes me cry.”
He told the Swallow about a poor woman in a small house. Her little boy was sick and asking for oranges, but she had only water to give him. The Prince asked the Swallow to take the ruby (红宝石) from his body and give it to them.
At first, the Swallow did not want to stay because his friends were waiting for him in Egypt. But the Prince looked so sad that the Swallow agreed to help.
He took the ruby and flew to the poor woman’s house. He placed the ruby on her table and fanned the sick boy with his wings. The boy felt cooler and fell asleep.
When the Swallow returned, he told the Prince what he had done. Even though the night was cold, the Swallow felt warm inside.

Can you imagine borrowing sounds from a library, just like you borrow books? A new kind of library known as a “Sound Library” is making this possible in some cities around the world. These libraries collect and share all kinds of sounds that are part of our lives and culture.
In a sound library, you won’t find shelves full of books. Instead, you can borrow audio files or use special listening stations. The collection includes natural sounds like bird songs from a local forest, street sounds from a busy market, traditional music, and even the voices of community elders telling old stories. Some libraries also allow people to record and donate (捐赠) their own sounds, creating a living collection that everyone can enjoy.
Why is this important? In our age, many sounds are missing. Old machines, local languages, and natural environments are changing or being lost. Sound libraries help to save these “audio memories” for the future. They also remind us to listen carefully to our world.
Sound libraries are more than just museums for sound. They are community centers where people connect through listening. For students, the collection—from the quiet sound of rain to the cheerful noise of a playground or the special tone of an instrument—offers a vivid way to learn about history, science, and culture. These sounds tell the story of who we are and how we live together.
28.What is a “Sound Library” mainly about?
A.Lending music CDs and movies. B.Selling audio games.
C.A quiet place for reading books. D.Collecting and sharing different sounds.

A.They are replacing traditional book libraries completely.
B.They care more about modern music than old sounds.
C.They value the sounds from people’s daily lives.
D.They are only for scientists and researchers.
30.What is one main reason for creating sound libraries?
A.To forget traditional book libraries.
B.To teach people how to record music.
C.To save missing sounds for the future.
D.To ask people to read more books.
31.What does the word “vivid” most probably mean?
A.Clear and lively. B.Easy and fast.
C.Quiet and peaceful. D.Old and traditional.

Do you often have negative thoughts? Do you and your friends often complain about things? 36
Find the positive, however small.
Bad things happen to all of us, but the most important thing is to focus on the positive. For example, next time you are caught in traffic, think about how great it is that you can finish listening to your favorite music. If you don’t have much in your fridge, get creative and think of what you can make with the ingredients you have.
Focus on now.
It’s easy to think too much about things that have already happened and to get worried about what will happen tomorrow. 37 But remember, you can’t change the past, and no one can control the future, so the best thing is to focus on the present.
Find positive friends and partners.
38 Spend time with people who will make you laugh and help you believe in yourself, not those who spend all day complaining. It’s hard to feel negative when you have positive people around you.
Be kind to others.
One of the best ways to make yourself feel good is to help others. 39 Spending time helping other people can give you a better perspective (视角) on life and make you value what you have.
A.We all do this sometimes.
B.Always remind yourself to work hard.
C.It can be exciting to try something new.
D.Find ways to volunteer in your community.
E.The following can help you feel positive about life.
F.Being around negative people will make you feel negative, too.
Nowadays, customers can easily get help by clicking (点击) on the customer service of a website or calling the customer service hotline when they meet trouble. However, “AI customer service” usually comes before you talk to a real human.
Here are good reasons for companies (公司) to use AI customer service. It helps companies to save money and improve efficiency. AI customer service works all day and night without rest. This means fewer human workers are needed and it saves a great deal of money. What’s more, it understands and answers customers’ questions quickly, so customers don’t wait long. It can talk to many people at the same time, solving more problems every day.
However, it is not always happy to talk with AI. Here is what Tom experienced yesterday when he tried to get manual (人工的) service online.
“Why is it so difficult to get manual service now? Are there human workers online? AI is trying its best to get in my way!” Tom said to CCTV news.
Besides the trouble Tom met, there are other problems for AI customer service. AI customer service can’t always understand hard questions. When a problem is too complex (复杂的), it may give wrong or useless answers. Also, AI has no real feelings. It can’t understand a customer’s sadness or anger. When people are upset, talking to AI can make them feel worse because it only gives fixed (固定的) replies, not real care.
AI service should make the communication between people more efficient but not more difficult. “AI is greatly changing and shaping the world in 2025 to a new direction, but we should never make AI customer service a talking wall”, reports CCTV news.
40.Does “AI customer service” come before a real human when getting customer service?
41.Why do companies use AI customer service?
42.According to the passage, what are the problems of AI customer service?
43.Besides customer service, what other things do you think AI can help with or bring trouble to? Why?
For years, most people believed plants lived quiet, passive (被动的) lives. However, recent research 44 (reveal) a surprising truth: plants are constantly “talking” and interacting in ways we are just beginning to understand.
A plant’s primary means of communication is chemical. When attacked by insects, many plants release 45 (chemical) into the air. This is not just a simple reaction; it’s a sophisticated warning system. Neighboring plants that detect these signals then start 46 (produce) their own defensive chemicals. Studies show a plant under threat can communicate 47 (effective) than we once imagined, triggering defenses in plants several meters away.
In one key experiment, scientists designed some brilliant experiments 48 (prove) this phenomenon. They placed aphids (蚜虫) on a tomato plant and watched. Soon, nearby, untouched plants also began preparing 49 (them) for attack by raising their toxin levels. This showed the message was being received. The 50 (one) clear evidence came from this simple but clever test.
51 underground network formed by fungi (真菌) acts like the internet, connecting plant roots. Through this “Wood Wide Web,” plants can share nutrients and information. A strong, old tree might, for example, help a weak seedling by sending it sugars 52 this network. 53 this connection is cut, the seedling’s chances of survival drop greatly.
This hidden conversation challenges us to look at the plant world with new respect. Plants are not just passive background objects; they are active participants in a complex, silent dialogue that sustains life on Earth.

根据“you lazy mouse.”
as当…… 根据“The frog kept the relationship…one afternoon he decided that he was tired of this one-sided friendship.”

根据“the rope…the mouse’s tail hard and he fell into the lake.”
根据“The poor little mouse could not…”
根据“But then, high up in the sky, a hawk saw the…on the water.” 故选A。
even甚至;perhaps或许;especially尤其;still仍然。根据“the frog realized that he was…connected to the mouse by the rope.”

根据“It was then that the frog realized his own…” 故选A。
根据“When setting a trap for his friend, the frog also set a trap for…”
down向下;off远离;into进入;over在……上面。根据“because you may fall…it yourself.”

One night, a little Swallow (燕子) stopped to rest at the feet of a golden statue (雕塑) called the Happy Prince. As he was about to sleep, a drop of water fell on him. He looked up and saw the Happy Prince crying.

29.What can we infer (推断) from Paragraph 2 about sound libraries?
A.They are replacing traditional book libraries completely.
B.They care more about modern music than old sounds.
C.They value the sounds from people’s daily lives.
D.They are only for scientists and researchers.
30.What is one main reason for creating sound libraries?
A.To forget traditional book libraries.
B.To teach people how to record music.
C.To save missing sounds for the future.
D.To ask people to read more books.
31.What does the word “vivid” most probably mean?
A.Clear and lively. B.Easy and fast.
C.Quiet and peaceful. D.Old and traditional.
【答案】28.D 29.C 30.C 31.A

Why?
40.Yes. 41.Because AI customer service helps companies to save money and improve efficiency. 42.AI service can’t always understand hard/complex questions or human feelings. Besides, it makes getting manual service more difficult for customers. 43.AI can help with tasks like translating languages or driving cars, but it might cause job losses for some workers because machines can do these jobs. AI can also make mistakes if not programmed well, which could be dangerous in things like driving.
40.根据第一段“However, ‘AI customer service’ usually comes before you talk to a real human.”
41.根据第二段“Here are good reasons for companies to use AI customer service. It helps companies to save money and improve efficiency.” Because it helps companies save money and improve efficiency.
42.根据第四段“AI customer service can’t always understand hard questions...it may give wrong or useless answers. Also, AI has no real feelings...not real care.” AI service can’t always understand hard/complex questions or human feelings. Besides, it makes getting manual service more difficult for customers.
AI can help with tasks like translating languages or driving cars, but it might cause job losses for some workers because machines can do these jobs. AI can also make mistakes if not programmed well, which could be dangerous in things like driving.
44.has revealed 45.chemicals 46.producing 47.more effectively 48.to prove 49.themselves 50.first 51.An 52.through 53.If/When
故填has revealed。
根据“many plants release...”
故填more effectively。
根据“ scientists designed some brilliant experiments...this phenomenon.” 故填to prove。
根据“untouched plants also began preparing...for attack by raising their toxin levels”可知,此处是“prepare oneself for sth”,表示“为自己准备某事”,them的反身代词是themselves。故填themselves。
根据“The...clear evidence came from this simple but clever test.” 故填first。
根据“underground network formed by fungi (真菌) acts like the internet,”可知,此处表泛指,且underground以元音音素开头,句首首字母要大写,因此用不定冠词An。故填An。
根据“by sending it sugars...this network”可知,此处指通过这个网络输送糖分,应填through。故填through。
根据“...this connection is cut, the seedling’s chances of survival drop greatly.” 故填If/When。
