二、阅读理解
At an early age, we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits. Don’t worry if we haven’t learned well how to save or spend money. The following life lessons about money can help us form good spending habits.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. As kids, we don’t often think about where money comes from. We need to know that our parents work hard to make money, and that it may be used up one day. Going to their workplaces to watch how they work is a great way to understand money is not that easy to make.
14
We shouldn’t spend all our money in one go. It’s important for us to have a budget (预算). In other words, we need to think about how much money we have and what we really want to spend it on. Realizing that our pocket money can’t cover everything we want, we should make smart spending choices.
We should set a clear goal and watch our money grow. If we wish to own a new bicycle but can’t afford it, we can save our pocket money. How? Write down how much money we have in a notebook and watch it grow. After we have enough, we can buy that wonderful bicycle we’ve dreamed about! Reaching our goal will greatly satiate us.
We can talk with our parents about how money is used and where money goes. Do you know what a bank account (账户) is? If not, communicate with our parents. We can also go to the supermarket with our parents to experience how money is spent in the real world.
15
Without doubt, we should treat money in a right way. Actually, learning about money isn’t a hard job. From these lessons, we can get a sense of money management and right money values step by step!

Xiao Ma opens Alipay every morning after he wakes up. “Let me see how much money I made yesterday,” he says to himself. This is his daily routine.
Xiao Ma is part of a 100-person chat group of “post-00s.” unlike most of their peers, they don’t often talk about food or fun. Their main topic is savings bonds (债券) .
“Yay, I collected three ‘eggs’ yesterday.”— The “egg” is their word for a 0.01% return.
“You can afford an extra pair of chicken wings today.”
“Oh, no, my bonds went down a bit yesterday.” Along with the sender’s message is a funny picture that says, “I’m still comfortable.” He knows ▲ .

Today, “post-00s” are not satisfied with the returns on savings accounts (储蓄账户) because money rates keep falling. But other products like shares (股票) are too risky. “At first, I put my money into a share,” says Xiao Li, a money student. “I ended up losing 20% of it.” In the end, they turned to savings bonds. These are much safer than shares but more rewarding than savings accounts.
Some “post-00s” are playing the money game really well. Xiao Qian, for example, has 80% of his money in savings bonds and only 5% in the share market. “If I win, it’s great,” he says. “If I lose, it’s no problem because most of my money is safe.”
“Post-00s” like them are all over China. Their social media posts about savings bonds number in the millions. Clearly, they have their own way of managing money and may be doing better than older generations (一代人) at the same age.

What do you do with your pocket money? Buy game machinesor sports shoes? Hang out with your friends? To save it or to spend it, that is a question.
Actually, it’s meaningful to save your pocket money because you never know what is going on tomorrow. For example, if you lose your bike, you need to buy a new one. However, without enough pocket money to spend on a new bike, you have to walk. Therefore, how can you manage your pocket money wisely?
Create a budget. List your incomes (收入) and costs, and think about how to spend the money. Then make a plan to buy some necessary things.
23
Open a bank account. Parents can put pocket money directly into your bank account. A bank can be magic! You put your money in it and your money will grow in a month. Why? It’s because the bank pays you interest. Big banks usually have an interest rate (利率) of 1.5 percent for a year.
Try second-hand products. Does being environment-friendly while saving money sound like a good choice to you? Then try second-hand products. They are cheaper than the new ones, which can help you save money. There is a highly recommended website for second-hand products.

It’s easy to see the fun in buying a huge ice cream or going shopping with friends, but saving money can be even more exciting. That’s because saving creates chances and opens the door to all kinds of adventures.
The key to successful saving is setting a goal. Get a pen and paper, and write down how much it costs, then work out how much you can afford to save each week and how long it will take you to reach your goal. It’s important to be realistic (现实的) because you’ll soon get bored if you plan to save every single penny. Some weeks you might decide to save a little more than planned so that you can reach your goals even faster.
三、阅读表达
27
To avoid accidentally spending your savings, it’s a good idea to keep them separate from the rest of your money. You could do this by using a money box or a savings account.
When you save your money in a savings account, you have the chance to earn interest. This is money that a bank pays you for leaving the money there. Some parents set up a savings account because they want to put some money away for their kids’ future.
Once you know about saving, you can set some more bigger goals. Perhaps you want to start saving for university, or you’d like to travel the world when you finish school.
If you’re new to saving, start off by thinking of some fun goals, like taking a vacation or going to a concert. Every penny you save brings you one step closer to reaching your goal—and what could be more exciting than that?
