A new study found that 52 of the most common species (物种) of birds in the USA have shrunk in size in the past 38 years. Scientists say this is because of climate change.
This shrinking in size follows a rule called Bergmann’s rule. The rule says that animals in cooler areas are usually larger than those in warmer areas. Larger animals are able to keep warmer. That is the reason why animals in cold areas are larger.
As global warming affects (影响) the planet, animals now have to deal with rising temperatures. Some of them shrink in size. Scientists studied over 70,000 species of birds. They discovered that some birds in North America were shrinking in size. Studies on deer, insects and fish also show similar facts.
What does this mean for these species? Global warming is happening faster than ever before. So, animals may not be able to change fast enough. And when species shrink, other things get different. When an animal’s body shrinks, it may not be able to give birth to as many young as before—this may affect the size of a species’ population.
It is possible that scientists haven’t yet completely understood how changes in size may affect the ability of animals to be alive. This shows the bigger problem with climate change—we aren’t always able to predict what will happen when the earth’s temperatures keep rising. And that is the real danger.
31. The underlined word “shrunk” in this passage means ________.
A. become smaller B. disappeared C. increased D. grown
32. Why are animals in cold areas larger than those in warmer areas?
A. Because they eat more food.
B. Because they sleep longer.
C. Because they can keep warmer.
D. Because they need to be faster.
33. If a species’ body gets smaller, ________.
A the species’ population may become smaller
B. the species may change faster quickly
C. the earth may become warmer
D. there will be more pollution on the earth
34. The writer thinks the biggest problem with global warming is ________.
A. the earth’s temperatures keep rising
B. humans can’t predict what will happen
C. there will be fewer species on the earth
D. there will be more pollution on the earth

Technology Changes Our Lives
Technology is developing fast in China. I think life has become much more convenient because of it.
Among all the changes, shopping is not the same as before. In the past, people went to markets or stores to buy things. But now, many people like to shop online. For example, my mother often buys clothes and books online. She says it is easy and can save time.
I think this change is very good. However, we must learn to plan well and protect our personal information when shopping online.

Technology Changes Our Lives
Technology is developing fast. I think many things in life have become easier and quicker to do.
Among all the changes, the way we study is not the same as before. In the past, we mainly used textbooks and went to libraries. But now, we can find many study materials on the Internet. For example, if I want to practice English listening, I can watch English teaching videos online or use learning apps.
I think we should use the Internet properly and not spend too much time on phones or computers.
