M: Yeah. It isn’t a true Wimbledon experience without the strawberries and cream.
W: Exactly! But did you know that those tennis players have to wear all-white clothes? Even their shoes can’t be off-white or cream.
M: Ha, I know! I read it’s because back then, in Victorian England, sweat marks were a big no-no. White was the best way to hide them. So, the rule for athletes to wear white has been in place since the first tournament in 1877.
W: So what happens if they wear something with color?
M: They have to change their clothes.
W: Interesting. I remember that Andre Agassi, who was known for his colorful clothes, was against this tradition from 1988 to 1990. But he eventually won Wimbledon in 1992 in white.
M: I guess even the greats have to follow the rule.

For students who have a strong independent spirit, or are looking to fully experience a new language and culture, choose direct enrollment. From applying for a student visa to finding housing and making new friends, students who pick this choice will have to take care of most of the practical matters on their own. Sound too much? Don’t worry. This guide will help you.
● What is Direct Enrollment?
With direct enrollment, students are able to sign up as visiting students in regular classes at foreign universities. By choosing this option, students pay tuition to the foreign university directly, thus cutting out the middle-man of a program provider.
●Why is Direct Enrollment a Good Option for Students?
Direct enrollment can save you money. The middle-men of program providers can save you time and stress. They are able to do this because they charge more for added benefits like visa support and arranging housing. However, not all students can afford to pay for these extra services. This is where direct enrollment comes in. Plus, it can promote a stronger sense of independence. Direct enrollment lets you completely personalize your experience. If you don’t want to do a homestay with a stranger or live in a dorm, direct enrollment gives you the freedom to choose.
●How to Apply for Direct Enrollment?
Direct enrollment requires students to apply to their overseas university of choice just like they did for their home university in the U. S. Students will need to submit (提交) several items which include online application form, approval letter from home university and copy of passport. Many universities have minimum GPA requirements, usually a 3. 0. Some others may ask for a personal statement to support the application.
21. How does direct enrollment help students save money?
A. By reducing tuition fees. B. By offering scholarships.
C. By providing cheaper housing choices. D. By removing the cost of extra services.
22. What is a must to apply for direct enrollment?
A. A GPA of 3.0. B. A passport copy.
C. A personal statement. D. An approval letter from high school.
23. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A travel magazine. B. A job advertisement.
C. A study abroad guide. D. A university brochure.
D 22. B 23. C

根据●Why is Direct Enrollment a Good Option for Students?部分中“The middle-men of program providers can save you time and stress. They are able to do this because they charge more for added benefits like visa support and arranging housing. However, not all students can afford to pay for these extra services. This is where direct enrollment comes in.(项目提供商的中间人可以为你节省时间和精力。他们之所以能做到这一点,是因为他们为签证支持和安排住房等额外福利收取更多费用。然而,并非所有学生都能负担得起这些额外服务的费用。这就是直接入学发挥作用的地方)”可知,直接入学通过去除额外服务的费用来帮助学生省钱。故选D项。

There are always two sides to a story. Unfortunately, when it comes to the history of Thanksgiving, generations of Americans have been taught a one-sided history in homes and schools.
The mainstream cultural and historical story has been told by the white settlers (殖民者) who landed near Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts in 1620. In this version (版本)of the Thanksgiving story, the holiday celebrates the peaceful, friendly meeting of English settlers and the Wampanoag tribe (部落) for three days of feasting and thanksgiving in 1621.
This story paints a picture of courageous settlers braving the dangers of the New World and with the help of some friendly natives, finding a way to make a new life for themselves. Very few teachers get a chance to tell students about the mass killing of native tribes that took place in the years that followed.
For many Native Americans, Thanksgiving is a day of mourning (哀悼) and protest. Organised by the United American Indians of New England in1970, the fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving) was recognised as the NationalDay of Mourning for Native Americans.
While some Native Americans have chosen to reject the Thanksgiving holiday completely, many welcome the positive messages of the holiday without consideration of its origin. This is because the idea of giving thanks is central to Native Americans’ culture, and in this way, Thanksgiving is simply a chance to appreciate the good things of life, like family, community, and the riches of the land.
Steven Peters, a Wampanoag tribe spokesman, was asked about his views on Thanksgiving and the fact that most Native Americans still gather to eat turkey and give thanks.
“I think it’s great. My ancestors had four harvest festivals throughout the year. Gathering with family and giving thanks for all that we have is a good thing. But I ask that you take a moment on that day to remember what happened to my people and the history as it was and not what had been written in the history books.”
24. What can be learnt about the mainstream Thanksgiving story?
A. It is a faithful reflection of the history.
B. It mourns the suffering of the natives.
C. It represents only one side of the story.
D. It is about the real origin of Thanksgiving.
25. What does the underlined word “reject” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Refuse. B. Reflect. C. Promote. D. Celebrate.
26. Why do many Native Americans celebrate Thanksgiving?
A. They are misled by history books.
B. They have adapted to modern life.
C. The history has taught them to be grateful.
D. The idea of giving thanks fits their culture.
27 What is the best title for the text?
A. Storytelling: No More One-Sided Approach
B. Native Americans: Let the World Hear Our Voice
C. American History: Tears and Blood of the Natives
D. Thanksgiving: A Different Story to Native Americans
C 25. A 26. D 27. D

根据第一段“There are always two sides to a story. Unfortunately, when it comes to the history of Thanksgiving, generations of Americans have been taught a one-sided history in homes and schools.(故事总是有两面性的。不幸的是,当谈到感恩节的历史时,几代美国人在家庭和学校里被灌输了片面的历史)”以及第二段的“The mainstream cultural and historical story has been told by the white settlers (殖民者) who landed near Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts in 1620.
故选A。
根据第五段的“This is because the idea of giving thanks is central to Native Americans’ culture, and in this way, Thanksgiving is simply a chance to appreciate the good things of life, like family, community, and the riches of the land.(这是因为感恩的理念是美洲原住民文化的核心,因此,感恩节只是一个欣赏生活中美好事物的机会,比如家庭、社区和土地的财富)”可知,许多原住民庆祝感恩节是因为感恩的理念符合他们的文化传统。
根据第一段“There are always two sides to a story. Unfortunately, when it comes to the history of Thanksgiving, generations of Americans have been taught a one-sided history in homes and schools.(故事总是有两面性的。不幸的是,当谈到感恩节的历史时,几代美国人在家庭和学校里被灌输了片面的历史)”以及全文可知,全文探讨了感恩节对于原住民来说有着不同的含义,不仅仅是庆祝,也包含哀悼和抗议,以及他们如何从自己的文化角度看待这个节日。因此,最合适的标题是“感恩节:对原住民来说是一个不同的故事”。故选D。
C
As the Spring Festival approaches, discussions on “festive atmosphere fading away (逐渐消失)” have once again risen to the surface; yet a closer look reveals that young people are not throwing away traditions, but celebrating the festival in new and innovative ways.
On the lifestyle platform Xiaohongshu, users share couplets (对联) they have written. Instead of poetic wishes, the paired phrases could be numbers, emojis and plain slogans—with “Having money and knowledge; Losing weight and troubles” an often-seen refrain. These funny couplets have encouraged many people to continue the Spring Festival tradition of hanging couplets and sticking gate-god pictures. Calligraphy, woodcut pictures and traditional paintings also gain in popularity among people born from 1995 to 2010.
Another rebounding (复苏的) tradition is wearing hanfu, a traditional garment of the Han people, often worn during festivals. For people born after 1990s, one of the childhood Spring Festival customs was buying new clothes. Some still embrace this tradition as a way to ring in the newyear. Dang Hui from Luoyang, took her family for a hanfu family photoshoot. Instead of sitting indoors, they went to ancient-style parks and temple fairs.
Some young people also get to know better and become interested in Spring Festival “traditions”, such as visiting temple fairs, flower markets and watching lion dancing. Meng Fanis spending the holidays with her family in Guangzhou and they plan to watch lion dancing, which combines martial arts, folk music and dance. The movements, mimicking lions climbing mountains, jumping across rivers and playing with each other, carry auspicious meanings such as overcoming difficulties and making achievements.
Through these new ways to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, older generations pass on traditions while young people gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of the Spring Festival.
28. What can we learn about the young people from paragraph 2?
A. They are good at writing poetic slogans.
B. They dislike traditional Chinese art forms.
C. They are tired of the Spring Festival traditions.
D. They express their wishes through funny couplets.
29. Why does the author mention Dang Hui?
A. To recall childhood memories. B. To introduce hanfu photoshoot.
C. To give the details of an old custom. D. To show the comeback of a tradition.
30 What does the underlined word “auspicious” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Positive. B. Different. C. Confusing. D. Original.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. The decline of festive atmosphere. B. The meaning carried by Spring Festival.
C. The importance of passing on traditions. D. The renewal of Spring Festival traditions.
D 29. D 30. A 31. D
根据第二段的句子“Instead of poetic wishes, the paired phrases could be numbers, emojis and plain slogans—with “Having money and knowledge; Losing weight and troubles” an often-seen refrain.(配对的短语可能不是诗意的愿望,而是数字、表情符号和简单的口号——比如“有钱有学问;减肥和烦恼”是一个经常出现的重复。)”
根据第三段的句子“Another rebounding (复苏的) tradition is wearing hanfu, a traditional garment of the Han people, often worn during festivals.(另一个回归的传统是穿汉服,这是汉人的传统服装,经常在节日里穿。)”和“Dang Hui from Luoyang, took her family for a hanfu family photo shoot.(来自洛阳的Dang Hui带着她的家人拍了一张汉服全家福。)”
根据划线词后面的“such as overcoming difficulties and making achievements(比如克服困难,取得成就)”可知,舞狮承载着积极的意义。 故选A项。
根据全文内容,特别是第一段“As the Spring Festival approaches, discussions on “festive atmosphere fading away (逐渐消失)” have once again risen to the surface; yet a closer look reveals that young people are not throwing away traditions, but celebrating the festival in new and innovative ways.(随着春节的临近,关于“节日气氛渐淡”的讨论再次浮出水面;然而,仔细观察就会发现,年轻人并没有抛弃传统,而是以新的、创新的方式庆祝春节。)”和最后一段“Through these new ways to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, older generations pass on traditions while young people gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of the Spring Festival.(通过这些庆祝中国农历新年的新方式,老一辈人传承了传统,而年轻人对春节的意义有了更深的理解。)” 所以,D项“The renewal of Spring Festival traditions.(春节传统的复兴。)”
D
In 1996, someone ate a McDonald’s McChicken burger in Amsterdam. We don’t know the details, but something important happened. A nesting coot, a kind of bird, found the abandoned (丢弃的) wrapper and used it to line its nest (巢). That wrapper stayed there, leaving a mark on the local environment.
Biologist Auke-Florian Hiemstra studies how people affect bird nests in Amsterdam’s canals (运河). He said birds are also “recording” our throw-away society. When he looked at nests in the canals, he found all kinds of old packaging from the early 1990s to last year.
The Eurasian coot started coming to Amsterdam in the late 1980s. The packaging in the nests, like the 1996 McChicken wrapper, can show how long the species has been in the area. Hiemstra can tell the year of the packaging by looking at “best before” dates or logo designs. Nests have things like Mars bar packaging from the 1994 World Cup and, more recently, face masks from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Birds usually make nests from branches and plants. But in cities, there aren’t many natural things. So, birds use a lot of plastic. Hiemstra thinks if we make cities greener, birds might go back to making natural nests.
Hiemstra is upset about our “throw-away society”. Most plastic we make is still on Earth because it takes 20 to 500 years to decompose, and only 9% is recycled. We know single-use plastic is bad, but this research shows it’s already caused a lot of damage.
32. What does the discovery of the McChicken wrapper in the coot’s nest imply?
A. The coot is an intelligent bird species.
B. Amsterdam has a serious litter problem.
C. It reflects the throwaway nature of human society.
D. Birds have a preference for human-made materials.
33. How does Auke-Florian Hiemstra determine the age of the nests?
A By analyzing the size and structure of the nests.
B. By observing the behavior of the birds that build the nests.
C. By identifying the origin year of the packaging in the nests.
D. By studying the types of natural materials used in the nests.
34. What does the underlined word “decompose” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Break down. B. Build up. C. Hand out. D. Kick off.
35. What is Hiemstra’s attitude towards the current “throw-away society”?
A. Unconcerned. B. Unsatisfied. C. Supportive. D. Patient.
C 33. C 34. A 35. B
根据第二段“He said birds are also “recording” our throw-away society. When he looked at nests in the canals, he found all kinds of old packaging from the early 1990s to last year.(他说,鸟类也在“记录”我们的一次性社会。当他查看运河里的鸟巢时,发现了从20世纪90年代初到去年的各种旧包装。)” 可知,发现麦香鸡包装纸暗示了人类社会的一次性本质。故选C项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Hiemstra can tell the year of the packaging by looking at “best before” dates or logo designs. Nests have things like Mars bar packaging from the 1994 World Cup and, more recently, face masks from the COVID-19 pandemic.(希姆斯特拉可以通过查看 “最佳食用日期” 或标志设计来判断包装的年份。鸟巢里有诸如 1994 年世界杯期间的玛氏巧克力棒包装,以及更近一些的、新冠疫情期间的口罩之类的东西。)”可知,他通过确定巢中包装的年份来判断鸟巢的年代。故选C项。
【34题详解】
词义猜测题。根据第五段“Most plastic we make is still on Earth because it takes 20 to 500 years to decompose, and only 9% is recycled.(我们制造的大多数塑料仍然存在于地球上,因为它们需要20到500年才能decompose,而且只有9%被回收利用。)” 故选A项。
根据第五段“Hiemstra is upset about our “throw-away society”. (希姆斯特拉对我们的 “一次性社会” 感到不安。)”和“We know single-use plastic is bad, but this research shows it’s already caused a lot of damage.(我们知道一次性塑料是不好的,但这项研究表明它已经造成了很大的损害。)”

根据前文“Paper clips (回形针) are more than just office essentials for holding papers together. Their small size, strong metal wire, and bendable nature open up a world of creative and practical uses. (回形针不仅仅是办公室里用来夹文件的必需品。他们的小尺寸,坚固的金属线,和可弯曲的性质开辟了一个创造性和实用的世界。)”提到回形针除了夹纸还有很多创意和实用用途,G 选项“Here are some unexpected ways to make the most of these humble tools. ( 以下是一些充分利用这些不起眼工具的意想不到的方法。)”起到引出下文具体用途的作用,衔接自然。故选G项。
【37题详解】
该段句首“Firstly, paper clips can act as handy temporary tools. (首先,回形针可以作为方便的临时工具。)”可知本段讲回形针作为临时工具的用途,以及前文“When your skirt hem (裙摆) is coming loose, they can be used to hold it in place for a short time, acting like pins.( 当你的裙子下摆松动时,它们可以用来固定它一段时间,就像大头针一样。)”提到固定裙摆、按复位键,后文“a paper clip passed through the small buttonhole can replace it. (用回形针穿过小扣眼即可更换。)”说穿过扣眼代替它,B选项“If the pull on your zipper (拉链) is missing. (如果拉链的拉头掉了。)”符合语境,说明回形针可代替拉链拉头,与前后文的工具用途呼应。故选B项。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Secondly, paper clips offer endless possibilities for hand-making. You can change them into unique key rings. (其次,回形针为手工制作提供了无限的可能性。你可以把它们变成独一无二的钥匙扣。)”此段围绕回形针的手工制作展开,提到可以做成独特的钥匙扣,C 选项“Just wrap a paper clip around a marker to form the base. (只需把回形针绕在记号笔上形成底座。)”是制作钥匙扣的具体步骤,衔接合理。故选C项。
【39题详解】
根据前文“Wrapping the tape edge around a paper clip creates an easy-to-find tab (标签). ( 将胶带的边缘缠绕在回形针上,可以创建一个易于查找的标签。)”说用回形针固定胶带末端形成易找的标签,F选项“This not only makes the tape end easy to locate but also simple to pull. (这不仅让胶带末端容易找到,还便于拉开。)”进一步说明这种做法的好处,符合逻辑。故选F项。
【40题详解】
由该空位于最后一段首句可知,为总结全文,D 选项“Paper clips have countless uses in spite of looking ordinary. (回形针虽然看起来普通,但有无数用途。)”概括了全文主旨,且与后文“Next time you come across a paper clip, think beyond its traditional function and explore these creative and practical applications. ( 次你遇到回形针时,想想它的传统功能之外,探索一下这些创造性的和实际的应用。)”鼓励探索其更多用途相呼应。故选D项。

第二节 (满分 25 分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sumiko worked with her mother in their vegetable garden every day. They made their living by selling the produce from their garden at the market. Each day, Sumiko carefully watered plants and pretended they were beautiful chrysanthemums (菊花), like Mrs. Higaki’s prize flowers. In her heart, she wanted to grow chrysanthemums.
“Foolish girl!” her mother lectured. “Flowers can’t be eaten!”
“But Mum, people buy flowers.”
“City people. No one in our poor village wastes money.”
Sumiko knew her mother was right. The only person in the village who made money selling flowers was Mrs. Higaki. Every year she won first prize at the Kyoto Chrysanthemum Festival. Many people whispered that Mrs. Higaki used magic to grow her chrysanthemums. How else could she win first prize twenty years in a row?
Sumiko admired Mrs. Higaki. If she could sell flowers like Mrs. Higaki, she would be able to buy things for her mother. But chrysanthemums were expensive to start, and Sumiko could only dream about growing them.
One day, Sumiko visited Mrs. Higaki’s garden.“Mrs. Higaki, I wish I could grow beautiful chrysanthemums and win a prize like you,” said Sumiko.
“You! Win a prize growing flowers?”Mrs. Higaki laughed. “Do you know what’s required to grow such flowers? The secret to growing them has been passed down to me from past generations of my family. And you-a child-believe you can compete against me? Stick to vegetables, child. Leave flowers to those who know the secret of flowers.”
Mrs. Higaki returned to her gardening, ignoring the sad look on Sumiko’s face. Then she pulled up a plant.
“What’s that?” Sumiko asked.
“A plant in poor condition -a waste of my time,”Mrs. Higaki said, throwing the plant into the field beside the garden.

Sumiko got up early on the morning of the Kyoto Chrysanthemum Festival.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Sumiko smiled before she had an idea. She asked for Higaki’s permission to have that plant, dashed back home, and grew it behind the cottage. She leaned close to the hanging leaves and whispered, “Grow, little flower. You don’t have to win a prize. Just grow.” She took care of her plant every morning and evening.“You are my beautiful plant,”Amy would sing softly, as she weeded and watered it.“Someday, you will bloom prettier than any flower at the festival.”Each time Amy visited her little plant, it looked greener and taller. Time seemed to fly by as the festival neared.
Sumiko got up early on the morning of the Kyoto Chrysanthemum Festival. When Amy visited her plant again, she screamed with delight. Her plant was in full bloom! It was the most beautiful rainbow chrysanthemums Amy had ever seen. Mrs. Higaki, who was passing by with flowers for the festival, stopped to see what the excitement was. Her mouth dropped open seeing the brilliant chrysanthemums. She never thought that the weak plant she threw away should have grown to be so remarkable. “It’s plain to see you will win a prize this year.” Mrs. Higaki sighed. And off they went to the festival. Finally, Amy's chrysanthemums won first prize as Mrs. Higaki had predicted.

27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Storytelling: No More One-Sided Approach
B. Native Americans: Let the World Hear Our Voice
C. American History: Tears and Blood of the Natives
D. Thanksgiving: A Different Story to Native Americans

30. What does the underlined word “auspicious” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Positive. B. Different. C. Confusing. D. Original.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. The decline of festive atmosphere. B. The meaning carried by Spring Festival.
C. The importance of passing on traditions. D. The renewal of Spring Festival traditions.

Most plastic we make is still on Earth because it takes 20 to 500 years to decompose and only 9% is recycled.
A. By analyzing the size and structure of the nests.
C. Supportive. D. Patient.
