on the opposite side, opposite to, in front of, in the center of, in the distance, in the middle of, at the back of, on/to the left/right, close to, next to, nearby, beyond等 表示原因 because, for, since, as a result/consequence of, due to, on account of, owing to等 表示结果 therefore, as a result, consequently, thereby, thus, so, otherwise, needless to say (不用说)等 表示强调 certainly, indeed, above all, surely等 表示递进或补充 in addition, furthermore, also, meanwhile, what's more, besides, to make matters worse (更糟糕的是), worse still, most importantly, last but not least等 用于举例 for example, for instance, such as等 表示让步或转折 but, however, although, though, yet, even if, even though等 表示比较 like, in the same way, similarly, equally important (同样重要)等 表示对比 unlike, in contrast, whereas, on the other hand, instead of, while等 表示观点 personally, I think, in my opinion, I'm afraid, as I see it, as far as I'm concerned等 技巧四 用修辞——修辞凸显效果 修辞不仅可以使语言更鲜活、具体,还能大大增强语言的表现力和感染力,引起读者的思考和共鸣。 (一)明喻(Simile)    明喻是一种将具有某种共同特征但本质上不同的两种事物连接起来的修辞手法,比喻词能明显看出,常用like, as, as ... as, as if/though等,能够使情感、心理、景色的描述更加生动形象。 1.The country, covered with cherry blossom, looks__as__if/though__it__were__covered__ with__a__layer__of__pink__snow. 这片开满樱花的乡村,看起来像覆盖了一层粉色的雪。 2.The smile on her face shone like__a__diamond. 她脸上的笑容像钻石一样闪闪发光。 3.The scenery along the Lijang River in Guilin is just like__a__beautiful__landscape__painting. 桂林漓江沿岸的风景就像一幅美丽的山水画。 4.He walks as__slowly__as__a__sloth. 他走路像树懒一样慢。 5.The old man's hair is white__as__snow. 这位老人的头发像雪一样白。 (二)暗喻(Metaphor)   本体、喻体都出现,但不用显而易见的比喻词如like, as等,从而更生动、更深刻地说明事理,增强语言的表现力。 1.Life__is__a__ship on the ocean meeting both sunny days and stormy days. 生活是一艘在海上航行的船,既会遇到晴天,也会遇到暴风雨。 2.Her__hair__was__a__flowing__golden__river streaming down her shoulders. 她的头发是一条流淌在肩头的金色河流。 3.I'm drowning in__a__sea__of__grief. 我沉浸在悲伤的海洋中。 4.Humor is the__shock__absorber of life; it helps us take action. 幽默是生活的减震器,它能促使我们付诸行动。 5.Love is a__lamp. The darker the background is, the brighter it looks. 爱是一盏灯。背景越暗,它看上去就越亮。 (三)拟人(Personification)   把无生命的事物当作有生命的事物来描写,赋予无生命之物以感情和动作;或是把动物人格化,可使读者更容易理解写作意图,起到情感共振的作用。 1.The thunder growled__angrily in the distance. 雷声在远处愤怒地咆哮着。 2.The city gradually began to__breathe again. 城市又渐渐开始恢复生机。 3.On seeing this, the butterfly bowed__its__head__in__sorrow. 看到此景,这只蝴蝶悲伤地垂下头。 4.The cold wind stood up and gave__a__shout. 寒风凛冽,发出怒吼。 5.The forest held__its__breath,__and the trees seemed to listen attentively. 森林屏住了呼吸,树木似乎在聚精会神地听着。 (四)夸张(Exaggeration)   为了达到某种表达效果的需要,对事物的形象、特征、作用、程度等方面刻意夸大或缩小的修辞方式,以达到强调语气,烘托气氛,引起读者联想的作用。 1.She was really dressed to__the__teeth at the party. 她在舞会上穿得极其华丽。 2.At one point, we were so high that we found ourselves passing__through__clouds. 有一次,我们所处的位置非常高,简直就是在云层中穿梭。 3.John almost felt__his__blood__frozen when he saw what was happening around him. 当约翰看到周围发生的一切时,他觉得自己的血液都快凝固了。 4.He worked__his__fingers__to__the__bone. 他干活干得手指都磨出骨头了。 5.My heart almost stopped__beating when I heard my daughter's voice on the phone. 从电话里听到我女儿的声音时,我的心几乎都停止跳动了。 (五)排比(Parallelism)   由三个或三个以上的并列短语或句子构成,其并列的结构相同或类似,意思相关,语气连贯,可使行文流畅,富有韵律之美。 1.Have__you__ever__wanted__to be part of a band as a famous singer or musician? Have__you__ever__dreamed__of playing in front of thousands of people at a concert? Have__you__ever__longed__for winning a lot of music awards? 你是否曾想过成为一个乐队里有名的歌手或音乐家?你是否曾梦想过在音乐会上,于成千上万的观众面前表演?你是否曾渴望赢得许多音乐奖项? 2.A__number__of__streets were flooded. A__number__of__schools were closed.
