But none of them were ready to come. I started walking in a hurry. A moment later, I saw a rickshaw driver and stopped him immediately. When I asked him if he could drop me to my destination, he quickly agreed. I gave him the exact location and that’s when our conversation started, mostly one way conversation. “I am a BSC graduate and completed my graduation in the year 1975,” he started conversing with me, “By profession, I was a teacher in a Govt. School for many years. During those days, I struggled a lot as I belonged to a very poor family, but that did not stop me from growing. Today I am retired and I am driving an auto not just for money but to keep myself going and to remain fit so that I don’t feel the burden of being old and doing nothing. I made my kids study and taught them the importance of education which has helped them choose their fields and go their way. My son is an IAS officer and my daughter is a professor in a reputed college.” As I kept listening to him, he continued saying, “My major focus was to teach kids and young students how important education is, to become a good human being, to respect everyone, to help others and to do good causes and all this will come only by education.” All that he said really motivated me. Very next minute my destination came and I got down, gave him money and said, “Thank you.” During the 12-minute ride, I witnessed and came to know the 63-year-old man, who is a living example of how one can grow and reach their goals if one is clear with their dreams. 7. What can we know from the first paragraph? A. The driver offered to give a lift. B. The author was new to the destination. C. The driver started with a funny conversation. D. The author was anxious to attend an interview. 8. Why does the old man keep driving? A. To stay active and healthy. B. To aid people in great need. C. To improve his spoken English. D. To repay his family and society. 9. How did the author feel after the ride? A. Shocked. B. Excited. C. Inspired. D. Amused. 10. What did the author learn from the driver? A. A good beginning is half done. B. Failure is the mother of success. C. Experience helps to achieve goals. D. A clear vision of dreams fuels growth. C The more fully occupied the students are in purposeful learning activity, the more likely they are to cooperate and work well. Boredom is a key cause of discipline problems. A major principle in dealing with problems of classroom discipline is to prevent them from arising, in the first place. Keeping the momentum going during a lesson is one key way to do this. First, you need a fully-planned lesson, a complete program of activities and tasks for the entire period, so that you know at any point what’s coming next. A gap while you consider what to do next is likely to produce discipline problems: not only because students get bored, but also because of the uneasy feeling that there is no clear plan, or that the teacher is uncertain and lacking confidence. I usually glance through my lesson notes just before I start so I can remember most of what I’d planned to do by heart and don’t need to pause to refer to them very much during the lesson itself. Second, stop longer activities as soon as you see signs that the momentum is lost and that students are losing interest and patience — even if it means postponing the ending to another lesson. This is particularly true of group work, but applies, in principle, to teacher-led or individual activities as well. It’s better to stop while students are still interested than to insist on completing something when most of them are tired of it and want to move on to something else. Third, prepare a reserve activity, so that if something takes less time than you thought it would (or you need to pause a longer activity earlier than you’d planned, as suggested above), you can continue seamlessly to something else without showing that you were left with an unplanned gap. 11. What does the underlined word “momentum” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Strict rules. B. Students’ duty. C. Students’ involvement. D. Daily behaviors. 12. What does the author probably do? A. A theory founder. B. A discipline advisor. C. A skillful educator. D. A textbook publisher. 13. Why should teachers get reserve activities ready? A. To get rid of boredom. B. To fill unexpected gaps. C. To test students’ patience. D. To reduce preparation time. 14. How is the passage mainly developed? A. By giving examples. B. By listing methods. C. By describing scenes. D. By analyzing causes. D High-intensity yoga for less than 30 minutes, twice a week, may be the best workout routine for catching high-quality shut-eye, a new study shows. While exercise in general is known to improve sleep, a meta-analysis (元分析) published on July 11 in Sleep and Biological Rhythms presents a broad comparison of exercise routines and their influence on sleep quality. By indirectly comparing 30 trials from about a dozen countries, researchers at Harbin Sport University in China ranked how well different exercise methods influence sleep. Yoga won out, followed by walking, resistance training and aerobic exercise. The team argues that yoga improves sleep because the controlled breathing exercises associated with it activate the parasympathetic nervous system (副交感神经系统), lowering heart rate and promoting relaxation. The most surprising finding is that shorter sessions, less than 30 minutes, are better, even though previous studies found that longer sessions — up to 60 minutes — help with hitting the pillow. The researchers guess that longer sessions might increase levels of the “stress hormone” cortisol (皮质醇), keeping people wide awake. Assessing how widely applicable high-intensity yoga is to everyone is difficult because the meta-analysis compared trials involving different age-groups. “Some kinds of interventions may work well for someone who is in their 30s but be more difficult for someone who is in their 80s,” says Arsenio Páez, a sleep researcher at Concordia University in Montreal. To confidently determine which exercise plan is best for sleep, scientists will need to build on this meta-analysis by directly contrasting exercise plans. This could involve a controlled trial where participants are carefully chosen based on factors such as sex and fitness history. For now, experts recommend that people exercise according to their preference and practicality, as exercise seems to benefit sleep and health in general. Even if yoga isn’t an option, walking or other light exercise is far better than doing nothing for both sleep and overall health. 15. How does yoga help improve sleep? A. By raising cortisol levels. B. By changing the training style. C. By increasing workout frequency. D. By making a certain nervous system active. 16. What will scientists do to further the study? A. Turn to another meta-analysis. B. Select participants randomly. C. Confirm the effect of sex on fitness. D. Compare exercise plans directly. 17. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph? A. To offer advice on exercise. B. To summarize sport types. C. To stress the benefits of being healthy. D. To share workout experience. 18. What may be the best title for the passage? A. Yoga Relieves Back Pain B. Yoga Boosts Sleep Quality C. Yoga Enhances Well-being D. Yoga Regulates Daily Routines 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Many people experience anxiety before an exam. ____19____. Four-year-old Chen Le, tired from the trip, curled up on her grandfather’s van (小货车) seat and fell asleep. Her grandparents were busily working in the nearby fields, glancing back at the van now and then. They planned to finish quickly and buy her favorite candy on the way home. At around 1:30 PM, Grandma wiped her sweat and walked to the van to wake Chen Le for water. But when she opened the door, the seat was empty. “Chen Le! Chen Le!” she shouted tremblingly. Grandpa dropped his hoe (锄头) and joined the search, running through fields and bushes until their throats were hoarse, but no response came. Desperate, they called the police at 2:16 PM. Soon, police, firefighters and professional rescuers arrived. Word spread, and villagers gathered with flashlights and tools to help. They split into groups, and the quiet hills filled with calls and footsteps. As dusk fell, the temperature dropped sharply, but the searchers kept going day and night. Flashlights lit up the hills like stars. Chen Le’s parents, who worked in Yunnan, rushed over after getting the news, waiting anxiously at the hill foot with red eyes. Rescuers comforted them and expanded the search to nearby villages. On the morning of October 17, four rescuers from neighboring Fuxing Village searched a valley between Yangshan Ridge and Xinghua Village. They heard a faint cry, called softly, and got a tiny “Mm...” Rushing down, they found Chen Le huddled (卷缩) in dead leaves — conscious but trembling, with slight face scratches. “Found her!” they yelled via walkie-talkie. Cheers broke out. The family hugged tightly, tears of joy flowing. Chen Le was carried to an ambulance. Seeing her weak daughter, the couple’s hearts broke. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a quick check at the hospital, the doctor gave good news. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As Chen Le got better, the family tried to return the kindness they received. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高2024级高二年级上学期质量监测试题 英 语 本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 Paragraph 1 After a quick check at the hospital, the doctor gave good news. Apart from mild dehydration and a few scratches, Chen Le was perfectly fine. Color returned to her cheeks after a bottle of glucose and a bowl of warm porridge. Holding her tiny hand, the parents thanked the rescuers again and again, their voices trembling harder than their legs. Grandma knelt down, praying to the hills that had once terrified her, while Grandpa promised to plant a forest of fruit trees around the village so that no child would ever be lost without food or shelter. Paragraph 2 As Chen Le got better, the family tried to return the kindness they received. They donated new flashlights and walkie-talkies to the volunteer fire brigade, and turned their own van into a mobile supply station filled with bottled water and first-aid kits during future searches. Every October 17 now marks “Village Love Day”, when the family treats all rescuers to a hearty meal, and Chen Le hands out homemade paper stars to everyone who helped bring her home. The hills once echoed with anxious cries; today they echo with laughter, gratitude and the promise that no cry for help will ever go unanswered again. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
