Maybe we did not feel it at that time. But in September, there was a shaking (摇晃) under our feet for more than a week. Now, scientists find that it is because of global (全球) warming.
The shaking came from Earth’s crust, it is the shell of earth, just like the skin of an apple. It lasted for nine days and went across the whole world.
The study shows that it started in eastern Greenland. Because of global warming, at the foot of a mountain, the ice got thin. It couldn’t carry the rocks (岩石) on it, and the 1,200-meter-high mountain came into small pieces. The rocks all fell down into the sea. This made a really big tsunami (海啸). It was about 110 meters high. Over the next few days, the water moved back and ahead, hitting the cliffs (崖壁).
Luckily, nobody was hurt. But the scientists believe more things like this will take place because the world is getting warmer.
36. What does the underlined “it” refer to (指) in Paragraph 1?
A. Hot weather on Earth. B. The ground under our feet.
C. Changes in Earth’s crust. D. The shaking of the ground.
37. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

This Sunday is International Panda Day (国际熊猫日). Every year on October 27, we celebrate efforts to protect giant pandas. Let’s also take the time to learn a few things about these cute animals in the wild.
Today, there are about 2,600 giant pandas in the world. Among them, about 700 are raised by people in the house and the others live in the wild. Giant pandas mainly eat bamboo, but you may also find other plants in their diet. Sometimes, they even eat small rodents (啮齿动物), such as bamboo rats. In fact, a very long time ago, giant pandas mainly ate meat. Their diet turned about 99 percent vegan (素食) more than two million years ago. Why? There may have been much more bamboo than meat at the time, scientists guess. This change of diet helped giant pandas to survive (生存).
Wild giant pandas like to live alone. They mark their territory (领地) by leaving their smell. Sometimes, male pandas do handstands (倒立) to leave their smell on trees. It’s a way of spreading their smell higher and farther. This makes them seem bigger and stronger to other pandas.
The number of giant pandas is difficult to grow in the wild. First, it is not easy for giant pandas to have babies. Female pandas only have one chance to get baby within a few days each year. They must take the chance during this short time. What’s more, if a panda gives birth to twins, she will usually give up the weaker baby not long after. It’s because she doesn’t have enough milk or energy to care for both babies. The mother will raise the stronger baby for about two and a half years. The young giant panda will then leave her and live on its own.
40.. How many giant pandas are there in the wild?
A. About 700. B. About 2600.
C. About 1900 . D. About 1700.
41. What do giant pandas mainly eat?
A. Small rodents. B. Bamboo rats. C. Meat. D. Bamboo.
42. How do giant pandas mark their territory?
A. By leaving their smell. B. By doing some handstands.
C.By showing big bodies. D. By spreading smell farther.
43. Why is the number of giant pandas difficult to grow in the wild?
①Female pandas usually give up the weaker baby of the two.
②Female pandas only have one chance to get baby each year.
③Female pandas raise the weaker baby for about two and a half years.
④Female pandas don’t have enough milk and energy for two babies.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④
C 41. D 42. A 43. B
根据第二段“Today, there are about 2,600 giant pandas in the world. Among them, about 700 are raised by people in the house and the others live in the wild.”

It’s because she doesn’t have enough milk or energy to care for both babies.”
D
The ocean covers about 71% of our world and is very important in keeping us alive. While the rainforests may be called “the lungs of the planet”, scientists say it’s actually the ocean that provides 50-80% of the oxygen (氧气) we breathe. It also helps control Earth’s climate by moving heat from the equator (赤道) toward the poles (地极) to cool things down.
The ocean itself is very important in the fight against climate change too. It takes in 50 times more carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) than our atmosphere (大气层). But it’s not just the ocean itself—many plants and animals in the ocean hold carbon too.
Perhaps one of the most wonderful ones is the seagrass. Across the world, there are more than 70 kinds of seagrass. It grows in the underwater areas of 159 countries on six continents, covering 300,000 square kilometers. Now, that may be an area the size of Italy, but it’s hardly 0.2% of the seafloor. And this is where the seagrass comes into its own because it takes in 10% of the ocean’s carbon each year, 35 times faster than rainforests. Seagrass builds its leaves and roots using carbon and holds on to it, even after death.
However, such an excellent way to help with climate change is itself under threat (威胁) from climate change, as temperature rise, storms, pollution, the long-term development of coastlines, and over-fishing have all played their roles in its decline (减少).
According to the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP), a seagrass area the size of a football field is destroyed every 30 minutes. Around the world, it is declining at a rate of about 7% a year. Unless we do something, experts say that some seagrasses will disappear for ever by 2050.
Dealing with this problem will take an international effort. Luckily, some efforts have already started, in different places around the world.
44. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. The oxygenB. The planet.C. The rainforest.D. The ocean
45. How can the seagrass help with climate change?
A. It takes in carbon dioxide and holds carbon until it dies.
B. It takes in 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere
C. It takes in 10% of the ocean’s carbon and holds carbon fast.
D. It grows in many underwater places and covers a large area.
46. What is the purpose (目的) of the article?
A. To explain why the area of seagrass is becoming smaller every year.
B. To draw readers’ attention to the pollution in the sea and make a change.
C. To introduce different excellent ways to help with climate change.
D. To tell readers the importance of seagrass and the problem it is facing.
47. What will probably be written next?
A. What some countries have done to stop the decline of seagrass.
B. Introduce the countries where seagrass is disappearing very fast.
C. Describe the results caused by the decline of the seagrass.
D. What scientists and experts think of the decline of the seagrass.
D 45. C 46. D 47. A

根据第三段中“And this is where the seagrass comes into its own because it takes in 10% of the ocean’s carbon each year, 35 times faster than rainforests. Seagrass builds its leaves and roots using carbon and holds on to it, even after death.”
根据全文内容,特别是第三段中“Perhaps one of the most wonderful ones is the seagrass...And this is where the seagrass comes into its own because it takes in 10% of the ocean’s carbon each year, 35 times faster than rainforests.”和第四段中“However, such an excellent way to help with climate change is itself under threat (威胁) from climate change...”
根据最后一段“Dealing with this problem will take an international effort. Luckily, some efforts have already started, in different places around the world.” 故选A。

A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④
