◇教学过程◇
Step 1 Leading in
Greet the class and introduce the play:“Sometimes,parents’ expectations and our actions can lead to misunderstandings.Today,we’ll read a play about a son and his mum.”
Step 2 Work on Activities 1 and 2
1.Ask the pre⁃reading question:“What do your parents expect from you?” Have students tick the list and briefly share.
2.Have students look at the title “You just don’t get me!” and the picture of the play and predict what the play might be about based on the title.
3.Let students read the play quickly to check their prediction and find out what the mother expects from her son.
Step 3 Work on Activity 3
1.Have students read the play carefully again.Underline any unfamiliar words and phrases.
2.After reading,organise students to discuss in groups:“Why was Mum angry at first?” “What really happened that night?” “How did Mum’s feeling change at the end?”
3.Ask students to choose another suitable title for the play and explain their choice.
4.Use vocabulary cards or PPT to introduce and explain key words and phrases,and have students take notes.
Step 4 Work on Activity 4
1.Have students complete the notes about the play’s setting,characters and plot with the correct words and expressions from the play.
2.Check the answers and ask some students to retell the story briefly based on the notes.
Step 5 Work on Think and share
1.Ask students to work in groups of four to discuss the questions:“What kind of person do you think the son is?” “What advice can you give the son and his mother?”
2.Guide students to think from both the son’s and the mother’s perspectives for the advice part.
3.Invite some students to share their group’s ideas with the class.Optionally,role⁃play the conversation if the son had explained earlier or if the mother had listened first.
◇教学反思◇
本节课通过阅读剧本,学生们对家庭沟通中的误解与和解有了生动的理解,能够梳理情节和人物情感变化。词汇学习效果良好,剧本形式也增加了趣味性。小组讨论环节,学生能对人物性格进行分析并提出建议,但部分建议仍停留在表面(如“要多沟通”),未能提出更具体的沟通策略。后续可引导学生思考“如何有效沟通”。一般过去时被动语态(如was attached)的初步感知为下节课做了铺垫。
