Everyone has that special person in their lives who act s like a role model to them. For many of us, including me, that person is our own mother. But in my case, there is another person who is my perfect mentor (导师) and friend. It’s Nana, my mum’s father.
My Nana, since I was a kid, brought me up in the most unforgettable way possible, babying me by buying toys and presenting me with sweets and candies constantly and spending time with me, which created an everlasting bond between us.
Fast-forward a couple of years, when I began to outgrow these toys or candies, Nana didn’t just stop there. He began taking me almost every weekend to the local club where he had a membership. It meant the world to me as I could do absolutely whatever I pleased there. Other than that, Nana would take me to many parks, especially when there was a flower show on or something of that sort. He was very enthusiastic about nature and spent hours around it, enjoying what it had to offer.
Anyhow, his immense love didn’t end there...
My Nana had grown older. Now he finds it hard to drive and walk too much, so he prefers to stay at home. What I do now is to try to give him company and talk to him mainly about his travels at sea, as he was a sailor, and the various countries he visited and how he spent his early years and about my school, etc.
I’ll never be able to repay my Nana for all the kindness and comfort he gave to me. Thank you, Nana, from the bottom of my heart for all you’ve done for me.

Different cultures have various festivals, but the joy and eagerness are the same. For us adults, celebrations are a way of taking a break from heavy work, re-live past memories, and keeping traditions alive, but what about children?
Well, for our kids, this is the perfect time to learn and enrich their líves with knowledge. At festivals, I remember, I introduced the value and importance of personal connections and cultural treasure to my kids while they were having fun. Child experts strongly suggest that parents tell their kids various rituals (仪式) of the festivals and have them join in celebratory activities.
I think every festival has a rich backstory, and every story has plenty of lessons and values to teach. Besides, historical and geographical background connected with festivals give reasons why we celebrate festivals with specific rituals.
Kids need to have a deep-rooted understanding of the identity (身份) of their culture and traditions. Because this not only helps in developing a positive sense of identity but also pushes kids to connect with their cultures through rituals, native decorations, food, etc., to keep continuity over generations. Thus, parents should make kids a central part of all festivals.
It is no secret that gifts bring joy and excitement to children. Every time I give gifts to my kids, I find the gifts excite their senses and make them feel valued. I must make my kids believe that their families care about their interests and desires. Thus, gifting is a meaningful way to express feelings to kids. What’s more, the act of giving and receiving gifts helps develop feelings of care and kindness.
8. What do festivals mean for children?
A. A perfect time to have a rest. B. A chance to increase knowledge.
C. A memory of their old days. D. An effort to protect traditions.
9. Why should kids be “a central part of all festivals”?
A. They enjoy festival backstories. B. They love history and geography.

A. Kids. B. Teachers. C. Headmasters. D. Parents.
11. What is a suitable title of the passage?
A. Importance of Festivals in Kids’ Life

Thus, parents should make kids a central part of all festivals.

Regular physical exercise is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It’s not just about keeping a slim figure or building strong muscles — it has far-reaching benefits for both your body and mind.
For your physical health, exercise helps strengthen your heart and lungs. When you do activities like running, swimming or cycling, your heart works harder to pump blood around your body. Over time, this makes your heart muscle stronger and more efficient, which lowers your risk of heart disease. Exercise also helps with weight management. By burning calories, it prevents excess fat from building up in your body. Additionally, it can strengthen your bones and joints. Weight-bearing exercises such as walking or playing basketball can increase bone density, reducing the chance of osteoporosis later in life.
Exercise is equally good for your mental health. When you exercise, your brain releases chemicals called endorphins. These chemicals are known as “feel-good” hormones because they can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, and even help fight depression. Regular exercise can also improve your sleep quality. A good workout during the day, can make you feel tired at night, helping you fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply. Moreover, staying active can boost your self-confidence. Achieving small exercise goals, like running a 5-kilometer race or lifting a heavier weight, can make you feel proud of yourself and improve your overall mood.
However, it’s important to exercise in a smart way. Don’t push yourself too hard at the beginning. Start with short, easy workouts and gradually increase the time and intensity. It’s also essential to warm up before exercising and cool down afterwards to avoid injuries. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially during long workouts.
In short, regular exercise is a powerful tool for a healthy body and a happy mind. So why not pick an activity you enjoy and start moving today?

A. Swimming. B. Cycling.

14 Why are endorphins called “feel-good” hormones?
A. They can help people lose weight quickly.
B. They can strengthen the heart and lungs.
C. They can reduce stress and anxiety and fight depression.
D. They can improve bone density.
15. What should we do to exercise in a smart way?
①Start with short and easy workouts.
②Warm up before exercising and cool down afterwards.
③Drink enough water during workouts.
④Push ourselves as hard as possible from the very beginning.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④

Anyhow his immense love didn’t end there...

C. By companying and chatting with him. D. By sending him gifts for what he did for her.

C. They must know who they are. D. They can bring much happiness.
10. Who are the intended readers of the text?
A. Kids. B. Teachers. C. Headmasters. D. Parents.
11. What is a suitable title of the passage?
A. Importance of Festivals in Kids’ Life

C. Benefits of Festival Rituals to Kids
D. Principles of Kids' Love for Festivals

14. Why are endorphins called “feel-good” hormones?
A. They can help people lose weight quickly.
B They can strengthen the heart and lungs.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④
