This was just under 4 hours and a perfect amount of time for us to relax and see some beautiful nature and glaciers. Parking and check in at Portage station were easy. The train was good and clean, snacks were of great variety for a train, and crew was friendly. We had a fantastic afternoon! ChrisK20 Anchorage, AK·13 contributions ●●●●○ Aug 2024·Couples We took Denali Star from Anchorage to Fairbanks and back. The seats were comfortable enough with plenty of legroom. The bread pudding on the breakfast menu was the best thing served all day. David A Salisbury, MA·3 contributions ●●●○○ Aug 2024·Singles Great views from train. Train was very uncomfortable. No charging ports for phones and pads! It rained cats and dogs the entire time in Seward. Bad luck. I am disabled and had to stand because people that weren’t disabled took the disability seat. B A big storm called Cyclone Ditwah hit Sri Lanka, which has caused great damage in Sri Lanka, resulting in hundreds of deaths and leaving many homeless. However, something good happened too. People from different backgrounds are coming together to rescue those in need. Some, like actor GK Reginold, are using fishing boats to deliver basic supplies to communities. A group of activists, previously took part in political protests, have turned their organizational skills into establishing community kitchens to provide meals for the affected people in the storm. Social media is also playing an important role in bringing social efforts together. Volunteers have created online databases to match donations with those in need. This digital method is helping to better aid distribution (分配) and make sure supplies get to the right places. This new method has greatly promoted the effectiveness of the rescue work, showing the possibility of technology in time of disaster. Despite the challenges, the spirit of unity among Sri Lankans is evident. As one volunteer observed, the concern and kindheartedness for people’s suffering are proving to be greater than the destruction caused by the disaster. 24. What does the author mean by “However, something good happened too”? A. The cyclone was less serious than first reported. B. The storm brought people together in a positive way. C. The government finally improved its alarming system. D. International aid arrived earlier than expected. 25. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning online databases? A. To cheer people up. B. To praise IT companies from other countries. C. To show how the tech helps. D. To show social media can be trusted. 26. What is the key to the recovery of Sri Lanka? A. Fast help sharing. B. New technology. C. Strict government control. D. Volunteerism of its people. 27. How does the author find the spirit shown by Sri Lankans? A. Weak and poorly organized. B. Surprising but short-lived. C. Inspiring and powerful. D. Nice yet unnecessary. C The Louvre Museum in Paris, known as the world’s largest art museum, recently faced a water leak (泄露) that damaged hundreds of books. The event fell on November 26, affecting between 300 and 400 books dating back to the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The leak was due to an accidental opening of a valve (阀) in an old plumbing system that is no longer in use. This system is scheduled for replacement during improvement works starting in September 2026. The damaged books, related to Egyptology and scientific documentation, are regularly referred to by visitors but are not unique copies. While this incident is concerning, it’s not the only recent problem at the Louvre. In October, the museum experienced a significant theft where valuable jewelry was stolen. These issues have stressed the need for improved security and basic structures at the historic museum. To address these challenges, the Louvre plans to increase ticket prices for non-European visitors starting in 2026. Starting January 14, 2026, ticket prices will see a 45% increase, aimed at bringing an additional 15-20 million euros every year. These funds are for much-needed modernization and upgrades to the museum’s facilities, as the museum attempts to balance its role as a global cultural landmark. 28. What can we know about the Louvre from the first paragraph? A. It is the world’s largest museum. B. It has a vast collection of books. C. There was a burst water pipe. D. A water leak damaged its books. 29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The cause of the event. B. The introduction of the event. C. The solution to the event. D. The effect of the event. 30. How does the Louvre plan to raise funds? A. By selling some artworks. B. By increasing certain ticket prices. C. By turning to the government. D. By starting a global crowdfunding. 31. What does the incidents suggest about the museum? A. It has trouble keeping its collections safe. B. It has too many foreign visitors. C. It is planning to close for extensive repair. D. Its security training needs to be strengthened. D About one-third of adults globally suffer from loneliness, which can cause problems like depression and anxiety. A new generation of AI apps called AI companions is designed to simulate (模拟) natural conversations and keep people company. AI assistants like ChatGPT can do those things to some extent, but AI companions are designed to respond in a sympathetic, realistic way when you share your problems. Most of these programs are still at a relatively early stage, and are just building an audience. But do AI companions really work? Our studies show that the best of these apps really do work. We started by analyzing 50,000 app reviews of five popular AI companions, looking for how often the reviews mentioned loneliness, as well as their ratings for the apps. We then looked at reviews for ChatGPT to make a comparison. Our findings show that only 4% of ChatGPT reviews mentioned loneliness. But the companion apps turned in a much better showing as high as 20%. The more mentions, the more people might use the apps to help with loneliness. They also received higher ratings. The implication is clear: AI companions can help people to reduce loneliness. We then divided about 1,100 online participants into two groups. One group interacted daily with an AI companion; the other didn’t. Those who used the AI companion reported 14% points less loneliness on average. They said they felt heard and the AI companion offered emotional responses during their talks. There is still the question of whether AI companions will be good for society. Some people fear, reasonably, that companions will turn people into shut-ins who avoid human contact. But any debate about the long-term impact of companions should account for their potential for reducing loneliness. Because we aren’t doing well as a society on loneliness, we should at least keep an open mind on any tool that helps at all. 32. What does the underlined phrase “building an audience” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Attracting customers. B. Selecting assistants. C. Employing programmers. D. Seeking sponsors. 33. What do we know about the new AI companion apps? A. They may identify health problems. B. They function as well as AI assistants. C. They can provide emotional support. D. They have been completely accepted. 34. How did the researchers carry out the first part of the study? A. By doing online surveys. B. By conducting experiments. C. By interviewing participants. D. By analyzing data. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. AI Companions: Ideal Tools for Society B. AI Companions: Help With Loneliness Worth Trying C. Loneliness: A Global Crisis Needing Solutions D. ChatGPT vs. AI Companions: A Comparison 第二节:(共5小题,每小题2.5分,共12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You want to start doing exercise? Growing up in the same neighborhood of their small town, they had shared countless adventures. Their love for sports, especially football, brought them even closer together. Each summer, when school was out, they looked forward to spending their days on the green fields of the local park, having spirited matches and creating lasting memories. One hot, sunny day, they wore their favorite football shirts and made their way to the park. As they arrived at the park, a wave of excitement washed over them. The green grass beckoned (召唤), inviting them to enjoy their favorite game. The sound of their laughter filled the air as they kicked the ball around. After a while, Ted, feeling thirsty, suggested they take a break, so the boys sat on the grass and drank cold drinks. “I have a good idea,” said Alfie. “We can have a penalty shootout (点球大战) to add some excitement to our playtime. Austin, you go in goal, and Leo can take the first shot (射球).” “No problem,” replied Austin. “I’m a really good goalkeeper.” The boys quickly finished their drinks and jumped up ready to take their places. Behind the goal stood the clubhouse, where players would get changed before their matches. Leo carefully placed the ball on the penalty spot (点) and took two steps back, with his eyes fixed on the goal. After Ted blew the whistle, Leo kicked the ball as hard as he could. However, the ball went just wide of the goalpost and hit the clubhouse window, causing the glass to break into pieces. “Oh, no,” said Leo, “that wasn’t meant to happen. What shall we do now?” “I think we should run away and pretend it wasn’t us.” said Alfie. “I agree,” said Austin, but Ted thought differently. 注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 “I think we have to be honest and tell the truth,” said Ted. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning Ted received a call from the park caretaker. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。We really must go to the town to buy that medicine right now. Good morning, boys and girls. In the past years, our school held many competitions successfully, like singing competition, reading competition, dancing competition. Etta, I do know most of the students want to have a reading competition as was held last year, but now we'll have something funnier. It's the pets competition. Well, in fact, IT aims at letting students know the importance of loving animals. Nowadays, too many people can't treat animals as well. Some people do not think carefully before getting a pet. You will not be disappointed because our teachers will not be using dolf theory to put a love of animals in us. Instead, we can all learn something from a relaxing environment. The competition will be based on the dog's ability. Unfortunately, this competition is not open to our pets. This year, our school has selected five dogs for this competition. That means we can just sit back and enjoy. So please come to join this event and keep your diary during the activity. How can you afford to miss such an educational and funny event of the year? In the past years, our school held many competitions successfully, like Singing Competition, Reading Competition, Dancing Competition, etc. I do know most of the students want to have a reading competition as was held last year, but now we’ll have something funnier. It’s the Pets’ Competition. Well, in fact, it aims at letting students know the importance of loving animals. Nowadays, too many people can’t treat animals well. Some people do not think carefully before getting a pet. You will not be disappointed because our teachers will not be using dull theory to put a love of animals in us. Instead, we can all learn something from a relaxing environment. The competition will be based on the dogs’ ability. Unfortunately, this competition is not open to our pets this year. However, something good happened too. People from different backgrounds are coming together to rescue those in need. Some, like actor GK Reginold, are using fishing boats to deliver basic supplies to communities. 30. But the companion apps turned in a much better showing, as high as 20%. ChatGPT vs. AI Companions: A Comparison 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. D 35. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: “I think we have to be honest and tell the truth,” said Ted. His words fell silent as the boys stared at the broken glass. Though Alfie and Austin looked worried, they finally nodded in agreement. With heavy hearts, they walked towards the clubhouse and knocked on the door. Mr. Johnson, the manager, opened it with a serious face. After hearing their honest words, his face softened. “Thank you for telling me,” he said. “It takes courage to admit mistakes. You’ll need to pay for the repair, but I appreciate your honesty.” As they left, Ted felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. The next morning Ted received a call from the park caretaker. It was Mr. Johnson, asking them to meet him at the park. Nervous but determined, Ted gathered his friends. Instead of scolding them, Mr. Johnson offered a deal: they could help maintain the park grounds for two weekends to cover the repair costs. The boys accepted happily. Through this experience, they learned that taking responsibility wasn’t so terrible. Their friendship grew stronger, and they discovered that honesty truly was the best policy. 参考范文2:(高分版) “I think we have to be honest and tell the truth “said Ted.” Running away can’t solve the problem — we’ll feel guilty forever. The caretaker works hard to keep the park nice for everyone, and we should take responsibility for our mistake.” Alfie and Austin looked at each other, then nodded slowly. Together, they walked to the clubhouse and found the caretaker, a kind-faced man named Mr. Carter. Ted explained what happened nervously, while Leo apologized repeatedly. “We’ re really sorry, sir. We can help fix the window or pay for the damage,” Ted added. Mr. Carter smiled gently: “I’m proud of you boys for being honest. Let me check the window first.” The next morning Ted received a call from the park caretaker.“ Hi Ted, this is Mr. Carter. The window’s been fixed, and you don’t need to pay — I just wanted to thank you for your honesty. Many kids would run away, but you chose to do the right thing. How about you and your friends come help clean the clubhouse this weekend? It’ll be a great way to make up for it.” Ted was overjoyed and told his friends the news. They spent the weekend helping Mr. Carter, and their friendship grew stronger. From then on, they learned that honesty isn’t just the right choice — it also brings unexpected kindness and respect. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解决:solve/work out ②解释:explain/account for ③发生:happen/take place ④选择:choose/select 情绪类 ①以……为骄傲:be proud of/take pride in ②感谢:thank/appreciate 【点睛】[高分句型1] Ted explained what happened nervously, while Leo apologized repeatedly.(运用了what引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] They spent the weekend helping Mr. Carter, and their friendship grew stronger.(运用了动名词短语作宾语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
