Few words are spoken more often every day on the streets of Britain than “I’m sorry”. This phrase has become such a common response (反应) that it has taken on a lot of meanings.
Saying “Sorry” means to apologize (道歉) This is simple and easy to understand. We learn it both as a native speaker and as a student of foreign languages.
But in Britain, it takes on another meaning. It is a cultural expression. Imagine this: a man walks down the street, looking down at his phone. A woman is walking in the opposite direction, towards the man. She sees him, but she can’t get out of the way in time. The man bumps (碰撞) into the woman. Who should say sorry? Naturally, the man should say sorry, because it was he who wasn’t looking where he was going. Yet in Britain, it is common for both to apologize.
It is known that British people, like most people, do not enjoy conflict (冲突). So to quickly calm the situation, British people will apologize to each other.
Other times it may sound funny to hear “sorry”. Some of my friends say it at restaurants, as they ask the waiter, “Sorry, but can I order another drink?” It is not to apologize, but just to express that we need the waiter. In Britain, “sorry” doesn’t always mean exactly what you think.
31. According to the text, “saying sorry” is a cultural expression in ________.
A. the USA B. the UK C. the PRC D. the UN
32. What does the underlined word "it" refer to?

33. Which picture can describe the situation in Paragraph 3?

Technology is helping people to give first aid. It helps save lives faster. Technology not only makes our lives easier, it can also save lives. People who have sudden health emergencies (紧急情况) like heart disease or accidents may only have a few minutes to live unless they get help. We can use technology to offer help faster. Let’s look at some technological inventions that are helping save lives.

Probably the biggest change to hit the working world in recent years has been generative AI (生成型人工智能). A report showed that 85% of workers could see at least 10% of their tasks affected by AI in some way. And how can students make sure their skills stay valuable in a world that feels like it’s being taken over by computers? Here are the experts’ suggestions.
Work on your people skills. AI can summarize (总结) an article and program a computer, but it can’t win over a customer or stop a fight. So, try to get experience in jobs where you work with people — including difficult people! You could do this by working as a waiter or volunteering at a nursing home.
Learn lots of things, or become an expert. If you have just one skill, you could be in trouble if AI gets really good at it. So students should consider taking extra (额外的) courses besides their main study courses. If you do focus on (关注) one area, just ensure you know more about it than AI does!
Show you can do big, creative things AI can’t do. While AI can do long, boring tasks like comparing lots of information, it doesn’t push companies to develop new ideas or improve. And even if AI does the boring work, humans will still be needed to organize the projects in which AI is used.
Develop adaptability. We can’t know for certain what the world of work will look like in the future — so the best skill to develop may be adaptability. You can make yourself better at this by looking for new experiences, like studying abroad or even taking courses, which force you to change to get used to new situations!
The future of work with AI is challenging. But students can change and succeed. With AI’s help, you can learn more efficiently and solve problems more easily Face the difficulties and work hard, and you’ll make the journey into the AI-driven future be a step towards a better life.
41. What can AI do according to the text?
① summarize an article ② program a computer
③ win over a customer ④ stop a fight
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④
42. Why should students consider taking extra courses?
A. To develop people skills. B. To drop their main courses.

43. Which of the following shows “adaptability” in Paragraph 5?
A. Tom invented a human-like robot. B. Sam organized a successful party.
C. Tina made few friends in the club. D. Mary fit in well at her new school.

根据“A study in the UK found that women did cry more than men...Or are they just uncomfortable about showing their true feelings?”
根据“One place where emotions (情绪) run high is in the workplace. Someone might be stressed.”可知,前文提到“情绪高发的场所是职场,有人可能会压力大”,B项“他们的工作可能太多了。”是对“职场压力大”的具体解释,符合语境。故选B。

People in ancient China worked long hours each day. To relax themselves, they invented many games. Here are some of them.
Chuiwan
Chuiwan was one of the ball games in ancient China, which was very popular in the Song Dynasty. “Chui” means “hit” and “wan” means “ball”. This sport was similar to golf. On a large field, the players were divided into two groups. Usually there were 2 to 10 people in each group. Everyone had three chances to hit the ball into holes with a stick.
Cuju

football. The ball was made of leather on the outside and filled with rice bran (米糠) inside. As a fun and relaxing game, cuju was used in the army to train soldiers. Its rules were similar to football’s. Each team usually had 12 or 16 players.
Archery

Few words are spoken more often every day on the streets of Britain than “I’m sorry”. This phrase has become such a common response (反应) that it has taken on a lot of meanings.
Saying “Sorry” means to apologize (道歉). This is simple and easy to understand.
A. Saying “Sorry”. B. A foreign language. C. A native speaker. D. The man’s phone.
33. Which picture can describe the situation in Paragraph 3?
A. B. C. D.
34. The restaurant example shows that “sorry” can be used to ________.
A. make an apology B. calm a situation down
C. explain what you're thinking about D. ask a waiter to bring something
35. The text mainly talks about ________.
A. different meanings of “sorry” B. traditional British manners
C. how to best catch others' attention D. a way out of a difficult situation
C
Technology is helping people to give first aid. It helps save lives faster. Technology not only makes our lives easier, it can also save lives. People who have sudden health emergencies (紧急情况) like heart disease or accidents may only have a few minutes to live unless they get help. We can use technology to offer help faster. Let’s look at some technological inventions that are helping save lives.
Smart app
Some people in the US made an app called Pulse Point. It invites common people trained in CPR (心肺复苏术) to use it. The app knows the users’ locations. If someone needs first aid nearby, a user will get a message asking them to help.
Magic gel (凝胶)
The gel can stop someone bleeding (流血) in just 10 seconds. It is made from plants. It can stick to a wound and help seal (密封) it. It was invented more than 10 years ago but was only allowed to be used on animals. Now in the US, it has been allowed to be used on humans, too. And the person from the US was only 17 years old when he invented it!
Flying aid
If people get injured or need help in hard-to-reach areas, drones (无人机) can be of great use. Because they can fly, drones can often offer help faster than people. And they can also make helping people safer for rescuers (营救者) working in dangerous conditions. The drones can have a camera that can watch your health. They can also carry useful things, like blankets or a life jacket to save someone from drowning (溺水).

You can make yourself better at this by looking for new experiences like studying abroad or even taking courses, which force you to change to get used to new situations!
The future of work with AI is challenging. But students can change and succeed. With AI’s help, you can learn more efficiently and solve problems more easily Face the difficulties and work hard, and you’ll make the journey into the AI-driven future be a step towards a better life.
