故选A。 由文章第四段中“Grades for class are weighted in the following way: Essays 25%, Tests 25%, Projects 25%, Homework and Class Assignments 25%. 由文章最后一段中“Late projects are reduced 20% for each late day. B。 B Years ago when I was starting to explore the world in earnest — making my first trips to Africa and Asia and the Arctic — I believed that looking at the world through a camera held back my ability to see what was really in front of me and to notice what mattered. I thought that trying to capture (捕获) good pictures took me out of the moment and made me conscious of constructing an image rather than absorbing what I was experiencing. I’ve since changed my mind about that. Today I take plenty of photos, not just on my travels but in the everyday life — when I notice an interesting mushroom while walking the dog, or watch the cloud formations before a storm. I understand now that taking pictures can be a way to stop and make better sense of the world around us. That’s one important outcome of the work that our phenomenal photographers do for National Geographic. And it’s why I’m so pleased that we have devoted this month’s magazine to immersing you in that work. Of course, these professionals have a much different relationship with photography than I do. Their work is creatively, intellectually, and logistically challenging in ways that most of us hobbyist photographers can hardly imagine. For them, it is an art and a science that they’ve perfected — a way to stop us in our tracks and make us pay attention to a story that needs to be told. At their best, photographers reveal what isn’t readily seen. In addition to impressive photos, we’re letting you hear directly from a handful of our photographers, who share stories that take you deeper into some of their most interesting projects. You’ll learn the extreme lengths to which our contributors have gone to capture some of these shots, and get a closer look at the equipment that makes it all possible. I hope you enjoy the issue. 4. What was the author’s initial belief about taking photographs? A. It kept him from fully enjoying the present. B. It greatly enhanced his travel experiences. C. It helped record unforgettable memories. D. It indicated his reliance on the camera. 5. What is a key ability of professional photographers according to the author? A. Simplifying complex processes. B. Imagining touching stories. C. Documenting events accurately. D. Presenting unnoticed scenes. 6. What does the magazine offer besides photos? A. A contribution for photographers. B. A behind-the-scenes look. C. Photographer training projects. D. Publishers’ firsthand stories. 7. In which section of a magazine may this text appear? A. Earth’s Artworks. B. Around the World. C. Reader’s Letter. D. From the Editor. A 5. D 6. B 7. 由文章第一段“Years ago when I was starting to explore the world in earnest — making my first trips to Africa and Asia and the Arctic — I believed that looking at the world through a camera held back my ability to see what was really in front of me and to notice what mattered. I thought that trying to capture (捕获) good pictures took me out of the moment and made me conscious of constructing an image rather than absorbing what I was experiencing. 故选A。 由文章第四段中“At their best, photographers reveal what isn’t readily seen. 由文章第五段中“In addition to impressive photos, we’re letting you hear directly from a handful of our photographers, who share stories that take you deeper into some of their most interesting projects. 由文章最后一段“I hope you enjoy the issue. D。 C In a clinical trial with 80 adults, a team of researchers found that sleep extension reduced energy intake and resulted in a negative energy balance in real-life settings among adults with overweight who habitually reduced their sleep duration The findings appear in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. Obesity is a major public health concern. Much evidence suggests that sleeping less than 7 hours per night on a regular basis is associated with adverse health results. Particularly, insufficient sleep duration has been increasingly recognized as an important factor for obesity. However, it remains unknown whether extending sleep duration can be an effective strategy for preventing obesity. The clinical trial involved 80 adults aged 21 to 40 years with a body mass index (BMI) between 25.0 and 29.9, and habitual sleep duration of less than 6.5 hours per night. The study was conducted from November 1, 2014 to October 30, 2020. The participants were able to increase their sleep duration by an average of 1.2 hours per night after a personalized sleep counseling (咨询) session. Overall, participants who increased their sleep duration were able to reduce their calorie intake by an average of 270 kcal per day — which would translate to roughly 12 kg of weight loss over three years if the effects were maintained over a long term. Ultimately, the researchers hope to examine the underlying (潜在的) mechanisms that may explain these results, and believe their work should encourage new, larger studies on weight control to determine if extending sleep can support weight-loss programs and help prevent or reverse obesity. “In our earlier work, we understood that sleep is important for appetite regulation,” Dr. Tasali said. “Now we’ve shown that in real life, without making any other lifestyle changes, you can extend your sleep and eat fewer calories. This could really help people trying to lose weight.” 8. What’s the new finding of the research? A. Sleep extension can lead to weight problems. B. Extending sleep duration helps reduce caloric intake. C. Controlling energy intake is the key to losing weight. D. Overweight adults often decrease their sleep duration. 9. What’s the probable meaning of the underlined word “adverse” in paragraph 2? A. Harmful. B. Unique. C. Lasting. D. Apparent. 10. According to the text, the subject of the study ________. A. usually slept 6.5 hours per night B. were 80 adults of the similar age group C. got advice on sleep tailored to themselves D. were particularly chosen from a certain place 11. What do researchers think of the study? A. Its results are hard to explain clearly. B. It lays a foundation for further studies. C. It’s unreliable with many factors ignored. D. It has solved all the puzzles of researchers. B 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段“In a clinical trial with 80 adults, a team of researchers found that sleep extension reduced energy intake and resulted in a negative energy balance in real-life settings among adults with overweight who habitually reduced their sleep duration (持续时间). 根据下文“Particularly, insufficient sleep duration has been increasingly recognized as an important factor for obesity. 故选A。 根据第三段“The participants were able to increase their sleep duration by an average of 1.2 hours per night after a personalized sleep counseling (咨询) session. 根据倒数第二段“Ultimately, the researchers hope to examine the underlying (潜在的) mechanisms that may explain these results, and believe their work should encourage new, larger studies on weight control to determine if extending sleep can support weight-loss programs and help prevent or reverse obesity. B。 D When it comes to extreme weather, hailstorms (雹暴) “tend to get an unbalanced share of the attention,” says Victor Gensini, a meteorologist at Northern Illinois University. Yet hailstorms total cars, destroy roofs and devastate crops, costing the United States $46 billion in 2023 — representing 60% to 80% of the losses from hail, tornadoes, wind, and lightning-caused fires combined, according to an insurance institute. So it’s no surprise U.S. hail scientists are frustrated that their last major research campaign took place in the late 1970s, “It’s just this big gaping hole,” says Becky Adams-Selin, a hail scientist at Atmospheric and Environmental Research. A project called the In-situ Collaborative Experiment for the Collection of Hail in the Plains — ICECHIP, for short — is set up to change that. Led by Adams-Selin, ICECHIP researchers hope to gather data that could improve hailstorm prediction and help answer fundamental questions, such as how climate change will affect the frequency of hailstorms and the size of the stones. The campaign will rely on technologies new to hail research, such as high-speed videography, drone imagery, and mobile radar, for example. Researchers will also use balloons to deliver 3D-printed spherical sensors into storms to imitate the movement of hailstones. A fleet of 24 ground-based sensors will measure the energy of falling hailstones every 500th of a second, and 3D laser scanners will record collected hailstones’ intricate shapes. Back in the lab, ICECHIP researchers will analyze hailstones’ ice layers to determine the temperature and altitude at which they formed — and, in turn, the paths they took through storms. Such tools will bring hail research “into the 21st century,” says Julian Brimelow, a meteorologist and executive director of Canada’s Northern Hail Project, a research group involved in ICECHIP. But some technologies from the 1970s will remain, such as hail pads: Pieces of foam topped with aluminum foil to catch hailstones and provide outlines of their sizes and shapes. 12. What can we infer from Victor Gensini’s statement? A. Hailstorms deserve more attention. B. Hailstorms are unexpected. C. Hailstorms gettoo much attention. D. Hailstorms are common. 13. What does the underlined word “total” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Need. B. Abandon. C. Blow. D. Damage. 14. Why is ICECHIP founded? A. To record the climate change effect. B. Topredict the frequencyof hailstorms. C. Toprovide the way of gathering data. D. To address the gap in research on hailstorms. 15. What’s the purpose of the passage? A. To reportweather changes. B. To introduce ICECHIP. C. Toexplain the formation of hail. D. To show the damage caused by hailstorm. A 13. D 14. D 15. 根据第一段“When it comes to extreme weather, hailstorms (雹暴) “tend to get an unbalanced share of the attention,” says Victor Gensini, a meteorologist at Northern Illinois University. (当谈到极端天气时,北伊利诺伊大学的气象学家Victor Gensini说,雹暴“往往得到的关注份额并不均衡”)”以及第二段中“Yet hailstorms total cars, destroy roofs and devastate crops, costing the United States $46 billion in 2023 — representing 60% to 80% of the losses from hail, tornadoes, wind, and lightning-caused fires combined, according to an insurance institute. 故选A。 根据第二段中“Yet hailstorms total cars, destroy roofs and devastate crops, costing the United States $46 billion in 2023 — representing 60% to 80% of the losses from hail, tornadoes, wind, and lightning-caused fires combined, according to an insurance institute. A. 根据第二段“So it’s no surprise U.S. hail scientists are frustrated that their last major research campaign took place in the late 1970s, “It’s just this big gaping hole,” says Becky Adams-Selin, a hail scientist at Atmospheric and Environmental Research.(因此,美国冰雹科学家对他们的上一次主要研究活动发生在20世纪70年代末感到沮丧也就不足为奇了,‘这只是一个巨大的缺口,’大气与环境研究机构的冰雹科学家Becky Adams-Selin说)”第三段“A project called the In-situ Collaborative Experiment for the Collection of Hail in the Plains — ICECHIP, for short — is set up to change that. Led by Adams-Selin, ICECHIP researchers hope to gather data that could improve hailstorm prediction and help answer fundamental questions, such as how climate change will affect the frequency of hailstorms and the size of the stones. 通读全文,结合第二段“Yet hailstorms total cars, destroy roofs and devastate crops, costing the United States $46 billion in 2023 — representing 60% to 80% of the losses from hail, tornadoes, wind, and lightning-caused fires combined, according to an insurance institute. So it’s no surprise U.S. hail scientists are frustrated that their last major research campaign took place in the late 1970s, “It’s just this big gaping hole,” says Becky Adams-Selin, a hail scientist at Atmospheric and Environmental Research. 因此,美国冰雹科学家对他们的上一次主要研究活动发生在20世纪70年代末感到沮丧也就不足为奇了,‘这只是一个巨大的缺口,’大气与环境研究机构的冰雹科学家Becky Adams-Selin说)”以及第三段中“A project called the In-situ Collaborative Experiment for the Collection of Hail in the Plains — ICECHIP, for short — is set up to change that. Your comfort zone is that familiar, predictable space where tasks feel effortless — a protective bubble (泡沫) shielding you from stress and uncertainty. ____16____ There are some ways to break out of your comfort zone without going too far. Do everyday things differently. Take a different route to work. ____17____ Whether the change you make is big or small, make a change in the way you do things on a day-to-day basis. Look for the perspective that comes from any change, even if it’s negative. Don’t be put off if things don’t work out the way you planned. Take your time making decisions. Sometimes slowing down is all it takes to make you uncomfortable — especially if speed and quick thinking are prized in your work or personal life. ____18____ And take your time to interpret what you see. Sometimes just defending your right to make an educated decision can push you out of your comfort zone. ____19____ It takes a lot of courage to break out of your comfort zone. You get the same benefits whether you go in with both feet or you do if you start slow, so don’t be afraid to start slow. Identify your fears, and then face them step by step. There are lots of ways to stretch your personal boundaries. You can learn a new language or skill, connect with people that inspire you, or volunteer in an organization that does great work. You can also travel whether you go around the block or across the globe. ____20____ A. Do it in small steps. B. Try a new operating system. C. Increase the difficulty continuously. D. Slow down, and observe what’s going on. E. Leaving it means increased risk and anxiety. F. But true growth requires stepping beyond its edges. G. It’s perhaps the best way to broaden your perspectives. F 17. B 18. D 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Your comfort zone is that familiar, predictable space where tasks feel effortless — a protective bubble (泡沫) shielding you from stress and uncertainty. 介绍舒适区的含义,后文“There are some ways to break out of your comfort zone without going too far. 【17题详解】 前文“Do everyday things differently. Take a different route to work. 建议改变日常活动的方式,并给出上班路线的具体例子,后文“Whether the change you make is big or small, make a change in the way you do things on a day-to-day basis. 【18题详解】 前文“Sometimes slowing down is all it takes to make you uncomfortable — especially if speed and quick thinking are prized in your work or personal life. 指出不愿慢下来的原因,后文“And take your time to interpret what you see. 指出下一步是理解所见,此处应补充慢下来的第一步,因此D项“Slow down, and observe what’s going on. 【19题详解】 后文“It takes a lot of courage to break out of your comfort zone. You get the same benefits whether you go in with both feet or you do if you start slow, so don’t be afraid to start slow. Identify your fears, and then face them step by step. 故选A。 【20题详解】 前文“You can learn a new language or skill, connect with people that inspire you, or volunteer in an organization that does great work. You can also travel whether you go around the block or across the globe. 列举拓宽边界的各种方法,此处应总结这些行动的意义,因此G项“It’s perhaps the best way to broaden your perspectives. In the busy modern life, it’s easy to get caught up in our own little worlds, racing from one task to another. She had vertigo (眩晕症). Her husband, who had already left for his construction job, couldn’t attend to them at home. Garcia often found it hard to take care of her two sons, Thomason, aged 7, and Andrew, 5. Fortunately, Garcia lived in a friendly community. Neighbors often came to check on them. Mrs. Mathew, Garcia’s next-door neighbour dropped most. One morning, when Karen Garcia awoke suddenly at 4 a. m., the room was spinning. She felt everything was turning. She had never experienced it before. Both of the kids were asleep. She took her vertigo medication, and it didn't work. She couldn’t keep it down, vomiting (呕吐) for hours. At exactly 7:00 a,m, the children woke up. Usually, by this time, their mother would already be up, preparing breakfast in the kitchen. But today, the house felt frightening still. The boys began their search, calling out softly at first, then louder when there was no response. They checked the kitchen, the living room, their parents' bedroom, and even the garden. Each empty room increased their fear and anxiety. They finally approached the bathroom. Pushing the door open, both boys froze in horror. Their mother lay on the floor, pale and unconscious. The kids were rather distraught (忧心如焚的), frantically trying to help her. Thomason called 911, and gave the dispatcher (调度员) the details in a trembling voice. Before long, a crew of emergency responders arrived at the scene. They quickly made out that Garcia was in medical distress and should be sent to hospital immediately. The atmosphere of the hospital was too much for the kids so they had better stay. Then came the problem: who would accompany them? At that time, Mrs. Mathew appeared, curious at all the mess. She offered to help at once. Watching the ambulance roaring away, they retraced indoors. Seeing the kids’ unsettled faces, Mrs. Mathew decided to do something. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later that day word came from the hospital that Garcia was out of danger. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: Seeing the kids’ unsettled faces, Mrs. Mathew decided to do something. She gently explained the situation, reassuring them that their mother would be taken care of. Then, Mrs. Mathew was to prepare breakfast for the two kids. She also got them involved to take out the toaster, the sugar and the flour and asked them to help to make toast, distracting them from the worries. In a matter of minutes, the kids’ moods shifted. Once the kids finished eating breakfast, Mrs. Mathew kept them occupied with stories and games. Later that day, word came from the hospital that Garcia was out of danger. The kids, together with Mrs. Mathew, went to the hospital to visit Garcia. In the ward, they were relieved to find Garcia recovering from vertigo. The kids hugged their mom tightly, tears streaming down their faces. Then, they were so excited to tell Garcia about the time spent with Mrs. Mathew at home. Mrs. Mathew stood nearby, smiling warmly. Garcia was grateful for her neighbor’s timely assistance. The kindness and support from the community helped the family through a difficult time, reminding them that they were not alone in their struggle. 词汇激活 行为类 照顾:take care of/attend to 帮助:help/assist 拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 兴奋的:excited/thrilled 感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】[高分句型1] She gently explained the situation, reassuring them that their mother would be taken care of.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] The kids hugged their mom tightly, tears streaming down their faces.(运用了独立主格结构) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 嘉峪关市酒钢三中2025—2026学年第一学期期末考试高二英语试卷 命题人:王瑜 李福玉 审题人:刘玉梅 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. B Years ago when I was starting to explore the world in earnest — making my first trips to Africa and Asia and the Arctic — I believed that looking at the world through a camera held back my ability to see what was really in front of me and to notice what mattered I thought that trying to capture (捕获) good pictures took me out of the moment and made me conscious of constructing an image rather than absorbing what I was experiencing. 4. B. Imagining touching stories. C. Documenting events accurately. D. Presenting unnoticed scenes. 6. What does the magazine offer besides photos? A. A contribution for photographers. B. A behind-the-scenes look. C. Photographer training projects. D. Publishers’ firsthand stories. 7. In which section of a magazine may this text appear? A. Earth’s Artworks. B. Around the World. C. Reader’s Letter. D. From the Editor. C In a clinical trial with 80 adults, a team of researchers found that sleep extension reduced energy intake and resulted in a negative energy balance in real-life settings among adults with overweight who habitually reduced their sleep duration The findings appear in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The clinical trial involved 80 adults aged 21 to 40 years with a body mass index (BMI) between 25.0 and 29.9 and habitual sleep duration of less than 6.5 hours per night. D When it comes to extreme weather, hailstorms (雹暴) “tend to get an unbalanced share of the attention,” says Victor Gensini, a meteorologist at Northern Illinois University. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later that day, word came from the hospital that Garcia was out of danger. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
